Could someone share an 8 month old feeding schedule? I am at a lost. She has allergies so we have been going slow, however she liked rice cereal and now doesn't. What's going on. She seems to fuss now through it, instead of enjoying it. I really thought she would love to eat! Thanks

What can I do next?

i had similar experience - my pediatrician recommended mixing chicken broth with the rice cereal, rather than formula. I would also add veggies, ie peas, to it and that seemed to work.

Trust your childs tastes, especially if she has allergies. My son, now 11, would sometimes eat certain foods, but often not and when I would push it he would have an allergic reaction. It seems that combinations of foods mattered as well for him. In the end, I let his tastes guide me. I was not worried about what other children were eatting, let him "off the hook" when dinner was something he didn't want (homemade chicken soup was one of them) and he outgrew all his food sensitivities.

Hi,
Im a mother of 2. I have a 2year old girl and a 8 month old boy. I always made homemade food becasue I think you get more for your money and my kids tend not to fuss at all.
WHat Im feeding my 8 month old son now is:
Carrots, Sweet Potatos, Peaches, Bananas,Apples, green beans, Rice cereal, Papaya, Pears, some times when I know he's not to hungry Ill give him cherios.
I sometimes mix like 2 cubes of apple with 3 cubes of bananas. HE LOVESSSS it!!! Then I give him a 3-4oz bottle.

I hope this helps ;-)

It sounds like your baby just may not be ready. My son was not ready to eat cereal until he was 7 months old. At about 8 months he tried it again, and was a little more accepting of it, but some babies like it earlier, and some do not. ti is probably a texture thing. Don't worry, she's getting all the nutrients she needs through formula or breastmilk.

In addition our son did not want solid food (non-baby food) at all until he was a little over one. After we introduced baby food, he would not eat anything else but purees, like applesauce, squash, carrots, ect until he was about 14 months, other than the occational dry cheerio. We skipped the stage two foods, he did not like those at all. but once he started eating more real food, at about 15-18 months, we finally got rid of all those baby food jars.

Today he's five and eats everything, except for peanuts and tree nuts, which he is allergic too. Maybe that had something to do with it, we will never know.

My daughter didn't really start eating regularly until she was 11 months. If you are breastfeeding your baby is getting loads of nutrients. A few things my daughter enjoyed were sweet potatoes (mashed of course), banana and pear (pear is very close in molecular structure to breast milk), chewing on a raw carrot (be sure to supervise since little chunks could cause choking...we never had a problem though) and finely grated raw apple. My daughter was a real carnivore and loved eating meat. Rice is pretty bland for babies. Trust her and never force her to eat please! Fruits, provided they are organic, not conventional produce that's full of herbicides and pesticides, are full of nutrients and enzymes and babies love them. As they age, they will accept more food. The taste buds prefer sweet at that age. In Germany it is very popular to give spinach (cooked) to babies and they all love it with the exception of my daughter who hated it! She's always preferred her veggies raw.

Another thing you might want to consider detoxifying her. If you have amalgam fillings or had the Rhogam shot some of the mercury contained in your body will have gotten passed on to the baby and that can disturb the immune system which in turn can cause allergies. Watch the ten minute video to see sources of toxins and why this is important for us and our children:

A good detox will help the immune system and many children overcome allegies, ADD, etc just by doing this.

Hello Alison S,

First I recommend you check with your babies doctor before you diagnose the health concerns.

Babies are people too -- we don't like the same kind of food all the time. Hence, with the guidance of the doctor, introduce different kind of food products to your baby. In tasting the different flavor of food, your baby will learn and develope a normal eating habit.

My son is 7 months old and has severe food allergies (soy, dairy, wheat, eggs, nuts...)so I know the apprehension. I give him the same food once a day for a week to make sure that there is no allergy. We started with rice cereal, then peas, squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, pears, bananas, apples, peaches, zucchini, avacados and white potatoes. It's a long, long, long process when they have allergies! My son LOVES to eat, but he doesn't like to eat the same thing everyday so by day 6 of a new food, he isn't as excited to eat it anymore. So I mix it with different food, change the texture, add cereal some days, serve the food cold, or hot, or room temperature. I think serving a variety is what keeps him interested, especially through the long introduction of new foods!
At typical day for him is bottle and cereal/fruit for breakfast, lunch is veggies/fruit and a bottle, dinner is veggies/cereal/fruit and a bottle. He gets a bottle in between each meal and a sippy cup with water at point during the day.
Also, becuase of his allergies, we have decided to go organic with his foods. I make about 75% homemade, and supplement with store bought.
Good luck!

hi allison;

don't get frustrated; 8 mo old is still very young to be interested in food. but it is a great opportunity to introduce flavorful foods; think about yourself being shown plain rice cereal. blah! try yummy vegetables that you yourself would like, as the others have said; yams, very well steamed carrots, peas... nice bread to chew on is also good.

don't feel that you have to puree the foods just because everyone else does. neither of my children ever ate pureed food, they just didn't go for it. as soon as i offered whole pieces of food they could pick up and eat themselves, like the bread, large chunks of melon or banana, chunks of chicken which they love to chew like crazy, they were much more intersted. remember if they are old enough to pick it up they are old enough to eat it in most cases.

good luck!

Hi Alison, I have raised 5 and they are all grown now. Do you give baby some applesauce with the cereal? I think, even though you are going slow, some fruits and veggies should be introduced (one at a time)the different flavors will spark some new interest. Also consider the possibility of teething. This could make baby not want to eat. My best, Grandma Mary
