Almost 1 Year Old and No Teeth

Just wondering if any other infants out there did not have teeth by their first birthday. My daughter will be one at the end of the month and no signs of any teeth coming in. My son was 10 months when his first tooth emerged. We go for her 1 year check up the beginning of June but would like to hear from other moms whose little ones were late teethers. Thanks

Sounds like he's just a late teether. My son got all 4 of his front teeth around his 1st birthday. My daughter just got her first at almost 8 months.

Usually, the later they come in the better they are!
Also, if they get them late, they will lose them late.
Lots of babies get teeth late. Hope that helps.

S.,

If I understand everyone else correctly, the later they come in, the better. They are better able with the pain (no guarantees) as well as: their permanent teeth are later. Which means they have very established brush patterns if you do your job right, and fewer cavities. My understanding is that it is a dentist's dream because of the later onset of adult teeth. :)

Have fun and establish those brushing patterns early! :D

Don't worry! My first had no teeth til 11-12 months, my second has 6, working on 2 more at 11 months! Who knows why? If you're still concerned, call your peditrician, and voice your worry. Good luck.

Hi S.,

According to my mother, I didn't get my first tooth until I was 14 months old and then I got four teeth at once. I also didn't lose my first tooth until I was nearly seven years old, so I was a late bloomer all around. My teeth are very healthy (only one cavity in my life!), and my mother claims it is because I got my teeth so late. I don't know if I believe that, but I've let her keep her theory. =)

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Enjoy the toothless grin!

My daughter was always drooling, but no teeth until after a year. She turned 12 this month and her teeth all came in beautifully. She has still not lost all her baby teeth and the dentist said, "La†e in, late out." We took that as a good thing. Why not bring your daughter to the dentist to have her gums checked and get her used to brushing the gums so she will be ready when they come in. Just a suggestion.

Hi S.. My daughter just started getting one tooth...she is now 13 months. I wasn't nervous when they didn't coem in before her first birthday bc I figured all babies walk and all babies get teeth. so don't worry. my daughter only has the one toothe and it's not even completely in yet! it's more annoying not being able to give her certain foods. best of luck!

Hi S.,
Don't worry. My son was 14 months before he cut his first tooth. I'm a dental hygienist and I thought I was going to have a toothless child! LOL He has 20 perfect teeth now and a wonderful smile!

Both my kids were almost 14 months when they got their first tooth. My daughter finally got her full set of 20 a few months before she turned three. My son is 25 months and has 11, so they do come in!

This is very normal, so don't worry. Someone told me that the later the teeth come in, the stronger they are. Not sure if that's true, but I like to think it is, as we wait for our 11-month old to get her first!

S., I have 2 children who got their teeth late after 15 months old and they have the strongest and most beautiful teeth in the world the dentist told me that the longer the teeth take to come in the stronger they will be and neither one of them has had any cavities but they will also lose them later my 16 year old just finished losing his baby teeth this past summer and my 13 year old still has 4 baby teeth left to come out. Check with your pediatrician just to make sure that nothing is wrong but I wouldn't worry if he says everything is ok. Hope it helps.

Hi S.,

I believe all children get them different times. My daughter had 2 teeth by 3 months old. My son he was 1 years old or even 15 months old. So I would not be alarmed just yet. :)

Absolutely normal! my daughter didn't get her first tooth until around 12 months, 2 months later now she still has only one lonley tooth (despite numerous teething episodes). my friends' daughter didn't get any teeth until 14 months.
so totally don't worry about it. I was amazed and how well my daughter could chew even with no teeth!

My son did not have ANY teeth until he was 15 months old! He could chew and eat everything without them and I heard we should not worry until 17 months. Now he has 10 teeth and more popping out all the time. He goes in teething spurts where he will get 2 or 3 at a time and have a fever for 3-4 days and then be fine for a week. It sucks but it is almost over. My husband had no teeth on his first b-day either.

My friend's son was 19 months before he got his first tooth. They all came in eventually and he has a full set of healthy teeth now. He is 8 and his adult teeth are arriving late too, which is probably a good thing in terms of looking after them!

Don't worry about it, every child is different. Mine will be 1 yr next sunday and she has two teeth now, but when I talked to my ped, she said she sees kids with their first tooth at 14 months, and then they all come out at the same time :o) On the other hand, some kids get them at like 6 months. It's the same thing as with crawling/walking. When the time is right, it will happen. So don't worry about it.

My son did not get his first tooth until his first birthday and he is 20 months old and still only has 4 teeth fully emerged. There are others breaking through but everyone continues to tell me not to worry...the later they grow in, the stronger they will be. My mother in law, who is Vietnamese, says that it is good luck for the family to have the teeth come in late...

We didn't experience this, but my neighbor did. Her little one got her first tooth 14 months- one of the "top-side" teeth too! She panicked and asked the doctor at the one-year check up. The doctor commented that he guessed that Shannah hadn't read any of the "books" and was going to get teeth when she was ready!

Don't worry, your daughter will get her teeth soon enough!

My daughter was 8 months when she got her 1st tooth. My son was 14 months when his 1st tooth erupted. He is 3 1/2 and has a perfect set of teeth. Discuss this issue with your pediatrician. I'm certain he/she will tell you it's normal.

My daughter actually cut her first tooth on her first birthday. Then she got 4 top teeth almost all at once! It was a really rough week! I was 13 months when I got my first tooth and they all came in fine and I think I have very nice teeth :) So nothing to worry about! :) You may just have a late bloomer! Good luck!

Hi S.!
My daughter was also almost one before she got her first tooth. After that they came one right after another. And surprisingly, she had no mouth pain. I have heard that the later your baby gets her first tooth the later they lose them. Also, they are much more stronger! And I do have to agree with that statement. My daughter is 6 1/2 years old now and hasn't lost a single tooth yet (or has any kind of cavities). I assure you that it is quite normal. Don't worry. Good luck

My son did not get his first tooth until he was around one year old. Count your blessings (no painful bites!) and don't worry - they will come in soon. My son is seven now, and down the road your child will probably lose his teeth late as well. My son was one of the last in his class to lose a tooth.
