B..
If it aint broke, don't fix it!
I know every little thing worrys you. If he gets a cough, then call the doc.
If he has a stuffy nose and is still sleeping that well..I can't believe he has a cold.
Recently my wife and I had a small case of the cold and our son caught it. So far he hasn't seen any decrease in his food intake or wet diaper production. HIs breathing isnt to obstructed or wheezey. My only concern is he sleeping longer during the day and for even longer hours at night. He usually gets settled around 12-1AM and doesnt stir till 7-8am. His appetite is huge and will eat double his normal amount. Did we just get lucky or should we be concerned.
I figured as much that he was fine but hey doesn't hurt to ask. As far as the sleep time we try and try to settle him down for the night around 8ish begin with a nice bath and full tummy but he just loves to be peak and happy. We are trying to "keep" him awake during the day but also allowing him to sleep. He was almost 12lbs last doc visit. Thank you all.

My oldest son started sleeping through the night (around 9-530 or 6) at around 6 weeks. Sometimes you just get lucky.
These don't sound related. It sounds like he caught a cold, and around the same time he settled into a wonderful sleeping pattern -- something lots of parents would pay a king's ransom for. You've already established that he has a great appetite -- just make sure he's wetting his diapers on schedule and seems as alert as ever. If the answer to both is yes, you're golden.
My first pedi told me that babies can sleep though the night (6-7 hours) at six weeks and 10 lbs. So sit back and enjoy sleeping at night again.
You're lucky. Don't look a gift baby in the mouth. :-)
He's growing most likely. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth if all other activities are normal.
Well, I would say you were luckier if he were sleeping from 9:00 - 6:00. He's going to sleep pretty darn late. I'd shoot for an earlier bedtime.
My question to you is how much he weighs. If he is over 12 pounds, he doesn't need a night feeding and should be able to sleep at least 7 hours at a time, especially if he is bottle fed. (I'm assuming he is bottle fed since you know how much he's eating.) Of course, just because he doesn't NEED a night feeding doesn't mean that he won't at some point want one. Once you start giving him one, it's hard for him to do without it.
At his age, his tummy gets bigger and he will eat more. So don't be concerned about that. He is likely also more "settled" now that he's not a newborn anymore, so he's sleeping more. Little babies need to sleep. You are so lucky that his nose isn't stopped up. If it gets to the point that it is, you need to make sure you get instructions from the doctor. Also, sitting him up in his carseat so that he's not laying flat would help (you put the carseat in the crib.) Hopefully, you won't have to...
By the way, mine slept through the night once they were at 12 pounds (with my ped's approval.) The only thing that I think you need to work on with your baby is getting him settled earlier. Try 10 - put him down with a full tummy, groggily awake, and walk out of the room. Let him cry some so that he learns to allow himself to fall asleep. Learning to self-soothe is wonderful for baby and family.
He caught your cold? What are his symptoms if he didn't get those you listed? What's "sick" about him...?
I'd be worried, I'm just that way. Take him to the doc and have them test him for RSV. That is similar to a cold. Just be cautious.
No need to be concerned.
But also don't be surprised if it doesn't last.
Sleeping patterns can change drastically throughout the 1st year of infancy, depending on growth spurts, teething, and all the other things going on developmentally.
Keep doing what you're doing. :) Congrats on your baby!
Yep, our daughter started sleeping like that at about that age (6 weeks) . Not a problem.. That is also when I started giving her formula, because I was about to go back to work. I thought it had something to do with her feeling fuller on the formula..
I'd say you got lucky. My younger two babies both slept 8 hours at night by 6-7 weeks old. I'm convinced it was making up for my oldest who didn't sleep through the night until he was 19 months old.
7 weeks mine slept well. Once they were older they started every 2 hours, until about 17 months or so!!
My kids started sleeping 8 hours at 5 weeks. By 10, they were doing 11.
I wouldn't be concerned. It sounds developmentally right to me.
Not a concern, enjoy the extra sleep! My son has always slept alot more when he is sick or teething, it's just the body's time to heal and recuperate. As long as he is eating/peeing/pooping, don't worry about it. I definitely consider us lucky, instead of being up all night not feeling well with a cold or teething pain, he just sleeps it off. Congratulations on the new addition!
A million parents are struggling right now with this and are pea green with envy! The cold might have precipitated the sleep pattern, but if it continues, you are just darn lucky! As long as he is thriving, why rock the boat?
Thank your lucky stars. My daughter began sleeping like that at 6 or 7 weeks by design. Most people work really hard for that 6-7 hour stretch.
Merry Christmas.
:)
It's normal that a 7 week old should be sleeping longer stretches at night. Really, there's no reason that a baby of normal birth weight and no major medical problems shouldn't be sleeping through the night at that age. You're doing it right! ;) Also, if I could just share a tip that I learned with my second child (I wish I'd known it with my first): put him down for the night no later than 7pm - and go for 6pm if you can. For whatever reason, between 6-7pm is the magic bedtime for babies where they will sleep ALL the way through the night (like 10-12 hours). If you put him down later, he won't sleep as well or for as long.
He is fine. My first slept 14 hours from three weeks on. Ate like a champ during the day. Count your blessings
