What does LO stand for? And DD? And DS? I feel either old, or out of the loop. Any other abbreviations you'd like to share that are commonly used on this site? I have a feeling the D and S are daughter and son, but what does the first D stand for...Darling? My dad used to called me his "DD" and it stood for "Darling Daughter." Maybe my dad invented it. :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the leg up! Honestly, and this is not a cut to anyone, but I don't know what has happened to our society where everyone has to abbreviate things. Children are so impatient I've noticed some teenagers TALK this way...and sometimes it takes longer to say the abbreviation than the actual words!!

And me...I think, for me, it's easier to type out a phrase than hit the shift key and think of the abbreviation. Maybe it's a generational thing, I don't know...but it makes me feel old and lost!

Anyhow, TFTH! (Thanks for the help! Hee hee!)

<grinning> As for your update... blame the telegraph AND the appallingly high level of literacy in this country (it used to be only secretaries knew/needed shorthand and it was done in loops and whirls by hand... now everyone uses QWERTY short hand... which is limited to the characters on the keyboard). English has been getting shorter and shorter ever since it's invention. My greatgrandparents, for example, would rap our fingers with wooden spoons for using contractions like can't, shan't, don't, etc. Which is another reminder. Excuse me. Et cetera.

Yes, DD stands for darling daughter or dear daughter. Same goes with DS (darling son or dear son). I don't know what LO stands for! I do know that IMHO stands for "in my humble opinion" (that one took me a long time to figure out)! Oh, and there is CIO, which means "cry it out." I posted a question about CIO b/c it was driving me crazy what it stood for! There are more abbreviations on this site that I cannot figure out, it's aggravating! What are we, psychics??

That whole DD, DS thing (IMO !!) is just gratuitous. Just call them your daughter and son, etc.

I saw BTDT yesterday and almost messaged the mama that wrote it. It took me FOREVER to figure out it meant 'been there, done that"!

THANK YOU so much for asking this question!
I'm glad to know that some of us still appreciate spelling out the whole word.

P.S. (or "postscript"): We're not old. We simply don't like to communicate so casually, right?
