I was always told that you could continue to work out as long as it was the same as what you were doing before you were pregnant. Like don't start a major exercise overhaul now. I did step aerobics until I was like 6-7 months pregnant. I have no idea about the foods though!

Congrats on the pregnancy!

The workout will probably need to change (I'd ask the doc), i wouldn't do soft cheeses because of the bacteria, and I think crab legs are safe because they're cooked. Crab legs, being shellfish aren't safe for young children because of the allergy thing.

There are some types of seafood you are to stay away from and some you should only take in moderation due to mercury levels in the water. Ask your OB and he/she can give you a list. I have not heard anything about cheese. Working out they say swimming and walking and bike riding are the best and my OB has actually said a elliptical is ok because it is low impact. Just be sure to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water even if you do not feel thirsty. You do not have to wait for every 4 week visit to ask questions I call my doctor and the girls in the office are always happy to ask him my questions for me. I am currenty 6 months along and due 3/30. Congrats! (I feel 9 months)

Hi V.,

If you have been working out regularly, you can still continue to work out. The exercise restriction is typically for those who haven't been working out and want to begin a heavy workout routine which may add stress to the body and baby. However, if you have been working out, you can continue to do so. I wouldn't lift any heavy weights though, and listen to your body. Once you get past the first trimester, you may find it a little more difficult to exercise using your regular workout routine, so be sure to scale it down. Regarding the soft cheese, it is okay to eat soft cheese as long as it is pasteurized. Most soft cheeses are NOT pasteurized. That is why it recommended that you stay away from them. However, if you look at the label and see that it is pasteurized, then you are okay to have it. As far as crab legs, do you have any seafood allergies in your family? If not, then you can probably safely have it occasionally. I wouldn't eat it often though. Also, you might want to check out the list of fish which you should avoid during pregnancy. Definitely, no raw fish. Also, when I was pregnant, my OB advised me not to consume deli/sandwich meats due to possible bacterial infection/e.coli contamination, etc. This is also true when consuming any raw foods including salad. Wash your fruits and veggies thoroughly. Be careful with the animals you have in your home. Be sure to have your hubby clean up the litter for all the animals, especially if you have a cat. Have a safe and healthy pregnancy!

I have never heard about not being a to eat it and for Crab leggs, the only think i have heard you should not eat is raw fish like sushi, other then that i think you are good to go but i would make sure to double check with your OB

Hello V.!,

Yes you can work out as long as it is in moderation and you stay out of the Sauna's. I am not real sure what Soft cheese is; I eat whatever I want. If I am not sure about something then I call and either run it by my dr. or by a nurse and see what they say. If you need to contact me and ask more questions feel free at ____@____.com name is J. Hi there. As far as working out, I was told thru both pregnancies that I could do as much as was comfortable (I.E. if it hurts to run then don't). I was also told deff no abdominal workouts. I did things like walking around the block a few times, and walking up and down stairs. This kept me feeling in shape thru my pregnancy. The soft cheese thing I have never heard of that. I ate soft cheeses and never had a problem. Now the crab legs, the main reason they say not to eat seafood is because of the mercury levels. Most if not all seafood has Mercury. The solution is moderation. If you feel as though you just have to have it, have one or two. Do not go and eat a whole plate of them. I did this with tuna fish during my second pregnancy, I craved it, but would only eat about half the can, and only once in a while. I hope this helped and good luck with the pregnancy.

Here's what it seems to me from the information I've gathered (drs, books, internet) 1. work out as usual. don't go overboard or start something harder. listen to your body and slow down when you need to. 2. just make sure the cheese is pasturized. if it's made in the US, it is. it's probably a good idea to stay away from unpasturized soft cheese. I don' tknow about crab leggs, but I ate them...? Look and see if they are likely to have high levels of mercury. Most things are fine in moderation, except things that might carry diseases (Raw anything)..

I dont think that you can work out like normal! Especially lifting weights, nothing over 25 lbs.!! Soft Cheese? Never heard that one before I am pretty sure that you are safe with that. And crab legs you can still eat, they are my favorite too, but I cant even stand the smell of them so good luck!

You will have to modify your work out as you go along. Listen to your body and your doctor on this one. Don't know about the soft cheese but it's true, no shellfish and there's a lot of fish you can't eat now either because of pollution. Shellfish tend to absorb most of the toxins and such (includng mercury) so that's why you're being asked to give it up.

1) yep, you can still work out, just don't push yourself. While you're pregnant you work out to stay healthy and prepare for labor... NOT to lose weight & gain muscle. keep in mind that as your pregnancy progresses, your ligaments will be really stretchy from hormones and it will be much easier to stretch too far and possibly pull something.

2) Soft cheese, any cheese for that matter, is perfectly safe as long as it is pasteurized (all cheese sold in US groceries are), so stay away from homemade cheeses.

3) crab is also safe... just watch how much fish/seafood you eat. No raw fish. Check out this website: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/fishmerc...
I made a little wallet card with this info when I was pregnant and carried it with me everywhere. That way I always knew what fish were safe, what fish to avoid, and how much I could eat. It's really a fantastic reference.

Congrats on your pregnancy & have a happy & healthy 9 months!

Yes, you can work out. They just don't like your heart rate to get too high because likewise, it increases the baby's heart rate which is already beating fast. Also, it decreases blood flow to your uterus and routes it to other muscles. I worked out all through my pregnancy ( I worked out all the time before I was pregnant) and continued to take kickboxing and step class. I just toned it down a bit. Be sure not to get overheated and drink plenty of water.

Congrats on the baby!!
Like the others said, work out the way you did before the pregnancy but make sure you don't overdo it. As you get bigger your body will tell you how much you can handle. Don't ever push yourself.
As for soft cheese and crablegs, the crablegs are fine but I was told to stay away from "fresh" cheese, i.e. camembert, blue cheese, those italian mozarella balls... stuff like that. And of course raw meat, which crablegs are not since they are cooked. Regular soft cheese is also fine. But don't be too concerned, I learned that your body tells you what to do and eat.
The best to you and your family!

Well I never worried about what I ate when I was pregnant. I've never heard of the cheese and the thing about seafood is just to be careful because mercury is sometimes in seafood.

Congrats by the way :) You can work out the way you are used to. But don't push yourself to do more than you are used to.
