3Rd Pregnancy, My Belly Is Huge and I Still Have 2 Mos to Go!

Hi everyone,

I am expecting my 3rd baby in 10 weeks and I feel huge. I have gained 30 lbs so far, much more than I would have liked, but I was so nauseated for the first 3 mos and the only thing that made me feel better was heavy carbs (mashed potatoes, soup, crackers, etc.) Everyone says I am all belly but my belly seems massive to me. I have tried to cut down on my eating, but I am hungry most of the day. I get mixed reactions from others, from "this is your third you are going to be bigger" to "wow you are going to have a big baby". My back hurts and not to complain even more, but I am so tired already. My boys are 6 and 8, so it is not like I am taking care of little ones anymore. Any advice. I feel a little lost.

Thanks,

Nickie

You probably won't get any bigger than you are now... I didn't get any bigger the last 2mos with my son.

I'm only 5'. I gained 32lbs by the 31wks along (172lbs for me at that time- whew!), but never gained any more than that. Not long after he was born... I was in my pre-preg jeans! By the time I went back to work (8wks after I had him)!

No worries! If you are "all belly" you are all baby. 30 pounds is fine as far as I know. If you were gaining all over, that would be different. Eat things that are good for you, stay away from the "white" food and pop. Baby will be chubby, healthy and hungry! Congrats!

I have 7 weeks to go. This lady asked me a couple weeks ago when I was due, when I told her she said "I dont think your going to make it!"
The cashier at the grocery store today didnt ask me if I wanted help out, he said "It looks like you NEED help out!" LOL!! These people.
I have gotten huge, with all 3 pregnancies, I usually gain about 50 lbs (go me!) I have gained 34 lbs so far! Guh! My belly is HUGE!
I always shock people when I tell them when Im due and thats theres only one in there.
Im short and I like to eat when Im pregnant. Whats a girl to do?

Sounds like me!! :)

I was miserable, whiney, gained over 40 pounds (and only ever gained 30 to 35 with my first two) and my belly was HUGE. People also told me I was all in the belly, but my back hurt, my ankles swelled, walking hurt, my pelvis hurt, and my son was born 3 days past his due date weighing 10 pounds and measuring 22 inches. My first was 8 pounds 13 ounces and my second was 7 pounds 6 ounces (3 weeks early) and both were 20 1/2 inches, so my third was a BIG surprise. Hang in there and just be healthy with your diet and gentle with your exercise--don't push yourself. You've got some time to recover.

(Incidently, though, my third delivery was easier than my first two, which were still perfectly easy deliveries. My third will be 3 weeks old tomorrow and I feel almost totally recovered, just a little achey in my abdomen when I push myself too hard.)

Aw you poor thing. Just try your best to relax, especially because your kids arent too young where they cant entertain themselves for awhile while you nap, or put your feet up. As for the weight, its okay, and you do tend to be bigger with the 2nd and 3rd ones, so dont worry! 30 lbs is still healthy weight and if you gain 40 then so be it. It doesnt matter in the end, its for the baby and if baby wants to eat then eat. Worry about losing it later, especially if you are going to nurse the weight will drop quickly. So dont be so hard on yourself, everything will be okay, just keep your chin up and remember that soon you will have a beautiful new baby! People are always going to say crazy things to you but you have to let them roll off.
I bet you look beautiful and are truly all belly!
Congrats and remember to take it easy on yourself!

N.,

People say the most intrusive and rude things, ignore them. You need eat and eat healthy. But if want a pizza or some ice cream or some more mashed potatoes, eat some. You've got your hands full with your boys, it's nice that they are older because they will be able to help you some with their new sibling. I don't think it's good for you to feel lost or to be hungry.

What does your husband say?

Blessings.....

