My daughter loves the Boxcar Children and Encyclopedia Brown in addition to many of the ones already listed.
Hello! I am a 2nd grade teacher, always looking to add new books to my classroom library. What series of books do your 7-9 year olds like? Thanks!
My daughter loves the Boxcar Children and Encyclopedia Brown in addition to many of the ones already listed.
My son's second grade teacher read the whole Little House on the Prairie series to the kids throughout the year. They all loved it so much-even the boys.
Also-look into getting abridged classics. My son has read Treasure Island, Huckleberry Fin/Tom Sawyer, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Swiss Family Robinson, Moby Dick and severeal more I can't remember- and he loved every one of them.
Also-The Dragon Slayers Academy is an awesome series that you don't hear too much about.
My son convinced his teacher to get some Geronimo Stilton books by Geronimo Stilton. He also loves Stink books by Megan McDonald, she also writes the Judy Moody books. Stink is her younger brother. Froggy books by Jonathan London. How to Train Your Dragon Series by Cressida Cowell.
My 7 year old son LOVES:
Calvin and Hobbes
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Bogus (and the other books in the series)
Anything on rocks and minerals
The Lightning Thief
The Phantom Tollbooth
Ramona series
Cat Wings series
These aren't series, but I just read "The Phantom Tollbooth" by Norton Juster and "Half Magic" by Edward Eager to my 6 year old. She loved them! I think they would be good for an above-average reader in 2nd grade.
And of course, what 7 year old doesn't love A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket? My older daughter tore through the entire series in 2nd grade.
Baseball Card Adventure series by Dan Gutman.
And of course, all DOAWKs.
Geronimo Stilton
Magic Treehouse
Diary of a wimpy kid
The Black Lagoon series
Captain underpants
A-Z mysteries were my daughter's favorite when she was around 7.
As she got to 8-9, she really liked Because of Winn-Dixie, Island of The Blue Dolphins, and The American Girl historical fiction books.
Hi i'm not sure if your public or private school. When my daughter went to public thre was such a limit of books but when we went to private the whole world opened up with the types of books allowed and what she could read. You might want to check your local private school's summer reading list.
My daughter and I both loved Junie B Jones.
Anything by the great Andrew Clements is fantastic for this age and older as well. He writes the very best "school stories" and both the kids and adults in them are realistic. I really like the ways he presents dilemmas and how kids (often working with and against different adults) work through things. They aren't preachy or precious at all but are still fun. I bet you already know them, though, especially "Frindle." My daughter has loved them all. He does have a couple that are for slightly older kids and may not be right for kids this age but most of his books are just right for advanced 2nd grade readers and up from there. Of course Louis Sachar's "Stories from Sideways School" series is also huge fun to read.
Magic Treehouse
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Magic School Bus
Any book about dinosaurs
Magic Treehouse, Junie B Jones, and Amelia Bedelia are our 2nd grader's favorite series!
Classics. E.B. White books, the Narnia series, upper-level Dr. Seuss books, fairy tale anthologies, and lots of non-fiction! (My kids like DK/Eyewitness books for non-fiction.)
I like to save "mind candy" for after school and summer and stick to good literature during academic time.
