Alternative Treatment for Baby's Earaches

My 15 month old grandson has had 4 earaches since July. His pediatrician prescribes antibiotics, but I am concerned that he will build up immunity and that this might be dangerous. Do any of you know an alternative treatment that would help the earaches, or better yet, the stave off the cold or allergy that precipitates them? Thanks.

i agree with janet...garlic is wonderful! we take a clove, peal it, smash it lightly to release juices and put in glass bowl w/ olive oil. set bowl over pot of simmering water to let garlic infuse. cool to room temp or warmer (i test on inside wrist) and drop a few drops in ear.
2 more things...
over 80% ear infections are viral so antibiotics won't help. a great book is Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child.
good luck.

Yes, I highly recommend chiropractic treatment. It has been extremely effective for both of my daughters, and I have referred a number of moms with this concern. Of course I recommend my chriproctor, Dr. Melissa Shelton ###-###-####, as she is excellent with infants and young children. She is in Plano at Preston and Hedgecoxe, just south of 121.

If her office is not convenient for you, please inquire about the doctors comfort level with children, because not all chirpractors adjust young children.

Good Luck!

Hey well my 4 year-old daughter got an earache not to long ago and my friend had some ear candles that she had bought from gnc for 8.99 for 2 and she placed it in her ear and lighted it up and let it burn about half way down she cryed but it did not hurt cause i let her do me and it was crazy cause she cut it open and it had a yellow powder in side and she said it was the infection it also had some earwax it sounds weired but it worked we also put eardrops and gave her some tylenol and she feel right to sleep since she had cryed during it. But she got to sleep since the night before she was up crying. After she woke up she didn't complain about her ear it's just a different way instead of burning newspaper. It helped her so hopefully it will help.

I agree with the ear candles, i use them they are great i get them from sunharvest in corpus christi, they sell them for 1.99 each. Make sure to get the "yellow" looking ones, the difference is the "yellow" ones have beeswax on them, so they burn much slower, which gives it more time to "pull out" the infection. It does not hurt at all, you do hear "sizzleing" noises at times, but from what i understand that is from it pulling out the infection, and if you open it up when you are done, you will find some yellow powder looking stuff, that is what came out of the ear. They are wonderful, and work really well, my mom even used to use them on me when i was little, get ride of an infection alot sooner than drops and antibotics the dr gives you. I also agree with you on the antibiotics, they do become immune to them if given too much, which can turn very dangerous for them if they may need it later, i try not to give it to my kiddos unless it is neccisarry. (sorry if i mispelled anything not really good at that) I hope this helps you, and your granddaughter!!

Hi P....First of all, Grandma's are qualified for most things!!! :o) Secondly, I use some great products that are the best of science and nature...cleaning products, personal products, vitamins, pharma items, etc....They are safer and better for me and my family. They are great at killing germs, allergens and bacteria. My family has been healthier: not sick as often, my allergies have gotten SO much better. I'd love to tell you more if you're interested. I have stories to share: helped my niece with her staph infection, helped with my allergies, helps with exzema and asthma...I could go on and on! :o)

You can contact me if you wish!

Good luck either way!!!

Hi!! I would recomend using garlic oil. You can buy it with a dropper over the counter. It is very good for prevention, it also sooths a hurting ear. I started using it after my oldest had to get tubes in his ears, my middle chils has only had 1 ear infection, and my youngest (18mo)has never had one yet!!

All good advice so far! After 3 back-to-back ear infections and 2 rounds of antibiotics for my 2 year old, I took him off dairy products and took him to a chiropractor. I have since allowed him cheese, yogurt etc. but not regular milk. Since our first visit to the chiropractor, we haven't had another infection over a year later.

We use garlic oil drops (it actually says 'ear drops' on the bottle; we put two drops in each ear. We also use peppermint oil to massage on the outside of the ear near the jaw joint and rub down the gland that drains the ear.

My girls have been having ear infections and I have read that 95% of them are due to food allergies. We since have done some testing through Immuno-Laboratories who guarantee their results for ear infections...we have just removed the offending foods and will see if it works.

Good luck.
