Has anyone ever had a problem with their son urninating frequently? Like every 20 mins sometimes or even more. My son is potty trained and has been for over 10 months now, but the last 4 months he has been potting way too much? any advice??
We have had him tested for Diabetes and urniary tract infections and tested negative for both. Our doctor said the next step will be a specialist in Kansas City, at childrens mercy. They cant get us in til Nov. What can we do til then?

What can I do next?

We are going through the same thing with my 3 year old. He is constantly using the bathroom. I try and get him to wait, but he always says he has to go. I took him to the dr. and he tested negative for diabetes and uti. I don't know really what else to do either.

We are going through the same thing with our 4 year old son. He went to the doctor and they checked for diabetes and urinary tract infection but both were negative. He doesn't complain that it hurts or anything, he is just constantly going to the bathroom.

Hi N..
My son had a similar problem when he was little, and occasionally still experiences it but not as bad. His doctor referred us to a pediatric urologist and we found out that he has a condition called bladder hyperreflexia. It basically means that his bladder thinks he has to go even if there isn't much in there. We did medication for a while and worked on retraining the bladder by gradually extending the time between going to the bathroom. For example, you said he goes about every 20 minutes, so try to get him to hold off for an extra five or ten minutes. Then each week try to add a few more minutes until you reach a more acceptable interval. Don't make him wait until he has an accident or anything, but encourage him to wait if he can. At first that was really hard for my son, which is where the medicine was helpful. Good luck!

I'm not aware of any other advice you've gotten, but you might want to consider having him tested for diabetes. Frequent urination is a classic symptom. Hopefully he's fine, but it doesn't hurt to rule it out! Good luck.

my daughter had the same problem- just like most of you it didn't help going to a docter so I went to a chiroprator -as scary as that sonuds but he noticed that her hips were a little out of place so he worked with them and put them in place and then WOW she could hold it for hours!!

Is he actually producing a lot of urine each time he goes? My son got in the habit of thinking he needed to go every time he felt even a little pee in his bladder so each time he went it was just a little dribble. For him, it was just a matter of training him not to go so often. I talked with him about how he's missing out on playtime by going so often and started gradually increasing the times between going to the bathroom. But I agree with others, it doesn't hurt to get him checked out.

My 4 year old has been having these symptoms for months, he does it then stops for a few weeks... etc. We also tested for UTI and it's not diabetes. I looked up on the internet and came up with something called pollakiuria sp? .... anyways it's a frequent daytime urination disorder, it's supposed to go away on it's own and may or may not be caused by stress. You might want to look it up, haven't figured anything on this end yet either, but it's nice to know that it may not be anything serious.

Hi N., I agree with all the people that said you should take him to a ped. urologist and I'm sorry to hear that you have to wait that long to get into children's mercy. I feel bad for your little one to have to go that often. I know that some people on here said that their children were doing the same thing and they had to make their child wait to pee but I wouldn't do that with your son because you have no idea what is going on and that could make things a lot worse. Is there another doctor you can go to so you don't have to wait until nov.? We are taking my son to children's mercy to see a ped. G.I. doctor and I hope we don't have to wait that long to get in. I wish you the best of luck and will be praying for you and your little guy. God bless you!

I would talk to your pediatrician again and let him know that Children's Mercy can't get you in until Nov. and see if they have any suggestions. He may need further tests. It could be that he's gotten into a bad habit of not fully emptying his bladder when he does go and then the bladder goes into spasms. I would steer clear of soda, etc. Does he have to go as often throughout the night too? We have been at Children's Mercy in the past and they really are the BEST! It's good to keep pushing until you get the help you need because if it is something serious like a kidney issue then you want to find out sooner rather than later. Try not to overworry though but be diligent...parents are the best advocates for their children. Something isn't right and as his mom you can judge/sense that. Also, try to cut off fluids an hour before bedtime if need be to get him through the night. Losing sleep is just more stress added to the situation.
