Age Appropriate DVD for 15 Month Old

veggie tales, backyardigans, little einsteins, thomas the tank engine...baby einstein can get SO boring after the hundreth time watching! :)

my son is only just now getting into a few of the disney movies, and he's two. he liked nemo and lion king, both of which have kinda "scary" parts that i'm afraid might be too much for him...but at 15 months i would think i'd leave those at home. just my thoughts. my kiddo has no interest in any of the "classics" yet, like beauty and the beast, or sleeping beauty...my fave's! :) good luck and have fun!

my kids all loved sing a long tapes, The Disney ones were great or even the Veggie Tales sing a longs. The songs are short and the animation lively. You can sing and clap along with them and I think Hayden would love it!

If you want something that isn't totally going to drive you nuts when it's played for the 100th time I am totally enamored with the PBS program Between the Lions...it's a new and improved ramped up version of Sesame Street (in my opinion)...encorporates music, storytelling, puppets and phonetically learning words/letter. Totally cool and a perfect learning tool through probably 2nd grade. Any Leapfrog DVD is good as well as the Word World DVDs...they tell a cool story and the kids learn something as well.

If you are looking for more cartoon based programs, I love about anything on Noggin: Max & Ruby, Little Bear, Franklin, Pinkey Dinkey Doo....all of the programs have great lessons to be learned and aren't 1/2 as annoying as Spongebob...LOL...

B., Does your son like Elmo? The Best of Elmo is a great DVD. It has very catchy tunes and lots of silliness and dancing.

Bob the builder, thomas the train,barney,w.pooh, dora, diego, or any of the nick shows. Those are all good. Go browse the movie isile at walmart or google them on the computer. Pretty much anything with lots of singing, dancing, and colors will entertain them. I love getting the magna doodles!! Nothing to lose and won't get colors all over the car!!

Any kind of sing along DVD would be great. Veggie Tales is one of the best. The Handy Manny DVDs are also great. They have about 2 hours worth of short cartoons on them and they might hold his interest. My son loves Handy Manny and will stop playing and watch it for a little bit. If you can find Micky Mouse Clubhouse that would be a good one too. Also, don't forget about Blue's Clues. The animated DVDs are better than the live action ones. Hope this helps!

We love Wonder Pets and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Mickey, especially, gets my daughter engaged in trying to figure out the problem.

I received DVD's of the "Cedarmont Kids" when my daughter was a baby. It is adorable. It's lots of the kid songs you grew up singing. Each song is acted out by children and sang by children. My daughter is 5 now and STILL loves these movies. I like them too, they are uplifting and it's fun to see the kids learning the songs and motions that accompany them. http://www.cedarmont.com/index2.html

If you google cedermont kids, there are also some clips on YouTube, so you could check it out. After I received the first one as a gift, I have bought many more. You can buy them at a Christian bookstore (other places as well). Don't freak out - they aren't over the top, they are perfect!

Good luck - if you get these, I think your 15 month old will love them. My daughter used to rock her whole body when I'd turn them on before she was big enough to stand to dance. Now, she'll change into play clothes to try to match the song and act the whole thing out.

My neice and nephew also love them. If my neighbor comes over and it gets turned on - she also loves them.

I think they are sweet, innocent and teach our folk songs to the kids. Many were songs I knew from childhood, but didn't know all the words to! (I do now!!)

I think we started with Toddler Tunes and then got Silly songs and the Christmas one, and etc! They're fantastic!! Good luck! K.

I know you have a ton of responses but thought I would add to them. I took a child psychology class last semester and our professor said that Blue's Clues is one of the best shows on the market today for that age group. It has bright colors and lots of repetition which helps kids learn.

Kipper the dog videos are fabulous. The voices are soothing and it promotes friendship, sharing, etc. They are great for the car because they don't overstimulate.

They are at the library, so try before you buy.

My son is 2 1/2 now but has been hooked on The Backyardigans since before he turned 1. It is so cute and entertaining and best of all it is very bearable for parents to watch. Even my husband knows all the songs.

