Adding Vitamin C to Child's Formula-based Diet

Hello,
I have a question whether Vitamin C should be given to a child who is exclusively formula fed. This is supposed to be suggested in Dr. Spock book, which my parents used to raise me. I haven't seen the place in the book myself, my mom quoted it to me over the phone. Yet I am skeptic since I hope :) the formulas changed over the decade. Who is right? and if Vitamin C should be given, then when exactly, in what form and how?
Thank you!

What can I do next?

I'd say no. "They" did a lot of things back then that we don't do now. From looking around a bit online it seems that formula already has the right amount of vit c. Once your child is eating solids (around 6mos or so) you can look in to other sources (juice, etc..) but for now, I'd say no on additional vitamins. But you can always check with your Dr.

thats a hard one. vitamin c can be very good yet too much can make you sick. i would really suggest asking your babies dr before giving him any vitamin c. if you are worried that hes not getting enough vitamins then put him on a liquid vitamin (with out iron because he is on formula). my 20 month old daughter takes enfamils poly vi sol (with out iron)and has taken it since she was 1 week old. i hope this is helpful to you good luck!

I have never heard of having to give children vitamin C at this age... I honestly don't know if it would do any harm OR good, but I have never heard of it so it certainly can't be the "common" thing to do anyways! :)
Good Luck!

Always ask your Pediatrician first. And since your son is just a newborn.
An infants digestive and internal organs are STILL developing as well, outside of the womb. So, for this reason, things can't just be given to the baby without knowing. If too much of something is given, it can overload the kidneys for example.

Baby formula, by law/ FDA regulations, HAS to contain Vitamin C. So don't worry. And, it has to be in the right proportions. Just look on the label of your baby formula. For a baby as well, it is VERY IMPORTANT that the formula is "iron" fortified...or a baby can get anemic.

Just ask your Pediatrician... since the days when we were children ourselves, many more advances and/or medical recommendations have changed.
