The sooner the better. Don't force him, but you do need to start getting him familiar with sitting on the toilet. Then you can try to find he schedule and start training him.

It really depends on him. Watch for signs of readiness and then go for it. If he seems to really resist it, then it wasn't the right time. Boys do often take longer than girls. Signs of readiness? Dry diaper when waking up in the morning and after naps, wanting to go in the toilet and actually doing it, hiding to "do their business," letting you know they need to go.

Here is what my experience has been:
son 1: Didn't train until 3yrs 1mo. but did it in just one day.

son 2: Trained himself on going #2 at 2yrs 7mo, so I decided he could learn #1. He did so in about two days.

daughter: Did NOT want to potty train. Had brand new baby brother and wanted to stay in diapers like him. I forced it around 2.5 (since girls were supposed to train earlier). It took months to really have her trained. She was not ready.

son 3: Haven't tried yet. He is 2.5, but showing some signs of readiness. I will probably start feeling it out in July.

That's a tough one...knowing when to start them...sometimes you think they are ready, but aren't. I did both my boys (sitting down) at 2 years 6 months. They both had it down within that week. They wore underwear day and night (I know that the night underwear sometimes is not normal...I was fortunate.).

Just try it. I just tried on my 2 years 3 months old girl and she wasn't ready. I could tell after in that one day after two times of her peeing in her underwear and it didn't even bother her. I put her back in diapers right after that second time. She isn't ready.

Anytime between now and age four. It varies so much. Take your cues from him and don't rush it before you both are ready or it will take longer and be frustrating.

You can start intorducing it now but don't actually expect him to start using it.I recently started just sitting my 22 month old on the potty to just get him familar with it.I don't make him sit there if he wants to get up and I don't expect him to pee or poop in it just yet but I want him to get familiar with it to make the transition easier. You can make him familar with it but don't expect him to actually start using it until he's well into 2 or 3 years of age.I made the mistake of trying to rush my now 5 yr old into potty training at 2 and expected him to pick it up rather fast. All I got from that was a ton of stress nd he still didn't get it until late 2's or 3's.

I started announcing when I had to potty and invited my son to go with me and/or asked him before/after I was done if he wanted to try. Just don't force it yet, my son wasn't officially potty trained till he was about 2 1/2 yrs old, maybe a little older. And my son didn't really like the potty or the potty seat so I had him sit sideways on it. good luck!
