Adult Acne - Fort Worth,TX

Ever since I had my 2nd child (and got my tubes tied) I have had horrible adult acne (worse than I ever had as a teenager.)
That was 16 months ago. At first, I attributed it to hormones related to pregnancy, breast-feeding & stopping breastfeeding. Now... I stopped breast-feeding at 1 year and the acne continues. I've tried Clinique's new acne treatment but it hasn't worked. Can anyone recommend a good product?

I use Noxema's Antibacterial face wash daily and for the "spots" I use a product with benzoyl peroxide. It has helped a lot. Also, I don't wear foundation except on special occasions.

I have acne related to hormones. I went to the dermatologist and he gave a few things that make it better but not totally gone. Other things that have worked really well... getting a facial. They are not cheap but if I want clear skin for a big event, I get a facial. It is worth it to me. Also, the sun/tanning beds work wonders. However, they can give wrinkles & skin cancer so I would use them sparingly. Birth control pills also work great for clearing up acne. Not sure if you can take them since your tubes are tied. Good Luck. I know how frustrating this can be.

Zap it works like proactive without the harsh chemicals and you can save money. Let me know if you have any questions. There are other cosmetics and facial products that may interest you, like lotions, toners, cosmetics, etc. Let me know if you’re interested and I can help you.

I believe it is due to your tubal. Do a research on it and you will be surprised of ALL the side effects of a tubal.

A simple and cheap solution to acne that has worked for me is Milk of Magnesia. Weird but true at the end of my shower I shake up my store-brand MoM, throw a handful on my face and let it sit a minute before rinsing it off and getting out the shower. My mom found this idea for me at http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/2009/05/17/laxative-licks/. It can be left on to dry as well.

I have taken Accutane before (in college - which did work and kept my face clear for many years but was not fun to take) and was prescribed antibiotics that did not help after my most recent major breakout last year.

Now I spend no more than $3.50 a month for a much improved complexion. I'm thrilled!

I have literally tried everything. Proactiv was the ONLY thing that has ever worked for me. Even throughout my entire pregnancy and afterward. I highly recommend it. I have it set up on autoship for every 4 months as that is how long one kit usually lasts for me. So every 4 months its only $39.95. Totally worth the price. You can even set it up to come sooner or longer than 4 months. Hope that helps!

Hello A.,

Arbonne is a botanically based skin care, health and wellness company. All products are hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, ph correct, Vegan certified (no animal products or by-products), no mineral oil and never tested on animals. Every ingredient in every product is pure, safe and beneficial.

Arbonne's Clear Advantage Line has no benzoyl peroxide in it so its less harsh then other acne lines.

Also, it can take up to and over a year for your body to get back to some normalcy. I would also reccomend our natural hormone balancing cream. This helps get your hormones back to the way they should be.

I hope this info helps. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions at all.

My website is http://www.atterberrynation.myarbonne.com.

Take care and God bless!

HI A.,

Instead of a topical treatment (Clinique's is one of the most dangerous, go to cosmeticsdatabase.com and look it up) you need to be on an absorbable multivitamin/mineral complex. Acne, adult or not, is simply what's in the body coming out. A good vitamin should get your body balanced from the pregnancy and get you back to where you were or better....

Try the Acne Free line at WalMart. It is very similar to ProActive, but did not dry my face out,a s much. Before investeing in a bunch of products, I would spend the money on a fermatologist visit.

I went to a dermatologist. She suggested a product that could GET RID OF the acne.(not just treat the outbreaks) I didnt get a prescription because she said I would not be able to wax or pluck ANY facial hair if I used it! (because the medicine thins the skin)To me facial hair is worse than a bit of acne! I wish I could remember the name?! But,if you go to the dermatologist they will be able to tell/help you. I am sure it is exspensive though,as everything from the dermatologist usually is. I know how frustrating this is so GOOD LUCK!

Be sure you are using a very gentle cleanser, such as Cetaphil. You can spot-treat the breakouts with something stronger, but my dermatologist said Cetaphil was great.

Also, you probably won't want to do this, but once I switched to a vegan diet, my skin started to look amazing. I glow and look 10 years younger. If nothing else, cut out dairy for a couple of weeks and see if that helps. Good luck to you!

You might want to try Paula's Choice. She's written a couple of books, you can check them out to gain some knowledge about Paula herself. Her line is geared towards acne. Her website is cosmeticcop.com. Her prices are extremely reasonable as well.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...but after you have a baby your body never goes back to the way it was before, hormonal or otherwise...You're going to have to figure out your skin type again..Mine was that I needed moisture..even though I thought my skin was oily..it was trying too hard to moisturize itself. oil of olay regenerist was the best thing ever invented for me. Even tried proactive...didn't work. Good luck.

Ummmm....not sure where some people are getting their information. Acne is a bacterial infection. Unfortunately, I'm prone to adult acne, too. My body just doesn't ward off the bacteria as well as other people's, and at 34, I look like a 13 year old a few weeks each month. It stinks.

I'd also recommend seeing a dermatologist so they can assess what the root cause of the acne is. There are several different kinds - acne vulgaris is the most common, but you may have cystic acne (like I do) that is much more difficult to treat.

I'd also ask your dermatologist/OB/GYN to check your hormone levels to see if that may be what's causing it.

In my case, my is best treated with a mild antibiotic and a topical antibiotic. I've chosen not to do anything (since going through chemo) these days. I just buy a 5% Benzoil peroxide solution and try to be proactive using it each day to help prevent breakouts. When my hormones fluctuate around my period, nothing works - I just have to deal with it.

Good luck.
