I am only six and a half weeks pregnant. I am a very small person so it's pretty obvious, but I have quite a pooch going already! I know it's not baby since the baby is the size of a sesame seed! Not to mention my uterus is still down in my pelvic region. I've heard you show quicker with the second (third, fourth, etc) since your uterus is already stretched out, but come on! Is this normal?! How quickly did you other mamas start to show with your second pregnancies? Any advice/feedback would be great!
Thanks for your input mamas! I feel better about my poochy belly now. I figured it was probably bloating. Darn hormones! ;)

I was about 8 wks when I started showing with my first. I was small like you. (I am barely 5ft2 and wore a size 4 at the time) and it is very common for smaller women to show earlier, plus it just depends on the woman. My cousin is my size (or my prepregnancy size lol) and is about 14wks along and she looks like I did at 10wks. and my mother who was also small didnt show when she was pregnant with my intill she was 7mnths along. so everyone is different

I started wearing maternity pants at about 8 wks. But people didnt really notice until I was 16 wks, I to am a small person but I guess I hid it well. But yes most people do show sooner with their second (plus) pregnancy. Don't worry, embrass maternity clothes or atleast a belly band.

I'm 37.5 weeks into my second preg now, and I was full-on showing and in maternity clothes at 10weeks with this one. I'm also small - 5'2", so there was no hiding it!

It's due to bloating cause by hormones. I had it with this pregnancy (I'm 36 weeks) and my first. I didn't really start showing with baby until about 16 weeks. Having a girl, and am proportioned differently this time around. Hope this helps!

Yep, I was wearing maternity clothes much, much earlier on with our second child. Totally normal to get a bump that early. I seriously expanded about a week after the positive pregnancy test. It was crazy!

Same as many below--I showed much sooner. In fact, everything happened sooner: the nausea, the joint pain, the heartburn and the bigger tummy. My first, I wasn't in real maternity pants until 14 or 15 weeks, but this time around, I needed them by the time I was 10 weeks. Everything feels about 1-2 months earlier than my first pregnancy. I have heard it's mostly hormonal and bloating that early on too, so you could try the stretchy pants and belly band route with flowy tops for a few weeks. Good luck!

It is true, your body relaxes the ligaments sooner, and you show earlier. You may waddle sooner too and notice more of the ligament related things, like pregnancy related carpel tunnel type sensations.

Yup, same here. I showed MUCH earlier with my second. I thought it was because I got pregnant when my first was only 7 months! But now I realize that most women show earlier with the second.

I'm currently 20 wks with my third and I started wearing maternity pants at 8 wks! I feel as though I'm already starting to waddle some too. Everything seems to be happening sooner.

You certainly show a lot quicker with the 2nd. I just under 10 wks with my 2nd now & I've been wearing my maternity pants for 3 weeks. I'm a small person too, 4'10", so I couldn't hide it if I wanted too. Everything is just all stretched out so don't worry too much about it. Congrats!

Well everyone is just different. I am a very small person I wear size 0 or 2 in pants and with my second I didn't show any sooner and didn't start wearing maternity pants until like 5 or 6 months. I felt like i was pretty much the same as with my first and maybe even a little smaller. But everyone is so different. I have heard of girls that took forever to show with their first and then with their second pretty much started showing by the time they took a pregnancy test. LOL You might have a little pooch now but it could just stay that way for a while and then you won't end up looking any bigger this time around.

There can be both muscle and structural reasons why this pregnancy is showing earlier. My concern is not so much about appearances or clothing as it is about your comfort.
Something that I feel is important for all women to know is that while you are pregnant your body produces hormones that soften your ligaments so that joints are more flexible. This offers women many advantages and some disadvantages if you do not manage your body and posture well. I had a pretty serious case of scoliosis and a lot of back pain when I was young. But, when I had my son, I saw a chiropractor regularly and she was able to straighten my spine. While the joints are flexible from the pregnancy, a chiropractor can adjust you and re-align you as if you were a young child.
Many women are not aware of this issue. When the ligaments start to harden after the birth, the abdominal muscles are like jelly and women are often not careful about their posture. Without proper care, it is easy for the joints to settle into positions that curve the spine or throw the pelvic region forward, etc. This can be a reason for the second pregnancy to show earlier.
Unfortunately, I did not discover this until just after my son was born. I showed and developed the 'prego-waddle' by the time I was 2 months, even though it was my first child. Knowing what I know now, I would have started seeing the chiropractor as soon as I knew I was pregnant.
One of the advantages of chiropractic, I have learned, is not just about bones and muscles. When the spine is not well aligned, it inhibits free flow of information through the nervous system. The information flowing from body to brain and brain to body is necessary for the body to maintain its health and well-being. Keeping those lines of body communication open during pregnancy can only benefit both mother and baby. I understand it can also help prepare the mother's body for an easier birthing experience.
I don't know why this is not something that has become widely understood. All young women should know about this before they get pregnant so they can take full advantage.
So, I know for sure that if I were in your place today, I would start searching for a good and trustworthy chiropractor. I know there are some excellent ones in the area you live in. I grew up near there. I know one in House Springs and one in Fenton. There is a really excellent one, Dr. Louis Perretta, in Crestwood, that might be worth the drive.

I found out I had torn my stomach muscles some with my first pregnancy when I started showing by 5wks with this one. I went to the doctor and they looked closer and were like, oh around your belly button, the muscles tore apart (happens), don't worry we can fix you with your c-section (I have to have one for other reasons). I've seen lots of women by 5-6 wks showing with #2, sorry.
