Hello Moms. Do any of you have a referral for a great psychiatrist or other MD who diagnoses and treats adult ADHD? We are in the Grapevine/Keller area but could also travel to Dallas since that is where my hubby works. Also, if any of you have any tips on how to cope with some of these behaviors in a spouse and marriage it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I would highly recommend you check out the Block Center:
www.blockcenter.com
Dr. Block is world reknowned for being able to treat this condition without drugs as she finds the culprit is often hidden food allergens, such as gluten (the protein found in wheat, rye, oats and barley) and casein (the protein found in dairy). I and my younger son are both ADHD and our symptoms have improved alot on the GF/CF diet. You might find this checklist (although oriented to kids interesting):

There is a book: Driven to Distraction
I read it and it helped me understand things a lot more.
It was written by a man with ADHD about marital relationships.

The Best to you both!

Definately see a therapist together! My husband was diagnosed ADD a few months after we were married. He was in denial until the therapist sat him down and explained it to him; his acknowledgement of the problem made a huge difference in his behavior. We worked really hard on behavior modification (mostly mine & how I interacted with him) and it paid off.

Unfortunately I don't have any recommendations for this area, we lived out of state at the time. Good luck, it is definately possible to overcome the challenges of an ADHD spouse!

I highly recommend Dr Ken Parker. This is another drug free option and he also does allergy testing and allergy treatment...and he's right here in Keller. He will do a free evaluation so what do you have to lose?

Hello I also have ADHD and have seen Dr. Martin Fisher located in Bedford, not only did he and Dr. Boyd help me understand what was going on with me but they also let me open up about any and all worries I had about ADHD and the effects of the medication I would be taking.
