Advice on Choosing Cloth Diapers?

Hi- my daughter is 10 mos old and we have been using disposables exclusively so far. I am now considering purchasing a few cloth diapers to alternate with the disposables. My question is, how do you think they compare in dryness and breath-ability/temperature against the skin(in the summer)relative to disposables? (Especially interested in hearing about Bum Genius or other "all-in-one" styles.)Thanks.

What can I do next?

We did all in one and Bum genius when my daughter was younger. She got mre rashes than the all natural diapers. She has very sensative skin. but I am hoping I can use clot on the next kido. You can go to Mother and Child in Nashua on Amherst st they carry the ones you are looking for new and used if you want to try one of each before you invest alot of money. I wished I did. good Luck

We used Kushies AIO diapers with our daughter who was an August baby. Honestly they were great! No leaking issues, no rashes. They can be expensive and then if you don't buy enought due to the cost you're doing laundry incessantly. Have fun!

I don't use pocket diapers so no help there but I do love cloth diapering. I use fitted diapers mostly and my favorite brands are sugar peas, dream'eze, and motherease. As far as covers bummis SWW, and imsy vimsy covers are the best (IMO). You may want to check out this website www.greenmountaindiapers.com and jillians drawers. I have found them to be really helpful.
You may want to try a few different styles of cloth diapers to see what fits best on your baby and what you like. Good luck!

I started cloth diapering my daughter exclusively when she was 10 mos. old too. It was the best decision I've ever made. We use bum genius, happy heiny's, prefolds and covers, and a few other brands that we've picked up along the way. I love the bum genius for dryness, but I find that the fit isn't as good as happy heiny's one-size. I would suggest to you before you go all in on one type of diaper, to try out a few different kinds. We generally use prefolds the most and they are by far the cheapest way. So don't rule those out.

As far as rashes go. There are a lot of reasons for rashes occurring and they don't necessarily have to do with the cloth diaper itself. It can be the detergent, food allergies (My daughter started having awful rashes about a month after we started cloth diapers and it ended up being because of food which we had just started around the same time), or (and I hate to say this because it certainly doesn't explain all rashes) not changing the diapers enough. It's true, with cloth diapers, you may find that you're changing more diapers, but it's only because we're trained with disposables that even if there's a little pee in it, we let it go until "it's full". Studies actually show that cloth diapered babies have 70% less rashes, but there are obvious exceptions.

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them! You can also check out diaperpin.com. They have reviews of all kinds of cloth diapers and lots of cloth diapering information.

I have been using cloth diapers since my son was about a month old. I bought a couple of diapering packages with different diapers and covers at first, just to try them out. We ended up using prefolds almost exclusively, using Snappis to fasten them, and Bummis Super Whisper Wraps and Whisper Pants for covers. The all-in-ones are ok, IMO, but I don't think the benefits outweigh their high cost compared to the prefolds and separate covers.

My son was born at the end of the summer last year, so I don't know much about summer breathe-ability. However, when we use disposables on him, he often gets a rash or chafing on his legs, which almost never happens with the cloth diapers. As long as you change the baby often, especially when she's moving around a lot, the cloth should be fine. My son isn't bothered by wetness, even when the diaper has been soaked for a while (like overnight), and he's never really had a rash with the cloth.

I highly recommend cloth if you're interested -- it's really economical and easy to use! Good luck!

I've only used pocket diapers, but my favorites are huggabuns ultra pocket diapers - www.huggabuns.com. They are also the best deal I've found in the easy-to-use styles. I use them on both my kids, and the only times they get rashes is after being in disposables for a long time. They are lined with fleece, which keeps them from getting too damp. You do need to change them more frequently, and I wash mine in dye and scent-free detergent (just Costco brand). I also recommend diaperpin.com as a great starting point for figuring out which type of diaper works best for you.

hi
i am not sure if you already bought some cloth diaper yet?

check out www.jilliansdrawers.com very good website and store for cloth diapers. I have used Fuzzi Bunzi (old version), Bum Genius's one size 2.0v, Rumpster's all in one with organic hemp (i dont like it even it works good but it smelly easily after pee if u use worng soap or to much soap) with my older son... i love Bum Genius mostly. Now there are new Version of Fuzzi Bunzi (oh FB and BG both diapers are pocket) i have 3 new BG 3.0V for my soon to be born daughter. but we stick to kissaluvs fitted and swaddlebee organic velour fitted with imse vmse, bummis and thriste covers in newborn size. we arent sure about the size next. we maybe go for some of happy heiny and use my son's ols BG's one size pocket diapers. only con about 1 size diapers is it say go up to 35 lbs and it doesnt fit my son well when he got to 33 lbs at 2 yrs old. we had to stop use that diaper. my son have belly. it depend on body build shape. i like the size small, medium and large because it fits better and last longer than one size fit all if your kids is not potty trained yet.

i plan buy 1 of happy heiny and 1 of new fuzzi bunzi and few other brands that arent pocket diaper.. maybe fitted diaper w/ cover because it is cheaper? i sugguest try few brands like 1 of each up to 5 brands.

use charlie's soap or allen's natually soap is the bestttttt... use very litttttle of it. www.jilliansdrawers.com have informations about how many diapers need for age stages, what soap to use, what good cloth diaper fit you and ur baby n etc.
