I'm having my 4D May 23rd. I asked my Dr what the diff is b/t 3D and 4D and she said the only difference is 4D has sound.
I am SO excited about it! The price may have gone down because mine is only going to be $175
I have come across ads for a 4D ultrasound. The image looks to be so clear and you can actualyy see facial features. Has anyone had this done? I had my ultrasound in my Dr.'s office but this could be really cool!!

I would definitely do the sonogram-- my friend just had it done at a new really cute place on 1-35--- it's call Stork Vision- the phone is ###-###-#### and their website is
http://www.storkvision.com/
They are having an open house in May where they will be giving free one minute sonograms. I'll let you know more details on a later post.
Good luck,

There is a lot more information out there about the risks involved. My baby's father is a Biologist, he and his friend who is also a biologist agree that it's not worth the risk. Best of luck!
I went to Clearview Ultrasound on 2222 and Mopac when I was 7 months and the pictures are amazing. Your MD has to write a scrip okaying it before they'll proceed with the 4-D ultraound. There is no comparison to the ones you usually get in your doctor's office!
I had this done while I was pregnant with my daughter and it was so amazing. We could see her face so clearly, we had them capture one of the images of her face then printed it out and put it in a frame! For me it was really special because it made me feel even closer to her.
Hi S.!
I had one of these done a few years ago and it cost me around $300 but worth it! I was able to see very good detail of my daughter. The only thing is, is that my baby would not move her face too much from the placenta and the pictures would have been more clear if she would have. I also got a movie of all the pictures taken with soft music in the back ground. I LOVE IT!!! It still makes me cry when I see it. Good luck on your new baby!!
S.
Congrats on the new baby! I, too, have seen the ads for the 4D, but I only had the 3D with my last two. That was pretty cool! We were able to see a LOT of detail.
Let us know if you get one!:-)
I had that particular type of ultrasound done about 1 year ago and I thought it was soooo neat. The image was clear and we even saw the baby smile three times. I wasn't able to have this done with my first child being that she's 7 years old and that wasn't around back then. However I'd definately do this again if my husband and I decided to have a third child. Good luck with your pregnancy! God bless you.
i got that done and it was the best thing EVER.....even got a 25 minute long DVD of our little girl sucking her thumb, crying, smiling, batting her long eyelashes and more....it's GREAT
4D is awesome... The look like jelly dolls but u can see if the nose looks like yours or him. U can tell if the baby has lots of hair. Either way the baby will look awesome.
I had the 4d done and it is very worth it. You get alot of pictures and a cd with music. Why not? Its fun to look at the pictures once the baby comems too.
This is amazing! I just had it done about a month ago. My little guy had both his foot and his hand in his face trying to put them both in his mouth. It was quite humorous. Once we were able to get his appendages out of the way, we were able to see his beautiful face. I saw him stick out his tongue, yawn, and swallow. It is so worth it!!!
Good Luck!
Hi S., and congrats!
This new technology was not available with my first child, who is almost 9 now....but, I did have this 4D ultrasound with my 5 month old baby girl!
This is actually a standard service offered for all patients seen by my OB/GYN, Dr. Charles Lively. He unfortuanely, is not in Houston, but I'm curious if your dr. has this same equipment..you should ask.
If not, I would definately go somewhere to have this done!!! It is amazing! My dr. did it around 6 months, and because my baby only cooperated a little, leaving us with few good pics, he again did it for me at no extra cost at around 8 months! - I also went to Sneek-a-Peek, and paid to have it done once more....I know the excitement, and eagerness to know what that little bundle of joy looks like!
Have it done! It's so worth it, and very calming when you can count all the toes, fingers, etc~
Anyway, best wishes, and enjoy this time!!! -and sleep NOW!!!!!

My husband and I did this for our child. He has one of the pics as a screen saver. I thought that it was very interesting and exciting. However, the pictures I have, in my opinion, dont look anything like she does in person. I was expecting a whole other baby. I wouldnt hesitate to do it again. I always value and appreciate the advantages of todays technology. If for no other purpose, the experience alone, and learning something new, is worth it.
Just my opinion,
Margaret :)
Hi S.
I had the 4D ultra sounds with all 3 of my children (my dr has a machine in his office). They images are really neat and towards the end of your pregnancy you can see what the baby looks like (somewhat!) - my oldest really looked like his $D ultra sound when he was born! I love my pics and they are amazingly different than the regular ultrasounds (the grey pics). They only thing is (I guess like all ultrasounds) you really need a cooporative baby - mine liked to have their hands by their faces so sometimes you couldn't get a clear image.
I guess I was just fortunate to have the machine in the drs office so I didn't need to go somewhere else. I am not familiar with the private places they have for 4D ultra sounds but if you get a chance to do it they are really cool.
go to miracle insight in round rock and get the special. its great but they say the best time to go is 25 to 27 weeks but i went when i was 31 or 32 weeks and i got to see my babies face but had it been a few weeks earlier i would have seen him more clearly. you have to much water/fluid in there after 27 weeks they say but i think you should try it. you get 2 5x7's and CD with all your pictures on it on the "special"!!! xoxoxo A.
Ultracare 4D Baby Imaging has opened a new location in Orlando (Winter Park) and in Melbourne Florida. I am the only sonographer that will scan at both locations.
I have been an ultrasonographer for over 15 years and would love the opportunity to give you a memorable experience. I have a band new (top quality) ultrasound machine that is attached to a theatre monitor. DVD's are personalized with graphics, baby lullabies, and your baby's name. All of your friends and family are welcome to come. Another way to remember your experience is to leave with a heartbeat teddy bear. This bear has a recordable device to record the heartbeat of your baby.
Make a memory!