I assume you've been ultrasounded so you'd know if it's twins. Sounds like making healthy food choices is even more important than ever. I'd keep the carbs to a minimum and eat lots of protein, veggies & fruit. Are you drinking enough water? Walking or swimming can strengthen your abdominal muscles and take some stress off your back. Yoga for pregnant women or just some gentle stretching would be good. Maybe using a balance ball. Stand up straight and enjoy being pregnant. Lots of carbs will make you feel tired and sluggish, so it's time to cut way back on them. Hang in there, N.!

this is my second pregnancy and I am "all belly"... i have 2.5 months left and I feel HUGE too! I have only gained 20 lbs... so far - I am EXHAUSTED and I have almost no motivation to do anything, sigh....

My daughter is 2, so I do have to chase her around LOL... that is probably the only reason I don't stay in bed most of the day!

I don't have a whole lot of advice for you... I think this is just the way it is with 2nd, 3rd, and beyond pregnancies! The last trimester is just HARD! You feel big, you waddle like a duck, you are always hungry but you can't hardly eat- yet seem to gain weight anyways, LOL! Add to that the fact that nothing works "quite right" in your body, and people are all "handsy" every time you are out and about...

Just know you are not alone... In a "misery loves company" sort of way it is nice to hear someone else who feels just like I do! Just hang in there and remember every day that you are in the "home stretch"!

Hug!

Carbs are not the enemy, they are the fuel for your body! Eating whole food carbs is much better then refined ones (white flours and rice).

You will be hungry all the time, its totally normal for a pregnant woman. Now that you've passed the nauseated stage be thoughtful in what you eat. Have a LARGE salad along with your normal dinner, the volume plus all the fiber will help you both feel full and stay full longer! Plan at least 2-4 vegetables to eat along with your starch and protein, that will do the same thing. Eating things like whole grain cereals, oatmeal, whole grain pancakes and waffles will help keep you from wanting to snack mid morning, and if you do, stick to fruit and nuts, or yogurt (though be sure to avoid artificial sweeteners used in the "low calorie" types, not good for you OR baby). As long as your eating foods, rather then things like ice cream, candy, desserts, chips, dip, etc, you should be fine.

Best wishes! Keep moving as much as possible, and don't worry about the lbs. too much. :)

PLEASE - don't go hungry. your baby still needs constant nutrition and I am a HUGE believer in listening to your body. If you feel hungry, there is a reason for it! And a pretty great one, at that :)

Make good choices about what you eat, but DO eat if you are hungry. I am pregnant with my second, but with my first I gained over 40 pounds. Your weight gain will probably slow down, but you are actually right on track for gaining 25 - 35 like recommended.

The back pain and the tiredness are hard to deal with, especially since you have other kids to take care of so you can't just "nap on demand". Get a good pair of supportive tennis shoes if you can and take FULL ADVANTAGE of friends and family when they offer to help and watch your other kids. I knwo that when I offer, I mean it and want to help a friend out. If no one has offered, ASK. I would LOVE if a friend called on me to help her out in a way like that. That's what friends are for :)

I am 26 wks pregnant with my third and have gained 20 lbs so far. Monday I was told I look like I'm carrying twins. Seriously?! I thought I was looking pretty good so far and my belly didn't look all that big (compared to my second anyways). And this woman asked me how much weight have I gained expecting me to say like 50 or 60. When I told her about twenty, she then told me she gained 80 lbs with hers. So does that mean she looked liked she was carrying quads?! :) The things people say to others!!

It sounds to me like you are right on track with your weight gain and you probably think you look huge, especially since it's been 6 yrs since you've been pregnant. Congrats on your baby!!

I'm with ya on this one. I am due May 27th. So i'm due in about 8 weeks. I've gained 24 pounds, but now down to 19 pounds total. I get eyebrows goiing up all the time when people ask how far along i am. Although i am starting to shrink. I've lost 5 pounds in a week due to stress. This is my third and my back is also killing me to the point where i feel like my legs are going to go out on me. I would just try to eat healthier. Deffinately no soda, the sugar is soooo bad. Maybe go for a half hour walk 4 times a week. Good luck!

Nickie,
I am pregnant with my 4th - 26 1/2 weeks down, 13 1/2 to go. I have an 8, 6, and 3 year old, and I am on bed rest (pretty difficult). I have gained more than I wanted to also, so I have decided to cut all sugars out (except for lots of fruit) - no more cookies and ice cream for me.

