Advise on Yo Baby Yogurt

I just recently started giving my 6 1/2 month old boy Yo Baby yogurt and I notice that he throws up way more then he used to and it smells really bad. He actually hardly ever threw up before when I was just feeding him cereal and stage 1 fruits and veggies. I still breastfeed, but have supplemented with milk based formula all along, so I know he doesn't have a milk allergy. Has anyone else had this problem?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I stopped giving him the yogurt, and wouldn't you know the foul smelling throw up has stopped! I guess I'll try again when he's a little older. He's such a good eater that I get excited when I'm allowed to try new things with him, but I guess he's not ready for the yogurt. Thanks everyone, it's always good to hear other mothers experience.

I found that it was the apple flavored one that made my kids vomit. also the dutch apple baby food they just couldn't handle the cinnamon.

We waited until 8 months to give our baby Yobaby yogurt, she loves it! They have several flavors, my daughter prefers the peach/pear one or the vanilla/banana. They also have breakfeast ones also which are cereal and yogurt. We did not ask our pediatrician for the OK however we did wait until 8 months and I would strongly advise stopping the yogurt for now if he/she is having any issues with it.

Formula and yogurt are both altered from milk in different ways. Some babies could handle both a milk-based formula and yogurts this early, some only one or the other, some neither. I'd say give it a few more months and try again. I think yogurts and cheeses are recommended in the 9-10 month range, shortly before you can start whole cow milk.

I disagree with it having to do with "plain-tasting foods" though. Baby's taste buds are in the process of developing now, which is all the more reason to feed interesting, flavorful things. You're setting up eating patterns for the rest of his life. I think a lot of kids who are started as babies on boring jar foods and blah cereals are the same ones who grow up to be picky eaters.

i don't think my pediatrican had me give my daughter yogurt until she was about 9 months old and she didn't have any problems.
if your son is throwing up a lot more often, then i would stop yogurt completely for a month and then maybe try it again. when you try to give it to him again, i would only give it once and then wait a few days to see if he has any problems.

I think it's a bit early to give that yoghurt. you have to bare in mind, baby's taste buds haven't developed much yet and he should be eating 'plain tasting foods' only. The yoghurt has a strong taste.
taste baby cereal and see it has like no taste and then taste the yoghurt yourself and see what i am talking about
good luck to you

Just wanted to throw out there that I wanted to give my baby that Yo Baby Yogurt too....but after reading the ingredients there is really too much sugar in it. 16 grams is a lot for an infant (in general too). Be cautious of this.

Hi K.,
I always found that my kids never liked "baby" yogurts too. I always gave them the yogurt I would eat.

I have a 18 month old and he can't eat any yogurt at all. He gets diarrhea any time that he does. He isn't allergic to milk and doesn't have the problem w/ any other foods, just the yogurt.

the yo baby yogurt is made iwith 100% whole milk. babies should not have whole milk until they are 1 year old, i would talk to his ped. before trying it again.
i waited until my son was on whole milk before intorducing it to him. i think your baby is getting pleny of nutrients from breast milk- so don't worry about that!

good luck!

Hi K.,
I always found that my kids never liked "baby" yogurts. I started giving my kids yogurt when they were strong enough to sit for a while on their own (around 4-5 months). Since they didn't like baby yogurts I tried La Creme yogurts (which were mine). They tend to be sweeter and not so tart and also it has all the fat content they needed. They loved it...all three of my kids did.

As far as an allergy to milk, you may want to try what one of the other moms said, try one and wait to see what happens!

Good luck to you!!
