I swear by papaya enzyme. You can buy them in chewables and I got them at Fred Meyers in their organic section. They worked better than tums for me.
Need remedies for heart burn. Taking rolaids, anit acid tabs but can't get rid of it. Get hip cups and then it gets worse.
Thank you for all the suggestions. She's tried several and seems to be working!

Try mixing baking soda and water. About 1 teaspoon to a 4oz glass of water.. I had the same problem and I ate a lot of Tums until someone told me about that, so it may work it did for me..
When i was pregnant, i got it the worst the last month, my midwife told me to lay on my left side! it worked for me!!! good luck.
I had terrible heartburn with both of my girls. My dr. said I could take Tagamet which is an over the counter heartburn medication. It helped tremendously! good luck!
I had BAD heartburn constantly when I was in my 8&9 months, and tried everything. I got a tincture from my midwifes office that a woman had made with herbs. I remember a lot of cinnamon in it. It worked instantly. It was cheap too. Call Around the Circle Midwifery in Olympia and they can tell you who and where to get it. Papaya also helped sometimes if it was not to severe. Hope it helps. Peace Mamas.
I myself had horrible heart burn. Instead of eating big meals have her eat smaller meals more often. That is the really only thing that helped me. But I hate to say if she is already taking antacids (and be careful on which ones she takes) then there is nothing she can do and is just going to have to ride it out. The problem is that the baby is just running out of room and putting pressure on her stomach which is causing the acid to come back up after she eats. If she is already doing these steps and it is not working I really feel for her. Hope you find somthing that helps. Let us know what happens.

Hi N., see if she can take zantac 150mg it helped me. I felt like my chest was on fire from so much heart burn. so see if her dr would let her take that. if not the doc can prescribe her a medication for the heartburn. good luck. the zantac really helped me alot.
my grampa told me to sip a spoonful of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water (6-8oz) and that helped me. i only did it once, but its not bad for the baby so you could try it. its not the greatest but it helped me! good luck!

Mine got a lot better after I stopped eating things with tomato.I hope it helps and good luck.
i got horrible heartburn when i would eat cheese so i had to cut it out completely.
Hate to tell you but I had HORRIBLE heartburn with my 4th child and Nothing helped! Tums helped a little...but not much---and I got those nasty hiccups too!!! I think you'll just have to wait it out!
(I've heard an old wives tale that if you have horrible heartburn your baby will have a lot of hair - and our daughter did! :-) Hopefully that'll make you smile!)
I wasn't into taking medications while I was pregnant so I did a little research and tried pickle juice. Just a shot a day, sometimes 2 if I had eaten something that made it worse. Sounds kind of odd but I guess the viniger is suppose to break down the stomach acid that causes heart burn. I also had a mom on here suggest I give my 4 month old daughter liquid aloe. Not sure on the doseage for an adult but it might also help too. I bet "Wild Oats" or another natural store like that would have some info. I hope one of these will help. It's bad enough just being 8 months pregnant ;0)
I had heart burn right away with my preg and I slept with tums by the bed(I took them too;))and also I would drink club soda with tums and rolaid you have to be careful because you can get really constipated if you take too much so I would alternated with the club soda and actually it worked better sometimes. and if you take the antacids keep some dried apricots or prunes around. good luck
I had really bad heart burn and "all" day sickness with my son the only thing that I found that worked was Aloe. You can get aloe that you drink it's totaly natural and works great email me if you would like some more info on it. It worked so well for me I still take it because it does so much good even for your skin!
I did in fact get horrible heartburn towards the 6 or 7 month of pregnancy. All I did was google "heart burn during pregnancy" and I found a lot of wonderful hits and suggestions! Somethings that I did personally that helped it completely go away were: Eat your last meal at least 3 hours before you go to bed, sleep with your head propped up above your stomach to promote food to not be able to just sit there between your stomach and throat (I just used 2 pillows, especially if I did eat a snack right before bed), and don't eat spicy foods, or acidic foods such as pizza and spaghetti sauce, and even coffee and pop can trigger the acid to give you heart burn, and fatty fried foods are a big "no no!" Once I changed just these few things in my life and diet, I swear to you that the heart burn went away almost entirely for the rest of my pregnancy:) Hope this helps your daughter!
I didnt get heart burn...but when I had my daughter she came out with a full head of hair and everyone asked if I had heart burn bad. Most cases heart burn means a baby with alot of hair. Hope you find something to help
My doctor said Mylanta. :) It worked great for me with both my pregnancies
Eat SMALL meals! Your belly is all squished at 8 months! No spicy food, lots of water, and no tomatoes.
I had aweful heart burn with my son at about that point in my pregnancy. Rolaids and Tums helped the best...I had to eat really tiny meals and follow them up with tums. I kept them in my purse. I tried crackers and such also...never got any heavy duty prescription meds because i didn't want to take any, but nothing got rid of the heart burn completely. I just had to be careful not to eat too much at once...consequently, i was ALWAYS eating. Wish I could be more help. Good luck.
My doctor prescribed my Zantac for my heartburn. Your daughter could also try eating smaller meals more frequently during the day. Things like milk, ice cream, bread also help to calm down heartburn, if it is acid related.
When I was pregnant with my 6 mo old daughter I had horrible heartburn also. The absolute only thing that helped me was sitting up and taking TUMS, the other ant acids did not work, only Tums maximum strength. I had to sleep propped up on pillows so that my heartburn was not as bad during the night. I also had to watch what I ate, nothing with any sort of spicy hint or anything with tomatoes. I hope this helps your daughter, it was the only thing that would help me.
I just gave birth in January. I had such bad heartburn while I was in my last trimester that Dr. Winn put me on Prevacid. The Rolaids hadn't worked, neither had the OTC pills that she OK'd. The Prevacid REALLY worked.
I suffered horribly when I was pregnant with both of my kids. I swore by papaya (sp) chewables. I got them at the health food store. Didn't taste bad and worked wonders! Good Luck.
Papaya enzymes. You can get them at any grocery store in the vitamin section. They work great, just keep a bottle of them in your purse.
Tell her to chew gum. Sugar free so it won’t hurt her teeth. It keeps the saliva flowing and you swallowing so the rest of your digestive system starts up too. It helps food move through your cramped system better and keeps acid down. Also ginger, lemon, and peppermint are great digestive aids. Hope this helps and good luck.
I'm a grandma too. Isnt it wonderful! I've never been pregnant but I do have GERD. Can she take Prilosec? It's worked wonders for me.
My mother used a gum that was specifically formulated for heartburn. I don't remember it's name and it may not still be available but as I remember it helped.
And has she tried the usual things such as not eathing for a couple of hours before lying down and eliminating acid producing foods from her diet? Or, if this happens mainly at night, to raise up the head of her bed?
HI. I had the worst heartburn when i was pregnant! My Doctor told me to take zantac 75. It helped soooooo much! I think i took 2. I cant remember. Hope this helps.

