Hi,

I'm interested in purchasing a jogging stroller and don't know where to start. Will jog on roads and trails, but not more than 3 miles a few times a week. Any recommendations? Fixed wheel/ swivel wheel. Do you really get that much more when you pay more? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Bought the BOB Revolution and so far so good. Love the swivel wheel and will test it jogging tomorrow.
Thanks!

Friends of mine swear by the BOB Revolution. One friend has put 600+ miles on it on trails with her son (now 1.5 yr old). We just got one and the wheel can be set to fixed or swivel with just a simple flip of the mechanism.

The BOB Revolution model has a swivel wheel with the option to lock it into place to make it a fixed wheel. It also has attachments that allow an infant carrier to fit until the child is ready to sit up on their own. I got one for my last baby and I absolutely love it! It is so easy to use and take apart and durable! They are a little more money, but you can find a good used model at Play It Again Sports on Fairview near Cole in Boise. I just drove by there today and they have several models sitting out front. If you prefer new, you can buy them direct from REI. I would highly, highly recommend that you get the tires "bulletproofed" if you go with a tube-tire stroller, regardless of brand. Any off-roading that you do around this area is guaranteed to find a goathead or two and if you spend a few extra dollars at the bike shop, they will bulletproof your tires. Bulletproofing includes a puncture-resistant tube and Slime applied inside. Best money I ever spent!

I would go swivel wheel personally. I have a fixed wheel stroller and it takes quite a bit of strength to muscle the thing around and even to keep it going straight (I think mine needs a wheel alignment) You can tip it up on the back wheel to turn it easily, which isn't really a problem. However, if you have a small car (I have a Hyundai Elantra Sedan) a fixed wheel jogger stroller may not fit in the trunk after its folded up (the front wheel, since it won't swivel, stands up too tall for my trunk even after its folded down). I would DEFINALTY get into REI (I tihnk they carry joggers) and try out some strollers jogging on their trails and try folding the stroller and fitting it into your trunk before purchasing. I know at Babies R Us you can get an associate to let you take the floor model out of the store to try it outside and folding it and see if it fits in your car. Anyway, good luck!

Definitley the Bob Stroller. I got the Duallie becvasue I have 4 babies. I researched for a long time and every jogger and everyone in Boulder has this one. It is the best. I am extremely athletic and go all the time and they love this one. Tinyride.com

I am sure you'll get lots of recommendations for specific strollers, and I don't know enough about all the different brands out there, but I will say that we bought the Baby Trend Expedition - it fit with our infant bucket system, and frame stroller, and was quite affordable. We weren't planning on using it as our primary stroller - like you, we wanted it for walks/jogs and long outings.

Anyway, it has a fixed front wheel - which at first I didn't think was a big deal. Well - every time I need to turn the stroller I have to tip it on it's back wheels to turn it. I am used to it now, but it was awkward, and I have said to my husband that if I had to do it again, I would have chosen one with a swivel wheel in front.

Also, our jogging stroller is somewhat heavy, but it folds up great and doesn't really take up any more space in our car than our regular stroller.

I would definitely push the strollers around the store - try it out right there. Open it, shut it, carry it, push it around, try out all the gizmos and gadgets. It's an investment... take it for a "test drive."

Also keep in mind storage in the stroller - especially if you plan to use it for long outings, etc. (like the zoo, etc.) Ours has great storage and it's easily accessible.

Just a few things to think about!

I had a fixed wheel double stroller and jogged with it. It was hard to turn corners you had to lift the front wheel up and turn. I also got my on ebay for a great price.

Check out www.onestepahead.com for their jog strollers. I had the double for the last 4 years and LOVED it. I just sold it because I only need a single now. I just got the single from the same catalog and so far I am loving it as well. It is actually a Babytrend, but it's a special edition made just for One Step Ahead with some extras (rain shield, tire pump). My double had a fixed wheel, my single has a swivel that can be locked and I am really enjoying the easier steering. I can easily steer with one hand. It sells for $159, plus you can usually find a 15% off coupon code on www.couponcabin.com (I used code "15SAVONE") which brings the price down to about $130. An awesome price for great quality stroller. I know you can spend $400 on a very fancy stroller, but I personally don't think it's worth it!

Allright. My best friend and I both jog everyday, she has the swivel wheel and mine is fixed. For jogging the fixed wheel is definetley the way to go because you dont have to worry about the wheel getting knocked around by rocks etc. My BF hates her swivel wheel ALOT! Just another opinion for you...Good luck!

I have 2 young children and use my double jogging stroller all the time. It is definently worth the extra money I think...especially for 3 miles jogs. Good luck!