For your back - I just got the best thing yesterday - the original Bed Buddy deep penetrating back wrap thermatherapy. You put it in the microwave for 1 minute, then wrap around you - great heated support for your lower back!!! I got it at Rite-Aid, but can get from Target.

Also make sure you are taking an iron supplement (in addition to pre-natal) for tiredness.

I've always felt that the body is going to do what the body is going to do. The size of your belly isn't always an indicator of the size of your baby, in case you're scared of a larger baby. Just make sure you're taking care of yourself and don't worry about appearances. This is baby #3 for me, too, and I've been getting comments. They don't bother me since I had twins before and was way larger than anyone though possible. Even though I'm still very large for having three months to go, I'm so much smaller than before that I just let it roll of my back. Good luck these last two months!

Every pregnancy is different. What does your OB say about your weight gain? I hate when people say things like what you described in your post...who are they to be an expert in your well being? I'm pregnant with my 4th right now. I have 4 weeks to go and how much I have gained is between me and my OB. I refuse to tell anyone other than my husband and close friend and my sister how much I've gained because it's not of anyones concern. Please do not diet or deprive yourself of food, if you are considering either. You will only hurt the growth of your baby UNLESS your doctor advises you to cut back. When I was pregnant with my first born, my doctor advised me to cut back on fats. When I started to lose weight, he quickly said I was cutting out too much. If you're feeling tired and sore at 10 weeks, I'm sorry to say, that you will likely remain tired and sore as you progress. Listen to your body and rest when you feel the need and eat when you are hungry but watch your portions and make every calorie count. Pregnancy is a surefire way to pack the pounds on quickly because your body will hold onto everything you eat for the nourishment and well being of the growing baby within you. Good luck and congratulations.

Well with both my pregnancies, my tummy was HUGE. Everyone thought I had multiples. But no, just one baby in me.

For my 1st pregnancy, I gained 25 pounds.
My Doc is real strict about subsequent pregnancy weight gain. Per my starting weight for my 2nd pregnancy, he said I could only gain 15 pounds. I did not diet or anything or restrict myself. But by some miracle, I did indeed only gain 15 pounds. But he also said, NO juice or sweets. But I didn't struggle with food cravings for sweets, anyway.

I had a hard time walking and doing so many things too. Because my tummy was so huge and I am a petite person. I was a mountain in front.
And the fatigue too.

But my daughter was 3 at the time of my 2nd pregnancy. So I merely explained to her that Mommy has to take care of my tummy and her little brother. We would nap together. As I went up stairs, she would be behind me pushing me on my behind so I could CLIMB the stairs in our home. She was real helpful, in her own way.

Just REST.
Just do nothing sometimes.
Have your kids help and your Hubby. They are all old enough to do so.
Don't over exert yourself, lest you strain yourself etc.
Drink lots of water, to help with contractions.
Eat healthily.
Graze throughout the day... so you do not get TOO hungry. Graze.

Could be baby is laying facing your back, big baby, or just a perception... lol I know that I felt huge in the last 10 weeks with all 4 of mine... The smallest baby was actually the one I felt biggest with.... Are you measuring bigger than usual for this stage?
Could be it seems bigger just cause its all sticking out...
Try to take it easy... It may seem like its dragging at times (the clock, not the belly) but it will fly by!
Rest and enjoy the fleeting time that you have before you arenot attatched physically anymore...

In May, I had people totally incredulous when I said I wasn't due until September. I was slimming way down from behind but looked like a bus in the front. Baby was in position at 20 weeks and then didn't move (just grew and grew and grew!) My back was sore all summer long. I was hungry most of the time as well, so I carried around bags of raw veggies everywhere. As my stomach got more cramped, I was snacking all day on these things and drinking water constantly to help flush out my system and stave off eclampsia.
Try not to limit food, just make those healthy, whole food choices that are full of the best nutrients for your baby. You may still gain some more, but it'll be baby or water weight, not fat, so it'll shed fast. Plus, you'll be starting a good lifestyle change by eating better that you may end up sticking with post-miracle.
