Hi J.,

I had an ablation done a year and a half ago and have not had a period since. I have been so happy with my decision. My doctor did warn me about having it done after having my tubes tied. Apparently there are some women who have more pain every month because the tubes are tied at one point and the ablation essentially blocks the tubes at the other end. Fluids build up in the section of tube between the 2 "tied" ends and can be painful when being reabsorbed by the body. I went ahead with it because my periods were so heavy I was anemic. Fortunately I haven't had anything more than some light cramping some months but mostly no pain at all. Definitely nothing worse than what I was dealing with before the ablation and no more pads, YAY! Good luck to you.

A couple of years ago I had the same procedure done. I also was done having kids and couldn't handle the cramping, pain, moodiness and expense of having control this every 3-4 week circus act. I also had a laparoscopy done to remove the endometriosis lesions which had covered about 70% of my uterus...yeah that was fun! All in all the procedure was a lifesaver!! Seriously! I recommend it to everyone! What use to be a painful period lasting 7 days every 3-4 weeks that needed double flow protection, is now hardly even noticeable...using a liner is even a "large" pad.

You will be a little sore for the weekend; maybe like heavy cramping. After that you're home free!

Only thing that I'm not sure on is that after the procedure the HPVirus was detected...not sure if that was there all along and never detected or it just appeared. I tend to believe the first. After a few months of a scare, it was later negative (thank God)...

So find a gyno comfortable doing this, research and go for it. Must warn you though, you will live life like you never have before!!!
Good luck and hope this helped!

My sister had this done about 4 yrs ago. The procedure itself was "uncomfortable" (her words), she stopped bleeding immediately and she had some cramping (like menstrual)for about 1 1/2 weeks. She did at first have - I can never have children for sure now, thoughts. But in reality she didn't want more, she just didn't want that choice unavailable to her. She has had some hormonal issues (menopause symptoms) but hasn't regretted her decision. She has not had a period since, although they say she could have a light one. Before having it done, she had periods that would last for months and had become severely anemic. She is much healthier now.

I think the first respondent might be confusing what her friend had done at 12 with something else. I just had an ablation done 2 1/2 weeks ago. After the birth of my daughter (2nd child), my periods were SO bad, that my OB recommended a D&C, hysteroscopy, and endometrial ablation. I did not take it lightly - I actually waited a year and a half to actually schedule it - 'til I just couldn't handle my ever-increasing painful, lengthy, and HEAVY periods. I can't speak for the long run, but the whole thing - from procedure through recovery has been much easier than I expected. I haven't had a period yet, so only time will truly tell, but you are welcome to check back in with me in a couple of weeks, to see how it's going. ;)

BTW: ablation doesn't necessarily get rid of periods entirely, but it will at least lighten them. :)

J.-
I had an ablation in July. I have had a period every month since. This is no guarantee you will stop your period. Make sure you do your research. Talk to your doctor. Are you doing this just to get rid of your period, or do you have other medical reasons that indicate an ablation needs to be done?

I had Novasure done in 2006, honestly I wish I wouldn't of. I unfortunatly fell into the catogory of women it doesn't work for. While sometimes my period maybe less (but its still a normal period), I have encountered side effects that are more severe now. I cramp bad all the time, and right before my period starts I can't hardly walk it hurts so bad. And sometimes intercourse is very, very painful.
I had Novasure done because my periods were very frequent and lasted 10-14 days sometimes more. I have seen a few befits but I don't think an Ablation is a guarentee to stop your periods. I had nothing that indicated that novasure wasn't perfect for me- and it failed misserably! I would weight all the information and talk with your doctor. Ask for the sats on it working, but prepare yourself in case it doesn't. Good Luck!

I had an ablation a few years ago and am SOOO happy I did. The doctor did say that it may not take the period away completely but there was a good chance that it would. I am happy to say I haven't had a period in years and it's sooo nice. I would need a separate suit case every time I traveled just for my period stuff because it was so heavy. Keep in mind I finished having my children and knew that I couldn't have anymore. I also had my tubes tied previously which I wonder contributed to the heavy periods. I wasn't uncomfortable after the procedure at all; however, there was bleeding for about 2 weeks afterward which my doctor said was normal. You will still get PMS symptoms but you won't bleed. My doctor recommended this procedure several years before I went ahead with it and I would do it all over again. Good luck to you in your decision J..

I haven't had an ablation and would never consider it. I know a girl who had one when she was a kid: it was extremely painful, she bled a lot, she has had all kind of health problems ever since.
Maybe I am totally confused and we are referring to a different process.
