I need advice on how to get him to start getting up to go to the potty during the night. He has nights where the pull up is dry during the night and others to where it is soaked!

What can I do next?

My daughter is 2 and is wearing panties thru the night. She can hold it thru the night most of the time but after a couple of middle of the night linen changings I start taking her to the potty before I go to bed. For example she goes to bed at 8 and I usually take her again around midnight right before I go to bed. She never even really wakes up. I sit her on the potty tell her to potty and then lay her back in the bed. Painless. Just a idea. Good luck.

take off the pull up. you will lose some sleep as will he. it will also train him to keep control during the night. the pull up means he doesn't have to get up to remain comfortable. try cutting liquids 2-3 hours before bedtime and absolutey no caffiene. keep the coke out of the house. if you haven't tarted potty training with your 2 year old start now so that you don't run into the same problem.

Hi A., my name is M.. I have a 5yr old girl & I have the same prob. The only advice I have gotten was to watch her liquid intake 2 hrs before bed. So I have done that and I also believe she will get tired of smelling like pee soon and quit. But she is also lazy. If u hear of anymore advise PLEASE let me know. Good luck!!!

Hello Alice,

I wouldn't worry about it too much. My middle son had the same problem. He wore pull-ups to bed until he was about 7 (I think) .. he's 9 now.

I just limited his drinks ... nothing after dinner. The doctor told me that some kids' bladders just takes longer to mature and he would grow out of it .. and he did!

After I limited his drinks and made sure he tried to go potty at bedtime ... MOST times he would wake up dry!

Good luck!

Please don't worry about it. You run the risk of setting up a sleep disorder if you insist that he drags himself out of bed in the middle of the night. It is a social phobia that bed wetting is a problem. There is no medical or scientific evidence of any kind that a child that has wet the bed will have any kind of problem once the bladder catches up to the rest of the body. Please esy your mind and comfort your son. It's just how the human body grows.
Good Luck and Best Wishes.

I have the same problem with m 5 year old son. I worried about it for a while, but I have decided that I won't worry anymore. Some kids just won't wake up to use the bathroom. My son sleeps so hard that he doesn't know he's doing it. I don't really think it's a potty training issue or an issue of maturity. He just doesn't wake up.

I've heard that you can set your alarm to go off at a certain time during the night so you can wake him up to go potty. Then, once this goes on for a while, he'll be used to getting up in the middle of the night to go potty.

I have friends that have made their children change the wet sheets (with some assistance, of course). The children soon learned that it is much easier to get up & go to the bathroom instead of having to change clothes & sheets during the night. Just make sure that you have a waterproof mattress pad on the bed before you stop using the Pull Ups.
