Get to the dr. Don't do like I did and wait 2 weeks to go. I have white pus in my throat, as well as an ear ache. I have an ear infection and a throat infection! She gave me a steroid shot and penicillin. Good luck!
I'm sorry for this, but I so infrequently get sick that I'm really not sure. I've been sick since last Thursday, so 5 days now. It started off with waking up with a sore throat. Progressively I've gotten more congested, developed a cough that is mostly unproductive, and now have a lot of sinus pressure and both my ears are plugged and I feel pain/pressure in my ears that is radiating into my jaw. I was taking Mucinex for 2 days, didn't do much to help me, then today switched to Alka Seltzer Plus Cold, which helped with the nasal congestion and temporarily helped with the sore throat. My tonsils are mega swollen, and it even looks like the back of my throat is swollen, and I have a few spots of white in there, which I remember could mean I have strep (?). No fever. I just need your mama opinions, because I can't afford to throw away the $35 copay if the doctor is just gonna tell me I have a bad cold and to ride it out. What do you think? And in the meantime, what can I do to relieve this pressure in my ears? I'm miserable :(
Thank you all for your input. I went in this morning, and I have a definite ear infection, probable sinus infection, and maybe strep throat, but the rapid test came back negative so we're waiting on the results of the throat culture. In the meantime I'm now on an antibiotic that will hopefully knock out all three. Now I'm just crossing my fingers that my son doesn't come down with it, he's already started with the runny nose and cough :(

Isn't the peace of mind of going to the doctor better than not knowing if you're infecting everyone around you? Go.
A decongestant will help unclog your ears and nose... but keep in mind all of these over the counter remedies might add up to more than your co-pay! If you have spots you need a strep culture to determine that is what is wrong or not.... I just got over a loong cold, took almost 2 weeks to go away but no sore throat with spots.
Also longer than 3 days using cold medicine might actually give you rebound effect and make you feel worse. Call your md :) GL
Yeah, go to the doc. I'll bet you need antibiotics. If you have white spots on your tonsils, you don't have a cold.
Make sure you get a strep test - you don't want to play around with that! Incidentally, my kids had strep with no fever, so don't let that fool you. It is possible to have strep with no fever.

You have permission to call your doctor. You know how a cold progresses - and you know this isn't one.
You do not need to have a fever to have strep or any other bacterial infection. I just got over a two week fiasco of a cold turning into a sinus infection/laryngitis. With a common cold symptoms go AWAY in 5-7 days. If after 5 days it gets worse, or you don't seem to have any improvement, and you still have a sore throat, I would go get checked out. Also ask for a strep test. If it were me, I would call the nurse first and give her my symptoms, and see what she says.
Well, after 5 days, you should probably at least call the doctor's office.
I've been sick for two weeks with a terrible cold. It started with a sore throat and if snot were gold...I'd be set for life.
Everything from my nose and that I cough up is clear so that's a good sign. Because my nose is stuffed up, so are my ears.
I was just on antibiotics a month ago so I'm in no hurry to have more so soon, but you might want to get checked out. Fever usually signifies infection, but not always.
Like I said, I've been fighting this for two weeks and it's just a raging cold.
A cold can take 10 days to run it's course.
Gargle with warm salt water.
Rub Vicks on your chest and on your feet.
If you develop a fever or get worse, call the doctor, for sure.
Best wishes.
I would just go and get checked out. A friend of mine had similar symptoms as you for almost 2 weeks, she just couldn't shake it. The doctor just put her on antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon!!
Go to doctor! It sounds like you may have strep, based on the white patches. That is very contagious if left untreated. In any case, it sounds like some form of tonsillitis and/or sinus infection and antibiotics should help you get better soon.
I know, I hate going to the doctor when I don't feel well. But I sure am glad I did every time I went! My kids depend on my good health!
Get well soon, S.!
Yes, I would think so.
I was like that last year twice--Strep both times!! I'd go to the doctor!
Hope you feel better!
Sounds like strep, which my daughter has and the Dr. said it is going around.
poor thing. personally this is not something i would go to a dr. for, wouldn't even enter my mind. maybe if it was my child, but not myself. stock up on dayquil and nyquil and ride it out...the generic is not too expensive. you are probably on the back end of it at this point, then you'd just be annoyed when you feel better tomorrow, that you spend that $ on the dr. hang in there...
Local Honey, Hot Tea, Hot Shower, Rest, and Tylenol for pain. If you dont have a fever then it is likely just a bad cold.
Sounds like strep to me. I say go see your doc!
I too am frequently sick and normally my doctor says that if cold like symptoms do not improve or go away within a week to come in. In the meantime try laying down with a warm compress against your ear (lay with your ear down). Sometimes this helps to relieve the pressure.
Sounds like strep throat--go to the doctor and insist on a swab test. Feel better!!

That sounds very similar to what my son had a couple of weeks ago, and it lasted at least 9-10 days. We didn't go to the doctor becase he seemed to improve a tiny bit each day - it was just slow going.
I don't think it would be wrong to go - you might want to get a strep test.
There is something really nasty going around I've noticed.
Listen to your gut. Go to the doctor when in doubt. If you should get strep and it goes untreated, you can develop rheumatic fever, a very serious and lifelong condition. It is not worth taking the chance! Here is more info:

Hope you feel better soon!
