My 7 year old has had soft stool BMs multiple times a day for the last 5 days. Getting up 4 times last night to go...I guess it's diariah, though it's not "soup" as my husband called it...

She is complaining her stomach hurts and gets some relief by having a BM.

We have tried Pepto...but that only seems to help a tiny bit. I just bought some amodium for her, but reading on here...it seams maybe I shouldn't give it to her...

She doesn't have any other symptoms...her appitite is normal...what could it be and how can I help her feel better?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the help so far. Let me clear up something though...I did give her Pepto, but the KIDS kind...I would NEVER give anything that wasn't age appropriate, but thank you for your concern, cause you never know. :)

I am going to try the BRAT diet for a few days and see how it goes...

Pepto is not recommended to be given to kids under 12 years old.
Our Pediatrician also said this.

Take your child to the Doctor.

My 3 year old recently went through the same thing a couple of weeks ago. The pedi said it's a viral bug that may take a couple of weeks to resolve completely. We did modified BRAT diet - basically foods that are easy to digest and stay away from lots of sugary or greasy foods, as well as yogurt twice a day with added probiotic you can get in any pharmacy. Stay away from milk for a while, even when the poops starts to look ok, give it a few extra days because milk is hard on the stomach. Unless she develops other symptoms, this should clear within a couple of weeks.

Don't give her Pepto or Immodium without knowing what she has. Don't even give her the children's formulas. I hope you're not giving her the adult formulas.

She's been going through this for five days? It could be an intestinal virus. I would make sure she drinks plenty of fluids and avoid anything sugary, especially soda and juice. She can have rice, pasta, broth, Saltine crackers, toast, water, drinks with electrolytes, even chicken noodle soup.

Check her temperature too, and encourage her to get some rest. It couldn't hurt to let the pediatrician know what's going on and for how long, and see if he wants to see her. They may simply confirm that "something is going around" and tell you what to look for in case of an emergency.

Try having her eat some Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast (BRAT diet) to try to help firm her up.
A little bit of yogurt might help to restore some intestinal balance.
My son gets something like this once or twice a year and the doctor thinks it's a very mild irritable bowel thing that just flairs up for no particular reason.
It's not a stress thing (before or after big tests) and there's no food trigger we can figure out - there's no particular season - it can happen any time.
It's getting less frequent as he gets older - we're hoping he outgrows it completely at some point.
When he has an attack, a warm bath and a heating pad afterward seem to help ease the cramps and discomfort and he's fine again within a day.
