3 Year Old Boy Birthday in September

I need some ideas for my son's 3rd birthday which is the end of September. We've had parties in our home in the past with family including adults and kids. It always seems like everyone crowds into 1 room and the kid ends up hiding somewhere or acting up. So I'd like to try something else for my son's 3rd birthday. I'd like to have it outside but the weather can be unpredictable. I really don't want to go to Chuck E Cheese or that kind of thing. Does anyone have any suggestions? We have a small yard, but could go to a park or something like that. I thought of a camping party without the sleeping part.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We ended up having my son's birthday this weekend (Sept. 22) at a fire station. There were about 6 kids and 10 adults and everyone had a good time. I arranged it with the fire dept. and they had someone there who showed the kids the trucks and let them climb in them and he turned the hose on and let the kids try it. We did cake and gifts at the station too. It was a lot of fun.

You could do a music birthday at Ensemble Music. Great space, fun activities(parents can particpate if they would like or you can do a drop off). They clean up. Here is the website: www.ensemblemusic.net. Another idea is an art party at Abrakadoodle. I hear their parties are great! There is also Edinbourough Park.
Good Luck!

We have Aug. and Sept. birthdays and this year we rented a park pavillion. We had a lot of bees though and had to move the trash cans, we sprayed, and covered the food. Maybe the end of Sept. will be better for the park. We'll see. It should be cooler so I wouldn't think you'd have an issue. We got a park where the play area is right next to the pavillion. The kids had a good time.

Depending where you live, the BLAST in the Eagan community center does birthday parties. Its an indoor climbing gym with tube slides for the kids. There is lots to do and the three year old range is a perfect age for this place.
Or you could try Edinborough Park (another indoor park)
Lookout Ridge in Woodbury
These are all indoor places.
Thompson park is a nice place to have a party as well its in West St. Paul.

If your son likes trains you can do a birthday at either ChooChoo Bob's in St. Paul or at the Jackson Street Roundhouse (also in St. Paul). If a lot of adults will be attending then the Jackson Street Roundhouse might be the best because they will have stuff to look at and do as well.

You could rent a hotel room where they have a cool pool or even a waterpark.. After everyone leaves just your immediate family could sleep the night.

Pumpkin patch or hayride party

Have a party in the backyard making scarecrows with all the leaves

Try a park that has covered picnic areas. Even if is does rain you have a dry place to eat and open presents.

HI T.:

A few weeks ago, we helped host a "pool party" at our neighborhood HOA that got rained-out, but one of the biggest hits were MINNOW RACES! Sounds funny, but, we had 2 rain gutters, and even put in a start/finish line. The kids got to fish out their own championship minnow and race them against one another. It was a lot of fun, and the kids kept coming back for more!

For my son's party, we held a party outdoors at Grandmas. We put out a variety of activities: t-ball, obstacle course, soccer, sand castles, and more. We asked the kids to roam from one activity to the next ... you could even do prizes? This could be organized, inexpensive, and fun for all ages. ~ Good Luck!
