I have a 4 and 3 weeks old baby girl who has recently slipped off her 7 years old sister hand at about 30" above the ground and landed face down on the Care Bears foam play mat that is about 1/2 inch thick, and under the mat is the carpet. She was a little sleepy before the fall already because she has been awake to play for a long time and play a lot so after the fall, I hold her in my arms and tapped her to see if she conscious and respond, and her eyes was a little fuss like wanting to close, while I still continue to shake and tapped her left arm lightly, she did respond and wanted to go to sleep. So I breastfed her and she's taking it like she normally does, then she slept. I tried to disturb her sleep, and she did move when I shake her arm lightly, and tapped her cheeks, arms, and legs lightly. I even opened both of her eyes to see if the pupils are moving normal during the sleep time and and it did move like normal sleepy eyes does. It will be 48 hours after 4pm today (Sunday June 28), and she is still acting and playing normal like she still does. No vomitting or anything, she still woke up at night to be fed. I don't know if I should bring her to the doctor or ER? I'm concerned and confused right now. Please, help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I brought the baby to the doctor on Sunday right after i posted this already because I want to make sure she's ok even though there is no symptoms. Thanks God she is normal. The doctor said if there is any symptoms coming up then bring her in immediately. Up til today she's still normal, I prayed for that. Thanks God. Thanks everyone for your responses.

i'm rather appalled that if this is even a question, you haven't gone to the doctor. i can't believe you wait 2 days and then ask non-doctors.

If you are concerned and need any reassurance that she is ok or needs to see a Dr, then you need to call your Dr and ask. We can't possibly know if she's ok or not. We were not there.

Your Dr can tell you if what you are currently experiencing is normal or not and if you need to have her checked out.

Good luck!!

Let's rephrase, shall we?

Your 7 year old dropped your 4 month old baby from a height of about 30" onto a carpet padded, foam floor. She was already sleepy, she got fussy after the fall, but since then she's been eating, sleeping and behaving normally.

What's the problem? She's fine. Next time your 7 year old is holding the baby, have her seated on the floor.

See your doctor asap and don't let your 7 yr old hold your 4 month old unless they are already flat on the floor to begin with.
If it were my child I'd have taken her to the ER right away.

So two days later you are now wondering should you bring her in? Nope

Not sure I understand the question either - I'm hoping he meant you gently shook your baby's arm and not your baby. Maybe it's just the way it was written.

If you take a baby into the ER for a fall, they will check the baby's head and skull, they will manipulate the limbs to check for fractures, they will check the eyes (unusual eye movement), etc.

If you're not sure what to look for, or to keep an eye out for (excess sleepiness for example), you should still take her in even though it's been 48 hours.

Baby's bones are usually pretty soft at this stage, but 30 inches is quite a drop.

I agree with the suggestion of having your daughter sit on the floor while holding the baby in future.

Hope your baby's ok. Better safe than sorry

If you have any worries call the Doctor. If they are not available I would visit the er.

We aren't the right ones to ask. You should have called the nurse at your ped's office, or at least a nurse at an ER with a ped's attending there.

We don't want to tell you wrong, so it's best to talk to the professionals...

Why haven't you called the 24 hour nurse line at your doctor's office?
