My husband has one, and he loves it. It is totally a guy thing. His is a Garmin Nuvi, and I think you can get them cheap online. I think it is a good gift idea.
Hi. Im thinking of getting my husband a portable GPS for fathers day. I know nothing about them. I have the Costco booklet that has the Magellan RM 1412 4.3" portable GPS for $150. Anyone have one that they are happy with or any that arent worth it? I would like to spend no more than $200. This would be for leisure use. Thanks!
Thank you all so much for your great advice. I decided to go with the Garmin Nuvi 760 GPS. I can't wait to give it to my husband on Sunday. Hope everyone has a joyful Father's Day!!

We have a Tom Tom. Easy to use, affordable and compact!
Nicole-
My husband was given a Garmin brand GPS for xmas. We love it...it does say the street names (like Shannon wrote) which is so helpful. Also, ours has a feature where you can put in what kind of restaurant you are looking for and it gives you a bunch of options in a certain mileage radius. We have fun using that option when we can't think of what to have for dinner or just out and about and want to try something new. You want to make sure that it is able to be easily taken out of the car or locked in a glove box though; there have been increasing reports of people breaking into cars to steal them. We never leave ours in the car.

Hi Nicole,
If you get one definitely do NOT get a Magellan. They are horrible. The Garmin from my experiences are the best. If you want high tech with good looks, get the Garmin Nuvi, there are alot of models to choose from. One with Bluetooth capability would give you the option of using the GPS for speaker for your cell phone. You should also get one that annouces the street names you have to make the turns at, most do not do this. The Garmin also allows you to scroll down to the next directions before it happens so you know which route it is taking you to, whereas the Tom Tom does not allow you to do this (at least, not the 2 that I've seen). I have the Garmin 580, the one that looks like a mini tv. It's not as nice looking as the nuvi but the features are the same. The advantage of the nuvi is that you can slip it in your pocket, it's flat. I got mine at Costco and that model included a year subscription for MSN direct which provides me with local gas prices and movie searchs no matter where I travel. Hope this helps. If you need more info please feel free. Everyone in my dept. at work has a Garmin. I work in IT and travel with the Garmin often.
go to gpsmagazine.com - they have reviews and comparisons. we got a Garmin Nuvi 360 based on the review there and love it. Look for Text to Speech (says street names), that is the most helpful aspect. Good luck
I have a Tom Tom and LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!
My husband just got one on ebay. It was factory refurbished or something like that. Looks, acts and feels brand new. It's a Garmin Nuvi I believe. We got it for like $140 including shipping and we love it! It works great!
