I have a 4 year old and I want to get started on Christmas. Any good ideas? PS I am super frugal so if you know of a cheaper way to obtain it, let me know that too!

What can I do next?

You might want to check your local Dollar Tree. I just bought some Barbie IDesign Cards for my almost 6 yr old. They are like baseball cards, but clear with one piece of clothing on it. You layer 5 or six cards to make an outfit and then put it on top of the Barbie card. They fit in a little holder so they can stand up. The ones at Dollar Tree were $1 for 3 sets of outfits and one "doll". We have them in our church/restaurant bag and she will play with them nonstop. They would be a great stocking stuffer and super cheap! A friend has also seen the fancy computer game version with cards on clearance for cheap at Target. Some stores have just marked their clearance down to 75% off. Best of luck.

Hi W.,
My four year old loved having a doll stroller. I remember it being pretty inexpensive at Target or W-M.
She also loved having her own little "oven" and play food and dishes. I still have the plastic play food and use it when my little nieces come over to play.

You might be able to find things like this at garage sales. Since the items are mostly plastic, you can clean/disinfect them at home before her use.
Hope that helps!
Leanne

I have boys, so I can't really help you on what to get, but I know how to get stuff cheap! Mattel OUtlet is great! Goggle it and you can find a website where they have coupons. Even without a coupon, they run great sales. The selection isn't as abundant as it is at Toys R Us, but they have tons of Barbies, Polly Pocket, Dora, and board games that would be good for a 4 year old. Their regular prices aren't any better than a regular store (at least not on the boy stuff - I don't really know regular prices of Barbies or other girl stuff :), so I never purchase anything there that isn't on sale or I don't have a coupon for. I can find the website for you if you want and give you directions. Just send me a message and I'll get that together for you. I always start looking there around this time and pick up one or two items when I go.

**The post after mine about stocking up on clearance sales now reminded me of another good cheap idea. This is a great time to get stocking stuffers like crayons, water colors, markers, glue sticks, glue, scissors, etc. A box of Crayola crayons right now is $0.30 at Walmart. At Christmas time, it's $2 something I believe. I always buy those stocking stuffers now at the back to school sale. Some of the outdoor stuff like sidewalk chalk and bubbles that go on sale at this time I'll get and save for the Easter basket.

I have recently fell in love with a consignment shop - Kid to Kid. We have bought several toys there for our girls. My husband was against the idea at first b/c of the thought of gifting hand me down toys; however, they don't know the difference at this age. Plus the Kid to Kid store in Rockwall is the best. A lot of the things that I have bought there look brand new; especially after washing them down. Good luck!

We always take advantage of all the end of summer sales for the majority of our son's Christmas presents. We have the luxury in Texas of having reasonably good weather almost all year so we get him outside toys and a bike or other ride-on toy during these sales and alot of toys are also put on sale to make room for Christmas toys. This also a good time to get litte books and things for stockings and clothes and shoes as they transition from summer to winter. It is also a good idea to get on toys r us' e-mail and mailing list. I have started getting alot of coupons to use during their sale days.
