my daughter is wanting another pool party for her upcoming 6th birthday. We did a pool party last year also, so this year I'm wanting to change it up a little. Last year we allowed each kid to decorate his/her own cupcake and we served hot dogs, with optional chili, chips, fruit and juice boxes/water. This year I'm planning just do an actual cake, daughter has mentioned serving nachos, this sounds okay to me but wanted to get an outside opinon. What will go with nachos, maybe fruit again? I'm also thinking about possible snow cones.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone, it seems as if my orginal ideas were good ones. For the fruit, I think I will make fruit kabobs, thanks for that idea. Looking forward to having a great party! I will keep reading reviews, as more great ideas may turn up :-).

The nachos idea is so much fun! I think that it would probably be easiest just to do fruit with them. You could have stuff to make mini tacos too, but that just becomes overly complicated. Snow cones would also be a fun thing...nothing more refreshing when it is crazy hot out! I think you are right on track! :)

Whenever we have company over to swim (kids), I always set out some watermelon. You can do 1/4 slice wedges if you want. But since it is a small group of very close friends and they're all kids and have been in the pool swimming non-stop and are about to hop right back in, I usually just cut it up into cubes and put it out in a couple of bowls. They use their hands, or if you trust them enough, you can put out toothpicks. Same thing with fresh pineapple. You could make skewers if you want, but be careful if your 6 year old group includes more than 1 boy. You will likely end up with sword fights, lol.

I also set out a big bowl of pretzels, either sticks or the smaller size regular kind. They are always GONE by the time the guests leave. --it's easy, and no mess. Just dump the bag out in a plastic serving bowl.

Kids love to make fruit kabobs. You can use bananas, grapes, berries, pineapple chunks, cantaloupe, marshmallows(limited supply--2-3 each),peaches, or whatever you can find that sounds good. Wooden skewers come in pkges. of 50 or 100. Just make sure everyone washes their hands before they eat, since they'll be picking it all up with their hands.

I'd stick to as much finger food as possible. Melon kabobs sounds like a great idea and the melons have been really sweet this year.
Watermelon and cantaloupe chunks on a stick would be easy to put together. The kids are young, I wouldnt recommend grapes just because it could create a choking problem with lots of rambunctious kids.
If it were me, I'd order some pizzas. I suppose a crockpot full of cheese sauce and paper plates full of chips would go over just as well tho. Sounds like a fun time. I wish I was 6!

Let them make their own tacos--
soft shell taco, ground beef, lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese and sour cream--they'll have a ball!
A party should always provide a meal---personal option.