Sesame Street has a few great ones out there, and Elmo's World is a periennial favorite. My son started watching Elmo's World at about 14 or 15 months and he is completely hooked! He learns things, too, espcecially if we ask him questions as he watches it. You can probably rent them from the library to save some money for the trip!

My son was hooked on the Leap Frog DVD's: The Letter Factory, Code Word, Word Factory, Math Circus. Even at a young age he loved it so much, we'd watch it over and over again and he learned his alphabets from it.

Well, since experts don't recommend tv for kids under 2, there really isn't anything age appropriate.

Around the age of your son, Grace really started to dig Elmo. You can get a TON of Elmo's World DVDs at Wal-Mart and Target. Another she likes and would be age-appropriate for him, are the baby sign lang. DVDs. Baby Eistein has a couple, but there is another series called "Signing Time", that is GREAT! I have only been able to find them on-line at Toys R Us. Maybe I overlooked them in the store. The PBS station back home, in NC, carried the program, but KCPT does not; we were sad! AND, if you can tolerate it, there is always "Barney"!!

My daughter is almost 3 and is just starting to become interested in the Disney movies. Just because before now, her attention span wasn't long enough for more than the 15-30 "episodes" on the Elmo and like DVDs.

Baby Einstein or Sesame Street, Elmos World are all good.

If you can find them, "KidSongs" are great! They have kids singing and dancing to familiar songs, going to the farm for "Old MacDonald," etc. My son is 3 1/2 and he's watched them for a couple of years now....LOVES 'em!

I got mine at Wal-Mart for $1! They have a 4-way stand of $1 DVDs and usually have 4 or 5 to choose from. Look for bright colors. You can also order them on-line or check for where else to find them.

Hi B., I love that Sesame Street is educational and we have a lot of the Baby Einstien as well, we have just started to branch out and I can say that the Backyardigans are bright and colorful and musical and keep my sons interest. Also The Wonderpets engage him because of the songs and the animals. I have to be loyal to BluesClues, my middle child grew up seriously addicted to it and it was actually pretty educational as well, we have only put it on a few times for our son and he has been interested. I know we had to sit through quite a lot of Dora with my middle child, but although I Know repetition is good for kids it seriously drove me bonkers so we have put Dora on exactly once, I won't lie, my son loved it ( It was some Pirate one with Piggys )
Oh and you can't go wrong with Veggie Tales, my son loves them now and our middle daughter ( 8 ) still loves them to this day. You mentioned Disney, Disney makes some great SingAlongs that have just music videos from the movies we all know and love, my little guy has the jungle book one, I think its called Bare Necesities and has green jacket, its a hit at our house. Tons of choices out there, there are lots of different sites on the internet that give parent reviews as well, and you can view parts of episodes on YouTube or maybe even see full episodes on HULU to kind of "try before you buy"
don't knock your local rental store either so you can see where your own little ones tastes run.

My oldest loved Finding Nemo when he was really little. He seemed mesmorized by the colors and would sit there in his bouncy seat an watch the movie and get so excited. That is the only movie that I remember him really liking at that age.

Elmo and Barney! I know we all hate the big purple dinosaur, but the kids love him! We also have a lot of Kipper the Dog, but he's not as entertaining, to my son anyway (he's much funnier for Mom and Dad!). Good luck!

My son who is 18 mo. squeals with delight when we put on Barney videos...so you may want to give those a try. They are fast paced and upbeat all the time.

The Classical Baby DVD set is really good. I got it on Amazon.com when my son was about a year old. It has DVDs with the themes of Music, Dance and Art. My son still loves it at 19 months, and it always calms him down.

Rather than plugging him in front of the TV have you tried buying him a few new, inexpensive books or toys? We travel to Europe every 3-4 weeks with our 16 mos old and we make him a goodie bag with new surprises to explore. Have a nice trip.

I'm not sure how long your trip will be, but you might want to check out the public library - the DVD rentals are FREE and you can loan them for 7 days. This way you can try things out and see what appeals to him. They have a variety of movies, including some great real-life movies about construction vehicles and animals, etc., as well as Sesame Street, Lots to Learn and some of the other titles that other moms have recommended. I have a 3 year old and a 14 month old. both boys. they both love Praise Baby DVD's (christian book stores.for sure) Happy Feet, Veggie Tales, Backyardagyans.

