Age for 20 Diapers/week?

I don't think we got under 20 a week until potty training about 3. If you divide it per day that is 3 or less per day so if you are that low and they aren't usingthe potty are they getting enough fluids?

20 diapers a week is less than 3 diapers a day. I don't think at any age or weight 3 diapers a day is healthy. That would mean you only change your child when they wake, middle of day and before bed.
Even 30 diapers a week seems like not enough. You only change him 4 times a day?

That actually seems kinda low. Even at 18-27 months (before we potty trained) we would probably do 5 per day which put us at 35. I'm not sure how you're working only a little more than 3 per day. Once potty trained we got down to 2 per day for nap and bedtime.

Just a note -
we used cloth pretty exclusively with our first child, and are mostly using it with our second. (We have used paper for both kids at night, because we felt like sleeping was more important than diaper changing. My older kid wore cloth diapers for the last few weeks she wore diapers at night, and i expect to do that with my younger when he gets there, too.)

So, my daughter was out of diapers in the day before she was 2, and at night before she was 3. My son is showing less interest, at 14 months, so we'll see how it goes with him. I think i was lucky with my daughter, and i don't know that i expect it to go so smoothly another time around.

At 14 months my son is wearing about 4-5 diapers a day, one of which is disposable. Sometimes he wears fewer, because we are starting to try underwear while we are at home. (He is not trained, but this is a step in training that makes it easier for me to see when he needs to/has gone, and easier to change.) I don't know that your idea of using fewer diapers is unrealistic or not, but it seems at least plausible. It seems especially plausible given that a lot of people mix cloth and disposable.

Another note, i quite like the idea of early potty training (Interesting book: http://www.amazon.com/Diaper-Free-Before-Healthier-Toilet... is 'Diaper free before three'), and my kids have both sat on the potty regularly from about 6 months onwards. It is a very different approach than the 'potty train in one day' thing that other people have luck with, but it has worked for us. You may want to think about how that fits into your life or ideas.

And the other thing i wanted to note here - we invest heavily in expensive cloth pocket diapers - easier to use, and less leaky for us, than diaper service diapers. It means that i wash my own diapers, but i don't find that to be onerous. I am not sure we won on the cost with our daughter, but i think we are ahead in cost from both a service and disposable route with my son. We have been able to re-use the diapers from my daughter, and will be passing some of them on to another kid when we are done with them. - I don't think a one-to-one comparison is quite complete here, given the durable nature of diapers.

Guess I'm not a good mommy...LOL! My 16 month old son, is not a heavy wetter at all. We were only using disposables and I'm not one of those Moms who change my kiddos every time they wet their diaper. Both of my boys have never complained or fussed from a wet diaper. With that said excluding #2 diapers, I change my kids 3-4 times a day. When they wake up, before naptime, sometimes after a nap (depending on how wet) and before bed. So that's about 3-4 diapers/day. I do not change at night unless its a dirty diaper.

My 16 month old is just starting to become pretty regular with his BM's either early in the am or right after a nap. So I try to wait until he does his job before changing his am diaper or after nap diaper. If not then its just one more change.

Heck, I just switched to cloth because my older son (3) has no problem sitting in wet pants (trying to potty train) and I didn't want the same problem with my 16 month old. Wishful thinking I guess, the 16 month old still doesn't care if he's wet. So I just change about every 4hrs with cloth, and we use a diaper at naptime & bedtime!

This routine started right about a year old for my youngest. Couldn't tell you about my 1st I don't remember at all how many times I changed him!! I still wasn't running around squishing diapers to see if he was wet :)

edit oops: Mommy brain there are 7 days in a week not 5...duh so I guess 20 is pretty low even with the just 3 changes a day your looking at, at least 21 diapers/week. Maybe your diaper service is servicing those who don't exclusively use cloth, but a combination of disposables too! BTW my son is 26 lbs.

We've used cloth diapers throughout. Cloth diapers do have to be changed more frequently than disposable, since they don't wick the moisture away from the body as effectively (more natural). Using cloth diapers, I can't ever imagine getting under 20 diapers per week, unless it's during potty-training, when your child is only using diapers for naps and bedtime. Up until my son was potty trained, we averaged 7 diapers a day--that's about 45 a week! (He was a heavy wetter and also pooped several times a day.) I washed my own, though, so it didn't really matter to us.

I don't think you will be able to go down to that few as long as your child is in diapers full time. The fewest I ever changed was 4 per day...upon waking, midmorning, midafternoon, and before bed. That was when my son was close to being potty trained and he was "holding it" for periods of time. Maybe the 20/week are for the children who use the potty a couple of times each day or who use disposibles for sleeping.

I second the suggestion of looking in to Diaper Free before three. Or google search for elimination communication. It is a possibility and I found it no more "work" than reading my girls hunger and sleep cues. We set up a routine of when we went (right after wake up and before feeding and after feeding) I could feel my children consciously release their urine/control their muscles when sitting on the toilet.
Both of my girls regularly used the toilet starting about 6 months and we used g diapers as well. I will comment on your gdiaper post specifically about that. :)

Well, my almost 3 year old will pee in the potty but not poop. We cloth him, and use less than 20 for him (7 to 10 mattering on the pooping he is doing), but we also have a 10 month old and I really don't keep track. I wash them myself.

20 diapers a week would be less than 3 per day. That means one over night, change in the morning, leave him in it for half the day, not chafing until 3 or so and then the third diaper for the rest o the day. As for bodily function changing, he will begin to produce less during the night, but daytime will still go often.i would say that at least 3 diapers would be required for daytime hours... At the least!

The 20 diaper option is for potty training. When your child is potty training, he'll spend more time without the diaper and instead using the potty, allowing for as few as 20 diapers.

My 18 month 20lb-er (yeah, she's super light) goes through 21 diapers on a typical week. Wake up, pre-nap, pre-bed are our normal changes. Obviously if she poops we change her and that sometimes means we do a change a little earlier than normal or that we have an extra change but since she's quite regular, 21 is very normal.

20/week is less than three changes a day - I don't think that is every going to happen...Wake up, After nap, before bed...I am sure that your child will be at least wet once in between those times...especially if you change in the middle of the night (or do you double the disposables?) Once potty trained during the day (somewhere between 2-4) you can go down to one/day!
