I would try not giving her any milk products at all for a while to see if the night puking stops. Then I would try adding in yogurt for a little while and maybe a little cheese later (or not if you can get along without it). That way you can tell if any of these things were doing it.

Could be acid reflux. Personally no problem with it. I did watch this show one time where this little girl was getting sick in the middle of the night every night. Well it turned out the little girl was having seizures. They diagnosed her with epilepsy. I do not think this is your problem, but it was a thought. Good luck with the reflux.

I am sensitive to dairy and have been ever since I was a baby (now 27). I have found that in the morning and in the evening I am more sensitive to dairy to the point where it makes me feel sick, sometimes getting sick. I have been told by doctors that lactose is harder to digest at night while sleeping so can cause issues.

So try avoiding milk at night (no milk 2 hours before bed time). This has pretty much solved the sick feeling that I have, some times kids grow out of it (I did) but then when older the issue can start again (it happened in college for me and has not gone away). Also I have been told that it runs in the family and so I asked around and I have uncles, aunts, cousins that also are sensitive to dairy/lactose.

The reason why cheese & yogurt are less of a problem is because it is more processed then milk so there is less lactose in it so causing less of an irritation. This may or may not be what your daughter is sensitive to but seems similar to what I have grown up with.

I hope you find what is causing your daughters sensitivity. Oh another suggestion; it could be stress or anxiety (both kids & adults can struggle with this)... they get so worked up or worried about something that is happening in a day or two and it makes them feel sick (I also struggle with this). Just an idea, in this case deep breathing and simple calming techniques have worked for me. Maybe ask her if she is worried about something, or it could even be as simple as struggling with learning something.

It could be acid reflux or GERD. The fact that it gets worse when she lays down, greesy foods and milk-based problems make it worse. You can google it...there is a list of foods that can make it worse, I would try to avoid those foods for dinner and later. You can try elavated the head of the bed to see if that helps. Either way, if it continues I would probably have the MD check it out.

My son is 16 months and we are going through the same thing. Last night they drew blood and are doing an allergy test because they think he may be allergic to milk also. He throws up, gags, or gets bad stomach pain with it. We put him on soy for a month which seemed to help but now he has had diarrea. They told us to stop the dairy completely for month and then start introducting it again in small amounts of like yogurt and cheese. My son also does not have any problems with cheese or yogurts. But it is my understanding that yogurt is a bit different then the milk so one may agree and one may not. May be worth a try!
Good luck-
Tam

Could be GERD, Could be simple reflux, Could be latose intolerance (that's an easy one), could be celiacs disease, could be a sugar intolerance.

Basically could be alot of things.

A good GI workup she pry needs if she is throwing up for no reason. If you want to try something else first I would elimanate ALL dairy from her diet... regardless if you think she handles certain things well or not. Maybe she doesn't. Maybe that stuff doesn't digest and sits in her gut sometimes all day and night till she pukes. Hard to say. Elimanate it all for a month. Replace it with calcium fortified oj and soy milk (doesn't taste much differnt), replace cheese with rice or soy. replace yogurt with soy yogurt. You get the idea. I did this for my daughter who had the same problem as yours and she's been fine now for nearly a year. She just can only handle dairy in VERY small doses. Basically once a week or she's all messed up.

You could also elimate all gluten from her diet (this can be hard) to see if it's celiacs disease. It's real commen anymore and basically several kinds of grains they just can't handle. You could try that if you still didn't have luck with the lactose.

After that if still no luck I'd take her to a gi. She might have gastroparesis or GERD or just simple reflux. There are meds that can fix that. She could even take a reglan before bed and that would calm her stomach and force it to digest if needs be. Otherwise a simple rantidine could help or maybe even a Proton pump inhibitor (prilosec, nexium)...

But if she was my little girl I'd take her to a GI doc and let her get a work up. Something isn't right.

I would talk to her doctor too. I have friends who are lactose intolerant but can do cheese and yogurt, so being ok with those doesn't have to mean milk is ok too.

My daughter (7) puked on 4 different occassions in a 4mo.time span. I too an wondering WHY?

Just keep a very well document journal of exactly what she's eatin and maybe you can pinpoint it.

You don't have to give your child milk there are plenty of other foods out there that have the same nutirition and vitamins. Were not big milk drinkers in my house because it seems to have so many bad side effects.