If you do not mind Christian songs then I recommend these song dvds. My daughter loved/s them and so a little boy who wouldn't sit for any dvds:

Also Boz the Bear dvds are really good

My son loves the Veggie Tales sing alongs. They're great.

Elmo videos. There's one about babies & dogs...a big hit with that age.

My daughter has loved Little Einsteins since she was 9 months old. She loves the music and art work they show. She has watch them over the past year and she interacts with the show. They pat on their lap to make rocket fly and go at different speeds. The theme song has taught her how to count back from 5. She is also able to identify muscial instruments. She knows the characters and was Annie for Halloween this year, her little brother was Leo.

Good Morning B., I think Hayden would love "Happy Feet" with all the singing and dancing. No matter his age. Anything animated. Doesn't matter if he understands or not. He will enjoy watching the characters. Thomas the Train, Veggie Tales. You could start him learning a new language with Baby Einstein's "Talking Hands"

A lot of little people just love music and animal characters.

My daughter absolutely loves the Sesame Street DVD we got her. It is the 25th Anniversary one that is all of the most popular Sesame Street songs. She never tires of it. She also loves the Backyardigans. She has been watching these since she was about 9 months and loves them because of the colors, singing, and dancing.

My daughter loves the MAGIQ dvds - she's 18 months old. It comes with a stuffed animal that interracts with the child and dvd. It also comes with a CD that interracts with the doll for shorter trips. My daughter claps and sings with it and they also teach some things (opposites, imagination, colors, etc.) I'd give it a try.

Any animated movie with animals will get his attention. I would stick to the classic Disney movies if you're going that route. Lady & the Tramp, Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatians, etc. These older ones don't teach the little ones bad habits like spitting (Madagascar) for example. Happy Feet is also a great one. My 2 1/2 year old still loves that one to this day. We introduced that one to her around 15 months too. Fraggle Rock might also be a good choice with all the silliness & singing & dancing. Christmas with Elmo is a fun one. And I agree with some of the other moms, Barney was a favorite in our household. My son's favorite when he was about that age was Toy Story 2. He's still a Buzz Lightyear fan and named his cat Buzz. All the suggestions are good ones. Have fun shopping!

I think any of the Nick Jr. shows are great, like, Diego, Wonder Pets, Dora (I know it's a "girly" show but it's educational) and Elmo/Sesame Street is always good. My son has been watching those shows since he was real little and it has helped him with his shapes, colors, letters and he even has learned a little spanish!! I like them better than just a movie because he is actually learning something. Good luck!

I have 3 boys and I agree that Backyardigans and Veggie Tales would be great for him at the age, but I am surprised no one mentioned The Wiggles. My middle son was OBSESSED with the Wiggles when he was 15 months old. He would watch an entire DVD without moving (and he has ADHD so that's saying a lot!!!) One of his favorites was the one with Steve Irwin where they are at the Australia zoo. Lots of animals. I think it is called a Wiggly Safari but I could be wrong.

You could get some Sesame Street / Elmo videos if he likes them - I know my 1 yr old goes crazy over Elmo. You might try something like the Wiggles or Winnie the Pooh. Good luck.

Our daughter LOVES her "Meet the Colors" video. It's by Preschool Prep. We got it as a gift from a friend for her first birthday. I don't like her to watch tv but she does get to watch her Colors video for about 5 minutes before bed each night. She's 15 mos old and knows all her colors! I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it. I don't know if it's available in stores, but we're planning to get her the letters and numbers DVDs for Christmas.

Holy cow have you got some shopping to do! LOL. I thought I'd add that I babysat an 16 month old boy who absolutely ADORED Happy Feet. I have never seen such a cute sight as that boy mesmerized with the penguins and the little smile on his face as he watched with rapt attention to the screen for the ENTIRE movie. He'd seen it at least 20 times already too. Its really a cute movie with some fun songs in it....not too annoying to the moms and dads.
