hey everyone.. I know I have had alot of questions, but I am at one of those places in life where you notice all your problems, really realizing for the first time that they are real issues. I have a food addiction. Before I had kids, I was very active, and 3 sizes and 70lbs lighter than I am now, with a strong metabolism. But since I don't have either of my daughters, I'm not running after them constantly, therefore don't get as much exercise.. i just wonder if anyone else has problems with food. Maybe it's an eating disorder.. I eat sometime without knowing it until it's going in my mouth.. then I hate myself for eating, I eat more when my bf is at work.. I really want to lose weight, but have no idea how to beat this. I know that my health depends on me beating this..addiction. Any words of wisdom or tips?

What can I do next?

I recommend a great website for healthy eating and healthy living. It is called sparkpeople.com, and it has helped me a lot! I have a food addicition, I look to it for comfort and I eat out of boredom. When I get upset, I go grocery shopping instead of clothing shopping. Needless to say, I am trying this sparkpeople thing and it is really helping. It helps you keep up with everything you put in your mouth, and it calculates everything for you. It also has a ton of recommendations and incentives. Good luck A. C.

I know exactly what you're going through...before I had my first child 9 years ago I weighed 120 lbs, and wore a size 6, now, 9 years and three kids later I wear a 28, and weigh 320lbs...A LOT of it is due to a hormone imbalence (so my doctor told me) but it's also due to the fact that before I got pregnant I didn't eat a lot of meat. I started craving it when I was pregnant, and now I can't get enough of it. I also started eating junk food like chips, and soda and stuff along those lines when I got pregnant, now, i can't stop...
I would go back to your OBGYN and have test your hormone levels. But also, you're going to have to learn, like I am, to control yourself. I've started to cut out sodas and starches, like breads and chips, and potatoes, and I'm staring to lose weight. I don't recomend weight watchers, just because you're going to be paying someone to tell you to do what we already know is best. Watch your calorie intake, and add more veggies and fruits, and get out and walk! walking and adding a little exercise...those will make a big difference if you just chose an apple, or an orange, celery and carrot sticks instead of other stuff to snack on. It's ok to eat! Just be more aware of what you eat!
Don't hate yourself honey, it's natural for us to gain and lose weight, just try to get your self control, under control! I'll keep you updated on my weight loss if you keep me updated on yours!!

I think this is a VERY common occurence. Before I had my son who is 2 1/2 now I was caut and thin and vibrant. I gained about 50 punds with my pregnancy and thought it would never come off, well it came off pretty quickly and I was fairly happy again. But for the last 6 months or so I have put on 20-30 pounds. It's ridiculous! I swear I eat constantly and don't even know why. I eat when I'm bored, I eat when I watch TV, I'll even have a snack after dinner? I don't understand. I to would like to lose weight, but don't know how. The biggest difference in my life now is that I am a stay at home mom so I guess I'm around food all day. I'm just trying to cut back on what I eat slowly and make healthier decisions. I'm not a big fruit and veggie eater so when I snack I'll try to have 100 calorie bag of popcorn instead of cookies or something. Just try to make better decisions and if you don't bring unhealthy food into the house you won't be tempted to eat it. Go to the grocery store when you've just eaten so you won't be as tempted by the unhealthier choices. Just be patient and keep trying. Have you considered whether or not you may be depressed? Sometimes depression can make you eat to feel better, only it ends up doing the opposite. You could talk to your primary doctor about this issue. Good Luck!

I too am in the same boat as you. Food is my comfort zone. I eat when I'm bored, when I'm upset, or just because it is there. And like you said, it is already in my mouth before I realize what I've done. I did overcome this once by joining weightwatchers online. (I got pregnant and stopped and just haven't gotten the will power to start again, but I'm trying!!!!)

The biggest help for me was keeping a food journal. Any time you put ANYTHING into your mouth, write it down. When you start to see exactly what you are eating, it becomes easier to say no to food. It also helps you realize what you are eating BEFORE you put it into your mouth.

Also, get a support buddy. . . someone else that is willing to go at it with you and encourage you when you feel down. It is amazing how much that helps!!!!!

Good luck!

It sounds like when your bf is at work, you are bored and you can only think of eating. I would take all the fatty desert foods out of the house and not to buy them anymore. I would make little snacks, like fruits and veggies all cut up in the icebox and when you get hungry or bored, you will have a healthy snack instead of a fatty snack. I would also start to exercise. I went through the same thing. My husband would leave for work and my older kids would go to school and I would get bored and eat junk, cause it taste so good, but I decided to get it all out of the house and get good healthy snacks. And it is good for my kids also. Now I am pregnant and for some reason I just can't stand sugar stuff. Thank goodness, cause I would probably eat them all the time, like I did with second pregnancy. Good Luck!!

Sounds like food has become a comfort for you. I use to not ever want to eat because it took me away from whatever I was doing. I was always thin. Well, now I'm older and three kids later, I have a weight problem and I can't get it off. Long story short, our family has encountered catestophic events within the past three years without much support and food has become my friend. One thing that helps to lose the weight is to cut out all suger and sugary products, all breads and pastas. Try doing this and watch it melt off. I won't call this a diet, but an adjustment to your eating habits. You will feel better too, just within a few days of not eating high glycemic foods. Depending on how much you cut out will depend on how fast you lose it. Now, the trick is to make this a permanent habit of cutting out the high glycemic foods. Oh sure, it's ok to have some every now and then, but you must not let this rule your eating habits. After your've gotten use to your low glycemic eating, try another thing...increase the vegetable intake. And always drink water water water. Thank you for reaching out and asking for help. When I say all of the above, I am also looking in my mirror. I hope this helps.

I also recommend Weight Watchers. The core food plan is really great because you eat as much as you need to be full and satisfied, they just focus on you eating balanced meals of healthy filling foods. Weight Watchers is also a great support group when you attend the meetings.

It may also be that you need to speak with your doctor about depression and anxiety. Depression and anxiety changes the chemicals in your body and interferes with signals about being full and being hungry etc.
