I always went to payless-my son needed extra wides and they were the only reasonably priced store that sold them.
Mamas & Papas -
By way of follow up, need to get DS some new shoes as his old ones are worn. I thank those who responded to my earlier question. I get it, shoes will be a struggle. We'll just have to get him to keep them on.
Meanwhile, can you recommend some good brands/ online shops for a size 6.5 W? what are your favorite sources for toddler boy shoes.
Thanks,
F. B.

I second the New Balance sneakers. My little ones have wide feet and New Balance comes in wide. They seem to do great with them. And my 2 year old little guy wears Crocs in the summer, which I was worried about in the beginning because i Thought he'd have trouble with them. But he seems great with them. Good luck.
My daughter had wide little flinstone feet. Her feet were wide width and wide from the bottom of her feet to the top. I used Robeez or brands like them for as long as possible. From then on it was stride rite. (We tried some Payless shoes and they just didn't seem to fit her right). Stride Rite was the only brand I found that fit her feet properly. Fortunately, we have an outlet store nearby, so I was able to save a little money on them.
Stride Rite, Clarks. I would not buy childrens shoes on line. Children need to have their feet measured and shoes fitted.
payless is the only place around here that
1. still sells half sizes in the store
2. offers wide width
Online try: Joes New Balance Outlet. They have kids shoes in widths up to X Wide and Mens up to 6E. Pretty good prices on lots of styles also.
Payless has a lot of wide shoes but you can't always find the size you need at the store. You can shop online at payless.com and have them shipped for free to the store. I use to order a couple different sizes for my Flintstone footed grandson, had him try them on in the store, and then returned the ones that didn't fit on the spot right at the store.
See Kai Run has a lot of shoes. You can look at their website and see who sells them around you. I know Nordstrom here does. They don't come in wide, but they are wide if you get the loafer style and not the bowling style. They come both ways. Both of my kids had wide fat tall feet, and these were all that I could find to fit. Even Robeez were too small for them. They are having a sale right now too!
I have only found wide width shoes at Stride Rite. They are a little pricy but worth the cost. You can find them on-line too.
Also try Zappos - they sometimes carry kids' shoes in wide widths - and carry name bramds! (free shippping - both ways if you need to return)
I always bought my kids Stride Rite shoes. They are worth the extra money and I know they carry a wider range of sizes than just about anywhere else.
My son wore stride rite extra wide until 5. Then Vans.
My son has always worn a wide shoe becuae he has a high instep. I hated spending a fortune on them since he's always been a big kid (he's 5'11" and turns 13 in a few weeks) and goes through 2 shoe sizes a year most years. The outlets about a hour from my house have a stride rite outlet store. The manager told me when they get their stock of hte new line of shoes so they have the msot sizes & varieties. When my son was a toddler It used to be end of July and end of January. They usually only had 2 (out of 15+) styles in extra-wide sizes but I was able to get them for less than half price at the outlets (I also used a coupon). Often times I'd buy the current size and one size up to save the trip in 5 months.
Good luck mama!
