My son would not drink from sippy cups either but he would drink from any cup with a straw. Therefore, I got him the cups with a straw that are spill proof and he was off the bottle and on that sippy cup at 9 months.
Hello!!!
Well... I have bought three sippy cups for my 8 month old daughter, the first one I bought when she was 6 months and she couldn't drink from it, I gave it to her over and over and she just bit it then it was the same way with the other two, one is the Nuk, one is Gerber and I forgot which was the other one!! But anywho, she never learned to suck it but instead she has learned to drink from a regular cup and she has mastered that but of course shes 8 months old and will not hold an opened cup like that to drink it and I do want her to drink by herself (she holds her milk bottle)
SO my question is...... what cups are there that aren't so spill proof or ones that come out alot easier?? I really dont wanna buy another cup and it end up in the recycling bin so any suggestions??

My son just turned 9 1/2 months, and we were having the same problem. At first, he would only drink out of the Playtex cups with the valve removed. We tried the Take and Toss cups, and he loves them. They have no valve so it is easy for them to drink out of. At this age, my daugter (now 3) would also only drink from a straw cup so with her we used the Take and Toss cups with straws.
take the valve out of the other ones. Keep offering it to her. She will eventually take it. It just takes a little time.
Please contact my good friend, Sally...she sells great sippy cups that Do NOT LEAK! They are kind of like a sports bottle, but not like an open cup or a sippy cup either! Her email is: ____@____.com is in north Corinth.
Hi Liz! Neither one of my kids wanted a sippy cup this young. I think it's ok to try starting them on a cup, but some just might not want one this early--so just keep trying. Keep even the cups she hates now bc in a month or two, she may like them!! Good Luck! :) C.
Try Take and Toss (I think by The First Years). As someone else mentioned...there isn't a valve in it so liquid comes out without sucking. And it actually does a good job of not leaking, too. I also took the valve out of some cups like a previous post suggested.
I've had the same problem too and have been trying the sippy cup since 7 mths of age. My almost 10 mth old just took 1 oz. yesterday for the first time ever from the 4th sippy cup that I've bought and tried without the valve. A friend's baby learned to use a sippy at 10 mths, and she thinks that it's something they learn about that age but said to keep giving it to them before then.
I like this cup so far, and it doesn't leak as much without the valve; My other cups just pour out when turned upside down, but this one not as much. It's called Gerber "Soft Starter Spill Proof Cup", and I got it a Walgreens.
At that age, my son liked to drink out of those plastic disposable sippies. They're cheap and don't have valves so that's a plus for you. He also liked the Nuby which has a rubbery tip and, again, no valve. I think both are available at either Target or Walmart.
Nuby makes a sippy cup with a soft spout. I started out on these with our now 4 yr old daughter. She loved them at 9 months old, and by her 1st bday she had transformed to the "hard" spout cups. Good luck to you...just remember each child is different, and will do things differently than some others.
Blessings,
~S
Could you just take the stopper out of the sippy cups you already have. That's how I got my boys used the sippy cups. The liquid comes out much faster, but if your daugher knocked it over, it wouldn't spill as quickly.
