? 7Month Old Baby & Shoes ???

I am hearing conflicting advice on when to put shoes on my 7 month old...
I have heard; don't put shoes on babies when they are learning to walk. I have also heard; put shoes on them while they learn to walk to help "form" their feet???
I will definately invest in the proper shoes - what is the proper shoe for a baby who is learning to walk. Don't get me wrong, he is not walking at 7 months but he wants to stand up on his own and loves to "walk" while we hold his hands... He is on the go!

I think proper baby shoes, formula, diapers, bra's & tampons should be provided by the government - who's with me!!! LOL

I appreciate everyone's response and opinions.

thX,
R. ~

no shoes are best to help them develop balance and prevent foot problems. If it's cool socks with tred on the bottom are a good option. The only time shoes are necessary is if you need to protect their feet from what ever they are walking on. In that case go with a soft shoe like a Robeez (sp?) until they are really moving and need more support. Robeez are also great for keeping socks on when it's cool.

My daugher didn't wear shoes until she was walking. Barefoot is best but non-skid socks are also okay. My daughter used to take or one or both of her socks so she was usually barefoot. Used shoes aren't recommended because you want the shoes to conform to your son's feet, not someone else's.

At this point, the only reason your son needs shoes is to keep his toes from freezing as it gets colder. The only thing he needs is a shoe that is warm (weather-proof) enough for the season.

we went barefoot or socks until our daughter walked. we used Robeez soft shoes a little beforehand because we were given some as gifts and they were cute, but didn't buy any shoes until she started to walk. even at home still we go barefoot or socks. we save the shoes for outdoor play etc.

Shoes are mostly for decoration prior to walking. Once they are walking, it is important to keep thier feet safe from the environment(gravel, hard ground cover etc). Robeez are great and some other brands not mentioned that have soft soles are "See Kai Run's" and "Preschoolian's'. They have a more toddler/less baby sort of style. We has to use these brands because my son just didnt take to the transition to hard sole shoes.

the thing that is great about robeez is they keep your child's foot warm expecially since we are heading into winter soon. summer babes can go barefoot more often obviously. so for a non walking baby but a standing baby the robeez provide warmth and protection if nothing else. socks are kinda slippery so i rarely use only socks. once your babe starts walking i recommened see kai run's. soft sole yet supportive. greast tranisition from barefoot to robeez to see kai run. good luck!

I agree with the other mom about the Robeez, but really no shoes is better until they are walking outside. You can buy the socks with the no-skid bottoms. Also, when he is ready to start walking, invest in some good shoes from Stride Rite. They will measure their feet and get the right type of shoe based on him pre-walking etc...

R.,

I always just let my son go barefoot if it wasn't cold or put socks with the non-slip things on the bottom. When he was about 10 mos I started putting pedi-peds on him. They are great shoes for babies/toddlers and have just enough support to protect their feet but will not harm them. Good luck to you~

Everything I've read says no hard-sole shoes until they're walking. But then, I was a baby in the early 70s and wore hard sole shoes from the beginning and turned out fine and so did my friends, so who knows.

With both of my kids, we stuck with the Robeez soft sole shoes when they were babies. They keep their feet warm and offer some protection as they're moving around, but the sole is very flexible and the shoe isn't confining.
