If you have a 6-7 month old could you give me a schedule of when he or she naps during the day and what their night sleep is like? I want to make sure my son is getting enough sleep, his sleep schedule is starting to change again and its just nice to have examples.
thanks

My baby just turned 7 months. His schedule is:
Wake up around 7
Nap at 9 for 1-2 hours
Nap again at 12:30ish (I try to make him last this long so he and my three year old sleep at the same time, though he could prob go down earlier most days) or 1 for about 1.5 hours
He would sleep again for another 30-45 minutes if I take him for a walk or a drive, but he usually doesn't have another nap and goes to bed at 6:45 or 7.
He still wakes up around 3 to nurse (and once more before waking up for the day)

My son turned 6 months last week. He wakes up around 7, takes a 15 minute power nap after nursing at 9, then takes about a 30-45 mintues nap at 10:30, then a 2 - 3 hour nap at 2:30, then goes to bed at 8. I usually nurse him once at night (around 2am) for about 10 minutes, then again around 5:30am.

Of course, all kids differ on how much sleep they need, but the general rule at this age, I believe, is 13-15 hours / day. Just follow your son's cues as to when he is tired and set a schedule based on that. If he is happy and alert during the day, then he is probably getting enough sleep.

Sleep patterns change with growth and activity. If a child is cranky before going to bed, he may be over-tired and you may have a problem getting him down. A long nap in the early afternoon will allow him to stay up later, maybe 8 PM before retiring. A short nap in the afternoon may get him to go to sleep at 6 PM and then wake up at 11 PM, feeling hungry,.....then you will be with him playing games until 2 PM. Plan your times wisely according to your family schedule so that you don't have a cranky baby when you are travelling or vacationing. Usually they will sleep in the car and you will be fine. But plan to sleep with him when you get to your destination in order to put yourself and him on the same schedule as the rest of the family when all of you wake up the next day. I hope that this is helpful.
