Hi moms....my 3 mo has what seems like a minor cold. she has some sneezing/coughing, stuffy and slightly watery nose. my question is....does anyone have any home remedies for keeping it from getting worse. when my son was younger his colds would turn into bronchitis which turned into slight cases of pneumonia. he had mild asthma which i know made it worse. but is there any way to ease the symptoms of an infant cold and keep it under control. thanks for any advise/suggestions.

So What Happened?

thanks so much for all your helpful tips and advice. of course i will consult my pediatrician before i use any methods (home remedy or not) on a 3 month old. i have already talked to him about her cold, but since its just a stuffy nose and no congestion in her chest and a dry cough....im just to keep an eye on it for now and if it gets worse i will bring her in right away. thanks again for all the helpful advice.

Hi Jess I would suggest that you take her in to see her pediatrican. Because at her age getting advice off the internet for her could be risky. Especially with this new strain of swine flu. So let her pediatrican tell you what's best for her.

Use a cool mist humidifier in his room when he is sleeping to help him breathe. Vicks makes a baby version of their rub that works pretty well. Also, baby saline for the nose. This can help ALOT but you have to also do it alot. When my second son came home from the hospital I had a cold and he got it immediately.....such a little one with such a cold, it was so hard to help him. But we did saline in the nose at every diaper change and then suctioned him out with the bulb and you could tell when we weren't keeping up with it, he would get worse. Really that is about all you can do, a little tylenol I think is ok at that age to help make him a little more comfy. Sleep and fluids and just treating his symptoms with those things.

Hey Jess,
If you want to go the natural route, I'd recommend a pro-biotic. If you go to Wholefoods, they can help you pick on out. We use the RenewLife brand which I hear is one of the best. This will help her body heal itself. I'd also recommend keeping your diet as clean as possible if you're breast feeding- organic fruits and veggies and no processed foods. The less toxins she ingests, the quicker her body will be able to heal. You might also try drinking a tsp of apple cider vinegar with a few drops of agave nectar in 8 oz of water. This will help keep your body alkaline, though it might make your milk taste a bit funny. If you're not breast feeding, try and get her to drink maybe a dropper full of it. Apple cider vinegar is a natural anti-biotic. I hope that helps. :)
blessings,
J.

My Momma told me to put the Baby Vick's formula not on the baby's chest but rather his feet! I know right? I thought "what could it hurt!" It really works?? I was quite surprised, and delighted. Just be sure to put socks on too!

Hi Jess,

I highly recommend Baby Ayr (or generic) saline nasal drops. They definitely help some. Also, running a humidifier in the room where your baby sleeps is a good idea, and having him sleep somewhat upright (either in his infant seat, or you could roll up some receiving blankets and put them under his mattress on the end where his head will be).

Best,
R.

Saline drops in the nose, humidifier, run a really hot shower in the bathroom and sit in the bathroom with the steam. These are the only things for a cold at that age. I read somewhere that vicks was dangerous for babies.

HI! Get some Eucyluptus (spelling) Oil and put it on a Q-tip. Place it near her nose and mouth, let the baby breathe it in. It works for my little one. Good Luck :)Maria

Hey Jess, You probably know this already but keeping the nasal passages clear with saline drops will help with post nasal drip and keep some of the congestion from getting into the lungs and causing infection there. Also a cool mist humidifier in the room where she sleeps and maybe one where she spends most of her time.
Other than that I don't know what else can be done for a baby that young. You don't want to rush into medicines at her age. My older son also had respiratory problems associated with colds, but our little guy hasn't shown any signs yet. We were diligent with that stuff with both of them, but probably more with the younger one b/c of the problems we had with his brother. Hope you get some good tips here and that your little one feels better soon!

1 word "ELDERBERRIES!". I get a really bad case bronchitis almost every year and it can last for weeks. last year i tried elderberry tea and elderberry syrup which I got from the healthfood store (my dad told me about it). It worked ! It cleared up the stuffy nose and cold symptoms in less then a week.Something prescription and over the counter products have failed to do. You can use it with cold medications if you feel you have to. This year I am going to pick all the wild ones I can find and make jelly and syrup so I can keep supplied.

Hi, jess.
My name is F.. I’m happy to notice your concern because I happen to have just what you need. I’m an independent distributor for a product that has cured both my son and daughter of allergies and colds. My sister who has a 5 month old granddaughter is also using it for the baby. The baby had frequent cold and she’s doing wonderful now. The product is the most remarkable natural product ever known in the health industry, 500% more effective than any other in the market in increasing body defenses by 245%, while conveying information to the immune system. It is neither a vitamin nor a mineral, or a plant. It is the most advance step ever achieved by preventing medicine. It is also included in the Physicians’ P.D.R. reference book. My husband who is a traditional doctor for the last 18 years is highly recommending it after learning of so many testimonies, although it’s a natural product and as you may know most doctors are very close minded about these types of products.
I would love for you to research it further and let me know if you would like to order it. You can go on www.4life.com to find out more about the company and the products. If you are interested please e-mail me at ____@____.com or call me at
###-###-####, I’m also in the Chicago area and I will be happy to talk to you more or bring you more information. If you were to order it online you will need my code ####-###-####. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
