Air Duct Cleaning Recommendations

My daughter has had respiratory issues since she was came home from the hospital. I am starting to think it is something in the vents of my home. Our house was built in 2002 so it is not very old where one would think there would be bad stuff in the vents and air ducts. We did have some work done in the basement to make a workout room just after she was born. So my question is has anyone used an air duct cleaning company that they would recommend. I am at my wits end as to why she is always needing oral albuteral or nebulizer treatments.

E.-it may be allergies, but i would take her to a repiratory specialist. you can even try children's claritin or singulair (need an Rx).

Can't recommend a company but yes good idea to have them checked and cleaned.

If you live in an area with lots of trees around your home, know that the tree pollen has been very high which can be effecting your daughter. It's been so thick here I can actually see it falling, covering my car and driveway.

You mentioned this problem started when your daughter came home from the hospital...Hope not, but it is possible that she caught some sort of respiratory infection while she was there. I'm bringing this up as this happened to me. I'm COPD and spent a week in the hospital due to a side effect from a new medication that played havoc with the COPD. My home visiting nurse gave me a sm. serial container for me to spit what I was caughing up into it. It was sent to a lab for testing....it turned out to be a staff infection which I'm still on Antibiotics for and both this nurse and my doctor feel I caught this while in the hospital. So you might want to have your child tested just to make sure she's ok in terms of this. Know I did not run a fevor with this problem but lost my voice after being home for a while is why this test was suggested by the nurse. Smart thinking man as I had a follow up appointment with one of my doctors just the day before and this test wasn't even considered.

Anyway, I do hope that your daughter feels better soon...sending healing hugs.

I worked for an air cleaning co. We would tell people to open a vent or two.. in different rooms.. take a white rag and wipe inside.. is it dirty? If it's just a little dusty you can buy a filter you can put into each vent.. it keeps the dust from getting into the air. You can go on allergy websites... they sell all different things like that, like special sheets for the beds, and pillow cases.. all non allergic stuff. good luck. Also if you have wood floors redone, or painting and spackling.. cover over the vents.. so the dust doesn;t get into the vents..so many people never cover the vents when they do work.. covering the vents when you have a lot of work to do helps. good luck.

I know service master does air duct cleaning, though I have only used them for carpet cleaning. Did you know that dairy sensitivity can also cause respiratory symptoms. My middle son, had a dairy allergy as a baby/toddler. He did ok when nursing but when weaned to formula we had to put him on soy due to fussiness/constipation. Then when I switched him to whole milk, the respiratory symptoms started. I did some research and found milk to be a common culprit. We confirmed the allergy by taking him off milk for a few weeks and then reintroducing it. As soon as we did the coughing returned. We then took him very strictly off dairy for a year (nothing with milk proteins in it either) and then slowly reintroduced it to him. He can now tolerate dairy just fine. Dr Weill's website has alot of info on dairy sensitivity. Also do you have any pets in the home she could be reacting to??

I don't know of any company but my oil service company always did it when needed. I would recommend an air filter unit for the baby's room. My brother has one and their respiratory paroblems have decreased foir the family.