I have 2 kids and with both pregnancies I had severe heartburn. I would definitely talk to your doctor about it. They actually perscibed Raditatine?(not sure on spelling)in persription strength. It did not harm the babies at all. Both were and are very healthy with no problems what so ever. If you plan on continuing antacids, just remember to drink lots of water. I made that mistake and ended up getting kidney stones. Not pleasent for anyone, especially when your pregnant!! Anyway, I hope all goes well for you and this advice helps. Many blessings!!

I'm sorry I can't offer much advice for you daughter. At this stage of pregnancy I had awful heartburn too and it kept me up all night. I tried to eat very small meals and slept sitting up a little and that helped some. It'll be over soon, I guess some of us just have a harder time with it.
I noticed someone else already mentioned baking soda. I had heartburn with all 4 of my pregnancies. I could not stomach the Tums for some reason. If I took 1/2 tsp of Baking Soda and mixed it into a 1 cup measure of water each day, it kept me from getting that all day kind of heart heartburn. You should not do this right after eating though as it has a very alkaline effect and will subdue the stomach acids. Take the baking soda in the evening about an hour before laying down for bed (when heartburn really hurts!). Towards the end of my pregnancies I would also take it before breakfast in the morning.

I have GERD and was on prescription Prilosec but once my husband and I decided to have a baby I had to stop taking it. My doctor advised me I can take Pepcid AC and it will not harm the baby at all. I would discuss it with your OBGyn first by all means but I take two pills in the morning and two at night now and during my first pregnancy and everything was fine :) Good luck
ALTOIDS!!!! The reason that restaurants give out peppermints after your meal is because the peppermint oil counteracts the stomach acid. I had heart burn reeeeeeeeeeeeally bad with my daughter. She ended up having Reflux when she was born & had to be on a liquid form of Zantac. It was like straight peppermint syrup. She is 3 1/2 now & eats Altoids like they're going out of season! It helps! Try it.
I hope that the heartburn is better. I saw that there were many responses to your request so I won't offer any heartburn help but I wanted to say that when I was pregnant I also suffered from heartburn. I would eat tums like they were candy to help. Unfortunately for me, after my son was born, between the pressure of the baby & the overdosing of calcium, I ended up with an 11mm kidney stone & had to have lithotropsy to take care of it. My recommendation is to take it easy with the calcium fortified remedies. Good luck!
i had terrible heartburn all through my pregnancy with my now 6 month old. and one thing that helped some was eating a little dish of vanilla ice cream before bed... so i wouldnt wake up feeling terrible in the middle of the night.
and she came out with a bunch of hair too. :)
Hey N.-
You have probably already gotten alot of advice for your daughter, but with all of my pregnancies I suffered with really bad heart burn also. The only thing that really ever helped me was a tall cold glass of milk. I had tried all of the OTC stuff and none of it helped like the milk. Hope this helps a little bit.

Mint, mint tea, mint candy ( starlights ) I am 37 weeks preggo myself with my number 2, I have acid reflux w/o being preggo, so I know the pain, mint is a natural remidy for stomache probs, also if it is night time have her lie on her left side, lots of water it helps break down the acid in your tummy also the advice about smaller meals is great too!
I got this bad when I was pregnant!! The doctors told me it was Acid reflux. When I would get it, it would hurt to do anything especialy lay flat. So ask your OB they will be able to tell you what to take, or have them perscribe something stronger that is what I had to do
I had the same problem when I was pregnant with my first child. The problem isn't too much acid - it's too LITTLE acid. I was eating tums like candy. It did no good. I ended up with calcium deficiencies and other problems because I wasn't digesting my food properly. Try downing a tablespoon of vinegar during the next heartburn episode. If it's better afterwards, you have too LITTLE acid. I will bet you that it's too LITTLE acid. If it's worse, you have too MUCH acid. This is a great little test. You can buy digestive aids - stomach acid aids at Seattle Super Supplements - the people there can help you out. The nice thing is, none of this will be harmful to your baby.
I drank milk for my pregnancy heartburn.
