K.K.
Our 2nd daughter was eating what we were at about the same age. Just be sure it is cut very small! She just wanted what we had, forget the babyfood!
I have a 9 month old who is so interested in eating what were having. He still doesn;t have any teeth so I use one of those mesh bag things where you can put the food in it and they suck on it. What other types of foods can I let him try? He has this gag reflux every once in awhile with a chunkier texture or maybe he is saying he is done.

mashed potatoes, applesauce, mashed up bananas, yogurt, soft things like that..
If you want to try making some foods yourself you could try carrots, zucchini, and broccoli. Boil the carrots until tender, add the broccoli simmer until soft and then add the zucchini. When everything is soft put it in a blender or food processor and blend until it is the texture you want. My son couldn't get enough of it. And it is simple to do when you are making your own lunch or dinner.
I agree with the moms who suggested cheese and bananas. They are great when there aren't any teeth.
Good Luck!
Pancakes worked great for us, as suggested by our pediatrician.
I think that at 9 months we were giving my daughter what we were eating, although she didn't have teeth either. Their little gums get so tough that food won't hurt him. It was so funny to watch her "chew" with no teeth. Of course we avoided anything hard or crunchy, but she ate basically what we were having with some modifications... Have fun! The more he eats now, I think that he will have a broader taste for things later.

Check out wholesomebabyfood.com. They include charts of what foods should be introduced when. It was a great reference for me as a new mom.

My son also had reflux so gagging was an issue. Upon the advice of another Mamasource Mama, we purchased one of the KidCo food mills, and it was awesome. He was able to eat whatever we ate, but in a ground version. Was much simpler than dragging out a blender or food processor, and is portable so we took it with us whenever we ate out. Good luck.
I didn't start giving our daugther any baby food until she was 9 months old. I used one of those bags and they were great. We put avacado, banana, peaches, sweet potato, butternut squash, cooked carrots etc inside. Due to her allergies we introduced things really slow into her diet.
She tended to choke on peas. Green beans were okay provided we made sure all of the strings were off for finger food. Gave her white potatoes, diced small on occasion and she had brown rice. Great for practicing those pincher skills!
Good Luck!
We have tried to give our 10.5 month old something off of our plates at each meal. Whatever is soft and cut small. Otherwise, mini pancakes, biter biscuits with cream cheese, cut up string cheese, those baby meat sticks, beans (yes...beans...yipes!) I also buy canned veggies and cut them up (beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, etc.) they are way cheaper than the cut up "baby" veggie pick ups.
Good luck!
Yogurt, avocado, tofu, cheese, my daughter LOVES Boca Burgers and Morning Star fake chicken nuggets, Cheerios type cereal, cooked lentils, cooked beans (cut in half), brown rice, blueberries cut in half, other berries, really ripe melon, chunks of ripe banana,
really well cooked pasta shells or macaroni, small pieces of soft wholegrain bread. My DD is addicted to Gerber puffs and freeze dried fruits, but we limit those. They are good things to get him started though because they literally melt. Can you do hardboiled egg yolks at 9 months? We did, but I can't remember the age recommendations for that one.
My daughter ate pretty much all of that stuff at 9 months (she is almost 11 months now) and she did not have any teeth. They really don't need teeth to eat solids. They do a great job gumming it.
I got those mesh bags and they worked great but were such a mess to clean that I quit using them for food and now we just fill them with crushed ice for when DD is teething.
At his age he can eat pretty much whatever you guys eat (minus egg whites, honey, etc). I just cook stuff and give DD her portion before hubby and I add any salt, or really hot spices.
Babies at his age will gag, but if you are feeding him safe sized morsels of safe food while he is sitting down in his high chair he will likely not actually choke. It takes them time to get used to eating chunkier foods, the occasional gag is all part of the process.
Forgot to mention that Van's Blueberry Waffles (I get them at Target in the freezer section by vegetarian stuff) are an awesome early food. Perfect texture to gum. They are vegan so you don't have to worry about egg whites and they are really yummy. I toast them and then cut them into 1/2 inch squares. Super easy, quick, always enjoyed breakfast!
