3 Yr Old Birthday Party Ideas

My daughter will be 3 in May and I'm trying to figure out where to have her party. We can't do it at home...there isn't enough space. I'm inviting about 10 -12 little ones...boys and girls. I'm planning on doing it the weekend before Memorial Day. I'd love to do it outside somewhere (although with Chicago weather, you never know)or just some place more interesting than jump zone. She loves music...singing and dancing.

Any ideas for places? Or does anyone know of a good music person to hire?

I really appreciate it!! We live in the lincoln park area.

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

My daughter just turned 3 in January, and we had her birthday party at The Music Playhouse (Southport and Grace in Lakeview). They have a couple different packages, so it was more reasonably priced than some of the other types of places we looked into: http://www.themusicclass.com/CenterStaticPage.aspx?id=103

You could also check out some other places on this directory (Scroll down to "Music & Dance"): http://www.chicagokids.com/resources/birthdaypartylocatio...

Best of luck,
R.

Hi M.,

Check out www.kidwinks.com. In addition to being a great resource for things to do with your kids (Events Calendar, Kids Eat Free Calendar and more) in the Chicago area, they also have very helpful online Guides. One of them is a Birthday Party Guide. Here's the link to the Birthday Party Guide: http://www.kidwinks.com/ForKids/6/KidsBirthdayPartyPlaces...
If you scroll down to the yellow area and click on the big link for all birthday party places, you'll get a list of almost 300 places in the Chicago area. If you become a member of kidwinks, which is free, you can then sort that list to find what's nearest to you. And you can also read reviews from other moms on many of these places.

Hope this helps. Happy birthday to your daughter!

We are always in the same predicament as you. There are other options for play spaces than inflatables, but the cost for most party packages is for up to 25-30 kids, so it's pretty expensive to have a party for a dozen or so kids yet home isn't an option. We went to Adams Park (I think that's the name) in Lincoln Park just south of Armitage just before Labor Day last summer, the last day the water play area was open. There's a nice playground with a sandbox full of toys. It will be too early for water play, but they have a rec room that you can look into renting for the party. You'll have to bring everything in yourself, but the kids can play outside then warm up inside with food/cake. If it's really cold or rainy, you'll have to plan for an indoor activity because it really is just an open room. I've never had a party at the park district, but I think it's pretty inexpensive. I believe a downside is that you don't get a "helper" for setting and cleaning up, so it ends up being a lot of work for you during the party. If she loves music, you can look into a place like Gymboree where they have people leading activities, but Gymboree parties are expensive if you're not a member. We have 2 kids and have had parties at Kid City, Fantasy Kingdom and My Corner Playroom. This year, we're looking at Pump It Up or Little Beans Cafe for my son's 4th. Good luck!

We did ours at Fantasy Kingdom (paired with a few other friends who had birthdays around the same time to help keep costs down!) & it was great! The staff was wonderful wrangling the kids for food & cake, as well as set up, gifts, etc. Can invite 20 kids & 30 adults, included in the package price. And they're currently running a special of $100 off...

What about the build-a-bear at Navy Pier? Then you could do cake/ice cream outside if the weather is good.

Some of the parks have water sprays - I had my daughter's 5th b'day at the park at the corner of Damen/Belmont in Rosecoe Village (I can't remember the name), but I'm sure there are others. So the kids all wore their swimsuits and they can jump around in the water spray and play on the equipment. We just brought card tables and folded chairs had some appetizer food & drinks for the adults and pizza with cupcakes for the kids (so it was easy for them to sit on blankets to eat).
We played pin the tail on the donkey, but that was the only "organized" activity. The rest was just them playing on the swings etc and running through the water.

good luck!

We had my daughter's third birthday at The Family Room in Evanston. They have a wonderful free-play space and plenty of room if you want to put on some music and dance.
