The second that my 10 month old touches the grass he breaks out in a 24 hour rash... should I have his allergies tested or will he out grow this?

What can I do next?

What type of grass do you have on your lawn? There are certain types of grass, like Kentucky Blue Grass and Bermuda Grass that can cause more sensitivity. And dont set him in the grass if its recently been mown, and make sure you have a bag for your lawn mower so grass clippings arent left on the ground.

But, just as a side note, my daughter did this, my sisters did this and most small kids I know did this. By the next summer they all grew out of it. It doesnt hurt to bring it up with your pediatrician however, especially if allergies run in your family.

First, keep him out of the grass for now. Mention this to his pediatrician. If he's going to grow out of it, he'll do it whether you have him tested or not, and tests often don't show allergies in young children. Make sure the grass you've had him on isn't treated with any kind of weed killer, fertilizer, or chemical runoff from something nearby. He might be allergic to what's on the grass instead of the grass itself.

Get your child tested for allergies pronto. They can do it by taking a vial of blood and testing that, and while that won't be fun, neither is the sickness that can come from allergic reactions.

My daughter, now almost 6, spent most of her first 3 years sick. We found out when she was a year old that she was allergic to numerous indoor and outdoor things, cats and dogs, plus cow's milk and eggs. Even knowing what to avoid (or try to avoid), she still got sick regularly, but we knew we were doing all we could to minimize that, and not aggravate it when it was bad. She now only rarely has problems, has outgrown the milk but not the egg allergy, and we hardly think about her allergies.

If you do get your son tested and find that he has allergies, don't panic. Just know that you will get it figured out, and your lives will get easier. Good luck.

I highly recommand you do the allergy test on your kid because the longer you wait the more problems you will have, i just had my 10 year olds allergy tests done and i found out that he is allergic to alot more than i thought he was and now he has to have allergy shots 2 a week now so i highly recommand the allergy tests so that way you dont end up with more than you thought.thanks J.

M., If I may suggest PLEASE consider getting him tested to environmental allergens and or Food as well.

It will only get worse if he is allergic, I say this as my son when he was little (he is 19 ) had severe allergies and developed allergy induced asthma... if they are allergic to one thing it is highly likely that there are other things.

The allergy testing is not pleasant but a necessity for his health and for you to know what to avoid in order to prevent a severe allergic reaction that could be life threatening.

my son used to do kind of the same thing. it was like, on his legs, where the grass touched him, his legs would turn red. I didn't worry about it so much, cause it didn't bother him and he's actually grown out of the turning red thing.

But he's 2 1/2 now, and I have him on children's claritin daily because he does, apparently, have allergies. Which ones we don't know, we are just trying this and its working, so no further tests have been done.

I would def. mention it to his doctor.
