Finally getting ADD meds did make my DH a different person - a better, more focused, more productive person. He's about to graduate with a masters degree with honors next semester due to help from ADD meds. If you need them - take them!
I am feeling at my wits end. I don't know if I am now suffering from adult ADD. When I was young I was diagnosed with ADD not ADHD. I had issues focusing and wasn't hyper. I was on Cylert and not Riddalin. I feel there are days I have issues focusing and have tried turning on music to tune things out at work which is helped. But I like to keep them off to keep my ears open to what is around me. I have good days where I feel like a super multitasker and some days I'm not. Some days I struggle because the task could be too big or I have so many things going its just hard.
The other issue that is truly concerning is my brain does a hiccup. I say words I don't have any intentions on saying. Like for instance I would call something by the wrong name. Sometimes I struggle getting the right word out or am unable to recall a certain case I worked at my job. I have a some what stressful job but I have been dealing with this for several years now. More so after my second child almost 5 years ago.
I first thought this was due to lack of sleep and my husbands snoring so I started sleeping on the couch. It helped and has helped some. I just feel like I am not like myself before my first child 8 yrs ago. I feel like I could be better but really don't want meds but I am feeling that may be my option.
Does ADD cause these glitches in my brain? I saw my primary doc and she gave me a prescription for ADD but I never took it. I didn't want to become a different person or dependent but I still don't know if it will help. Are the issues I have in relation to ADD?
Does anyone recommend a good doc in the Arlington or Fort Worth area? I love my primary doc but maybe I should see a doc that handles these issues? I have epilepsy but it is controlled with meds and has been for years.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You want a psychiatrist. Dr Raj Shiwach is in DeSoto. Not too far from you.
Google him.
If you were diagnosed as ADD (I think ghr correct term now is ADHD-I) as a child then yes, you still have it. Its not like certain allergies, you don't grow out of it. Its the way your brain is wired. If you take meds, the right one WILL NOT turn you into a different person, it will focus your mind.
I have 2 friends that are taking ADD meds and they report they feel human again. They finally know what it's like to not be in a fugue state all the time.
I hope you find a really good doc that can help you.
There are battery of tests that should reveal if you are ADD and what type.Find psychiatrist who is very experienced in this area. We have someone in our family who is Adult ADD Inattentive type---gets easily distracted, trouble with staying on task. Med that seemed to help the most was Dexedrine, but he could not stay on it because made heart race.
If anyone knows of an ADD support group for adults in FW area, pls post.
Have you tried an all natural route?? I know sounds cliche and kind of like nonsense. But sometimes adding vitamins and supplements (that your body is actualy able to absorb to the full potential). I know it's worked for myself, my husband and my 7yr old son along with other families. PM if you'd like more info! Id love to share!!
We can't answer that. It doesn't sound like the ADD I have. You could probably ask my kids, maybe it is the same as what they have, maybe not
I know I crave balance. I need sounds around me, sounds that are just there, so I have my radio on when I work. I actually need it more early than when people are there. The radio sets my baseline, noises louder may gain my attention but nothing below or at does. Of course I take Adderall as well. :)
Thing is though, I am 45, I have four kids, nothing along the process has changed my ADD. If anything I handle it better now than I did when I was younger.
I see you have a doctor recommended, start there.
I know nothing about ADD, and have no personal experience. But, I know my neighbor is the director here:
