My kids are good hiders. :) The dr. couldnt hear the heartbeat or anything til after 12 weeks for both of mine. If he didn't seem concerned, I think it's fine.
I went to the doctor on tuesday and got my first ultra sound, but it was a very short ultra sound, and the dr said that he could not detect a heart beat or any movement. Is it because it was so short that there was no heart beat or what is it?

Congrats... ur ok and the baby is fine she is just too small to c. That happen to me to I was so scared my doctor said she was too small.. its ok best wishes and luck hun..
Try not to worry, when the baby is so tiny it's hard to see these things! I remember with my first baby they did an ultrasound very early on. I still have the picture. My baby looked like a blob. You couldn't see anything - heart, brain, anything! I figured that couldn't be normal, but he told me that it was totally normal at that gestational age. Sure enough, my daughter was born with a heart and brains (in abundance, actually)! ; )
Did you actually have an ultrasound where you "see" the baby, or did you just have the doppler on your tummy where they "listen" to the baby? There's a big difference. If they were just listening for a heartbeat, it's completely normal to not hear it at 9 weeks b/c you're so early...no worries! If you actually saw the baby, they should see a heartbeat by this time & be able to tell you the size & exactly how far along you are (could your timing be off?). At my 9 week appt they couldn't hear the heartbeat, but a few weeks later they could. I wish your doctor had talked to you more & answered your concerns about this--maybe you should call the office & talk to the nurse? Good luck!
You may be a little early to see a heartbeat on the ultrasound. Usually they don't perform 1st ultrasound til 10-11wks. congrats and don't worry! I am sure everything is just fine!!

Was it an abdominal ultrasound or transvaginal ultrasound?
For a transvaginal ultrasound, they should definitely see the heartbeat by 7 weeks at the very latest.
For an abdominal ultrasound, they often can't get very good pictures until a bit later.
Are you positive that your dates are correct? Perhaps you ovulated a couple weeks later than you thought and aren't as far along as you think.
Here's a link from the American Pregnancy Association to tell you the development by week and what you should see on u/s. http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/e... And remember that abdominal ultrasounds aren't nearly as good, so if your ultrasound was only abdominal, then that's probably why they didn't see much.
I would be more concerned that your doctor didn't explain to you what that meant. They know that pregnancy is scaring, I would be very upset if they were like oh, no heart beat, have a nice day. I had an ultrasound (vaginal) at 5wks 5 days and saw a heart beat, too small to measure, but they saw it (I also had a history of problems). If you're going to go to each appointment and leave worried about something not explained that can take ~2mins, I would find another doctor. That being said, unless they're really looking for some reason, at 9wks it isn't unusual to not hear or see the heart beat, especially if its an abdominal ultrasound.
Congrats on your pregnancy! I had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks--vaginally. They saw the heartbeat and I got to hear it. However, I went in for my 8 week appointment and my doctor told me we wouldn't be able to hear a heartbeat with a doppler yet, that we should be able to at my 12 week appt. If you had an actual ultrasound I would think you'd have been able to hear a heartbeat at 9 weeks. If your doctor didn't seem concerned or explain anything to you then I would think they're not concerned. If it IS a red flag and they didn't feel the need to tell you this, then I would definitely find another doctor. Good luck!!
it really depends. it could be that you are not as far along as you thought, it could be the baby was just moving around too much or hiding. it really depends. with my daughter, they could see her on sonogram just fine, but as far as listening to her heart beat with a doppler? no way. i was almost 16 weeks before they could pick it up with a doppler.
It seems there is probably an explanation and the baby is fine, but if I were you, I would call the doctor and explain your concerns. Others asked a good question about whether or not it was vaginal or abdonimal, but I had an abdominal at 8 weeks and could see the heartbeat, but I know that is not always the case, so again, I would call your doctor. There is no need for you to worry and the best way to get answers is to call...you will drive youself crazy with the "what ifs". Did you use this doctor with your first pregnancy? If your doc has a history of being brief maybe you should just chalk it up to what he does, but if you aren't comfortable with his bedside manner, check out other docs!
A normal external ultrasound doesn't pick up heartbeat until about 12 weeks.
My daughter had an ultrasound at 8-9 weeks. Dr. said baby was still too small to see much of anything but the pregnancy is in the correct place. She had a tubal pregnancy earlier this year. Definitely no heart beat. She just has another one this week. I think it's 12 weeks and tho baby is still small and they could see a fetus and heard a heart beat. I suggest you and your baby are fine.
I think your Dr would have told you if there was a concern, if he didn't and there turns out to be an issue he saw and didn't tell you, find a new Dr.
I had an ultrasound around 9 weeks and it was the same thing no movement or heartbeat and my son was perfectly healthy. My Dr actually likes to wait until 12 weeks to do the first ultrasound and that is one of the reasons. He gets a lot of scared mommy's worrying that something is wrong when it's normal. I had a miscarriage the pregnancy before that one so I was really nervous and he did it to calm me down. I think you would feel better if you called the Dr office and speak with a nurse. Hearing someone in that profession who knows what they are talking about is going to make you feel better.
Congrats on your pregnancy!
I think your doctor would be able to explain it better than anyone here. Give him/her a call.