Hey S.,
Congratulations on your news. I got the 4D ultrasound and they are very nice. You can see a lot of stuff. I am glad we got them. We enjoyed seeing our baby and then when he was born how much he really does look like the pics. It's amazing what they can do these days.
I have had one of these and they are AWESOME! They are so clear and you get to see a lot of the baby's features. I would definately recommend it... Enjoy
I had the 3-D ultrasound taken when I was pregnant with my son Reegan. The technician did such a great job capturing my son's profile and facial features, it's pretty amazing. Sometimes the picture can look a bit odd due to the movement of the liquid around the baby but I think that it's worth it for memories. The tech took more than twenty shots and put them on a cd. I actually framed the best two shots in an antique looking frame and hung it in Reegan's room.
The pictures are easy to download to send by e-mail or print out and send by mail to friends and family members. It's a pretty cool addition to your babies scrapbook too. If you would like to see what one looks like, shoot me a reponse and I'll send you a couple of my son.

Yes, these are awsome. I got both of mine done at Clearview Ultrasound. The guy who owns the business was a real ultrasound sonographer and decided to buy his own machine and start a business. His ultrasounds come accompanied with music that he makes into a video. Will make you cry!! The man who did them was very patient and took his time to make sure that he could find their faces. Both of my kids looked just like the ultrasound! My son had "piano fingers". I loved them both. The only prob was that I waited a little long for my daughter's so she was kind of cramed in there.
Now, a few things. Because this guy used to be and still is an OFFICIAL CERTIFIED sonographer, he requires a doctor's note from your OB before doing anything. He doesn't want you finding out about potential problems from him. Also, you need to call and make an appt ASAP because you will only get a
"clear picture" IF there is enough room inside. So, you have to bee between certain weeks in your pregnancy!! If you are too far along, the baby will be hard to see the details.
I would also stay away from businesses that do not have a certified sonographer doing the ultrasound. Even though it is for "entertainment purposes only" I wouldn't have a cashier from Target giving me a "routine" check-up either!! Just doesn't make sense.
I had been having ultrasounds every week and i got a sample of the 4D and it is very cool.If you S. can send me your email I will send you a pic.My sis in law had it completly and I have those pics too.Let me know.
My friend had the 3d & 4D ultrasounds done on both of her children. Personally it is very cool but I don't think it is worth the overall expense. You can see the images pretty clearly, unless the child is turned away! You may want to make sure they guarentee a picture of the child's face.
You will take a lot of pictures/videos when you have your baby! I would advise waiting until your child is born.
good luck!
I did this with my 2nd pregnancy and my son wouldn't cooperate but we did get some great side view pictures. My advice is to take juice with you and start drinking it 15 minutes before the appointment. That was how we woke my child up. It was an awesome experience.
Yes! This is definitely worth it. My little girl is 18 mths old...I was about 24 weeks pregnant when I had ours done on her. It was amazing and the features really do show up wonderful. They gave us a cd of all the images that were taken plus a color print out of our favorite. If I had to do it over again I would have waited a little longer before doing it because the images are supposed to be even better. You should definitely do it. I treasure my pictures; I wish this technology would have been available when my son was born; but that was almost 9 years ago. Good Luck!
Definately get it done! It's a little bit expensive, but worth every penny! There is a place in San Antonio that has a HUGE 62" screen that they project the baby onto. Great fun for the whole family. And if for some reason your baby in not cooperative, they will let you come back for a free second session... We loved it!!!
Hi S..
I had the 4D sonogram when I was expecting my now 2 year old but decided against it with my now 7 month old twins. I thought it was pretty amazing -you can see even the skin. The images are sometimes a little contorted, however, because there's a membrane around the baby and sometimes the face will be pressed against the membrane (imagine pressing your face against a glass). I do have to say, though, I did feel like I had cheated myself. It was like peeking at a Christmas present and then wrapping it back up. It totally took the element of surprise by not waiting to see my beautiful daughter, for the 1st time, at delivery. Overall, it was pretty neat, but I wouldn't do it again.
Now- with that being said...I would advise you-if you decide to do it- go to your OB to have it done or at least consult him first. If he does not have a 4D sono he can refer you to another OB just for the sono (it would cost about the same either way). The places in the mall, etc. are not trained to look for certain things and if you were to see something on the sono, they would not be authorized, even if they could, to tell you what the problem is. You'd then have to go to your OB anyway for him to do another sono to diagnose the problem. Anyway, I could ramble on and on. Please do consult your OB before doing this.
