My son did/does the same thing. We moved him into his own room at around 4 weeks b/c it was so loud. He does it a lot when he's stretching out as he falls asleep and as he's waking up. I think it's normal!
Hello, I have a 6 week old son and ever since we brought him home he grunts all the time. I thought he would have out grown it by now but he is still grunting. He mostly grunts when he sleeps or when he is about to wake up, but, he grunts the most around 4 am and that stinks for me because I am so tired and I can't sleep when he is grunting. I was just wondering if anyone else's child did this and what you did for them! Thank you!

I, too, have a 6 week old son. He grunts in his sleep all the time. My almost 4 year old daughter grunted so much that we moved her into her own room at this age. I think we will keep our new baby in our room a while longer since his grunting isn't bothering my sleep too much, and he has reflux so we are keeping him in an upright position (chair, swing, etc.) to sleep instead of in his crib. But don't worry about the grunting, we have lots of it at our house! I remember thinking that it was hard to get a baby monitor set to the right level to pick up crying, but not grunting. When we moved our daughter out, her big sister was far enough away that she wasn't bothered by night crying. Now, though, our two girls share a room next to where the baby will sleep, which is another reason why I don't want him to go there and wake and cry just yet. Good luck!
Is your son sleeping in the same room as you? My daughter was still grunting around 6 weeks and that is when we decided to put her in her crib in her room. (I was waking up when she was grunting too) We have her monitor set to the Voice Activated setting (Sony babyCall). I think we only hear the really loud noises -, coughing, crying, etc. She now cries in her sleep a few times (1am & 3am) but luckily she doesn't wake up! (She's 12 weeks now) Good Luck!
So funny! My 11 week old son does the same thing. Believe me, its better than the alternative. My 1 1/2 yr old son would cry, and loud, when he woke up. My 11 wk old does the grunting thing. I too moved him to his own room around 8 weeks and its better. I will sometimes wake up when I hear him over the monitor, but have learned to sleep through it now. When I had him in my room I'd get up and feed him because I thought it was his 'pre-cry' and didn't want him to wake up my older son with his cries. Once he was in his own room he started sleeping through the night because the grunting never went into cries...he'd go back to sleep. :)
I think it's normal as well. You can always call your pediatrician to be sure. But it sounds like it's just something he does and not related to something (digesting, bowel movements, etc). congrats!
My son was like this as well and that's why I moved him into his own room. I couldn't get any sleep. I just moved him to his crib and turned the monitor very low so I could hear crying but not grunting.
My second daughter did the same thing. I had to move her to her own room at 6 weeks. Eventually it goes away, but it is just thier thing. Good Luck.