Hope this helps.
I did it & it was AWESOME!!! When my beautiful daughter was born, she looked just like the 4D picture! It's wild - I suggest it. H. B
I had one done with my second too and it was really cool. What was the best is that my son who turn 3 a few days after 'his' baby got here was with me and was able to put a 'face' together with my swollen tummy.
I was 36 weeks and we did have some issues with space. We were able to get lots of face pictures but not much else. And because of space the baby's nose would get squished against my uterus and distorted the pictures some. So like the othe poster said you do have to use a little imagination if you miss that 'perfect' window.
Mine was not really a 4D, because 4d implies time. It was a series of still photos that were taken close together giving the idea of a real time video. That was the only thing that I found disappointing.
If you can afford it or your insurance will cover it, I definately think it's worth it. I plan on going again for this pregnancy, so both of my kiddos can see their new baby a little in advance of arrival.
Best wishes!
My sister-in-law had the 3D/4D ultrasound and we got to see a couple still pics from it. It was really neat to see! (We couldn't make it to the actual ultrasound, though we were invited!) I have no idea if it was covered by her insurance or even how much it costs, but the pictures were so cool to see!
It's AWESOME! It gives you a face to put with the kicks! I went to Clearview Ultrasounds on Mopac. It's a teaching facility, and the ultrasounds are free. Students examine your belly, nothing graphic, just your belly, and try to determine the sex of your baby. It is practice for them, so the just need "models" to practice on. I received a cd with about 70 pictures on it. The staff was SOOO nice too. You should give them a call!
I had this done at my doctor's office. It was amazing. We could clearly see that my new baby looks just like his older brother. Good luck!
A coworker's daughter had a 4D done last week. The picture is now hanging in her office. It is so real looking - you want to touch the baby. I'd say go for it. Modern technology is so much better than what it was 20 yrs ago. (Heck even 2 yrs ago in some areas.) I don't have 4D of any of my children and the youngest is 2yo. The picture is beautiful and the clarity AMAZING!
Good luck and congratulations
My doctor only did 4D ultrasounds. I loved it because I COULD see what she looked like. The only thing is the farther along you are the pictures might look a little wierd. My daughters nose would be pressed against my stomach and it made her face look strange.I'm glad I had them done though! They are fun to look back on. There is one that I have and you can really tell it is her!!
Yes! And we loved it! We were able to see that our son was going to be born bald... :( However, we knew right off that he had his fathers chin! He sucked his thumb, smiled, and opened his little eyes for us. It was the 2nd most remarkable moment....fitst was his birth. I will tell you that the mothers weight plays a large roll in the quality of picture. A frind of mine who is a larger woman (230 pre-preg weight) wasn't able to see as great a detail as we were able. However, the pictures are still facinating and really boosted the bond with my husband and his unborn child! Amazing how attentive he became after seeing his childs face! I highly recommend it.
Any ultrasound is a lot of fun, as you see your baby and try to imagine what he or she will look like. I had a 3-D ultrasound done when I was pregnant and I was amazed by the images and so excited to see my little girl moving. However, the pictures worried me a bit. These aren't clear images like ones taken with a camera and some interpretation and imagination is required. And I was really scared my daughter would be born with a large nose, as it seemed to indicate on the 3D scan. She turned out beautifully, with her features proportionate to one another and all my fears were for naught. My bottom line is that it was fun to do but, should I become pregnant again, I would not choose to do it.
Hi S., I had a 3D/4D ultrasound done with my last 2 pregnancies and it was a really neat thing to go and have done. It was definately worth the money!! We were able to get pictures of the actual faces and fingers-it amazed us even more once our daughters were born because they looked so much like the pics that we had taken. So if you would rather be surprised more when their born and not have any idea what they look like, don't get it done. It's really amazing though and well worth it...
Have fun and God Bless,
C.
I had it done, but my son would not cooperate, so we did not get to see his face. :(
I had it done but we also had a hard time seeing the face. The first time we did it she was looking down. The second time we went back and she was turned so we could see just a bit, not much. It was VERY COOL but kind of expensive when it doesn't turn out. My insurance paid for it because it was with my OBGYN (OGA at Fannin.)
