25 weeks...breech...abnormal Head Measurements

Ok Hi all! Couple questions, kinda all realted! So at 20 weeks I had an ultrasound (girl!) and at my ob appt I was told her head was measuring long and narrow for her gestational age. She said not too worry because this is a common occurance when babies are breech (it can affect the measurement due to positioning). Obviously at 20 weeks I was not concerned at her being breeched, but still not crazy about the head measurement news.
Ok so had another ultrasound at 24 weeks to remeasure. Her head was measuring 2 weeks ahead vertically and almost 2 weeks behind horizontally. And AGAIN she was in the exact position she was 4 weeks prior. Her head is in my upper right side with her feet on my lower left side.
So my OB said these measurements are borderline "abnormal" but doesn't mean anything is wrong with her. She just might have a big/narrow head...could be genetics...I have a large head!
I will have another ultrasound at 28 weeks to recheck, and if the measurements are still off then she might refer me to a maternal fetal medicine doc, but she said they probaly will blame it on positioning of the baby.
Ok question...is it normal for the baby to stay in the exact same spot for extended periods of time? I feel her move all the time so that is not a concern. Just wondering when is the breech position a concern and does this mean she may never switch positions?

What can I do next?

Call the OB and go to the Maternal Fetal specialist sooner rather than later. I saw one all through my pregnancy (I was 35) and they are true experts. She will ease a lot of your worries. Best of luck!

Both my girls turned breech about 30 weeks and had to be flipped by the doctor for vaginal deliveries. The doctor flipped them at 38 weeks.
My middle child was delivered about two weeks later after I went into labor on my own. The third child was flipped at 38 weeks and induced a week later(because of my AMA-I was 42 at the time) but never came. She was induced a second time a week later and finally came after the doctor broke my water-that child has been stubborn since BEFORE she was born!
As to just how accurate the Ultrasounds are, well.... My doctor told me he thought my middle child would be small, maybe 6 pounds judging from the US when he flipped her. She was born less than two weeks later at 8lbs 9 oz.
And with the third, the doctor did not even realize that there was a second placenta in with the baby from the US when he flipped her. I had twins and miscarried one early on, but because I kept thinking I wasn't pregnant because I was spotting-well, I never even got to the doctor until I was 14 weeks along. So, Ultrasounds do NOT show everything. Once the baby is big enough to look like a baby, it is harder for them to judge a lot of things.
Good luck.

I'm going to agree with these other wise ladies. :) (1) Ultrasounds are notoriously inexact and if the dr isn't worried, I would try not to worry either. (2) spinningbabies.com is great for babies in breech position. I tried several of their techniques and baby did turn. Again, maybe coincidence?? Also, I got a couple of chiropractic adjustments which may have helped. (Dr. Shane Parker is excellent with pregnant women.) Good luck! :)

You feel her wiggle all over but just might happen to be in the same position when you had the ultrasound. The way you sit, lie and sleep might have something to do with what position she naturally feels comfy in. Try changing the positions a bit and see what happens. My 2nd was breech until the week before her birth and turned while in the Drs office with no help from anyone. She flipped right around and darn near knocked me off the exam table.

That baby is probably doing summersaults, and just happens to be in the same general position during both views. As for not turning, My 1st didn't turn until that last week.

My lil gal was breech this was found at her 20 week US,I had to have several US's to measure her & look at her position she moved non stop kicking swirling but ended up breech in the same position till I was 37 weeks she finally turned down & was able to have a normal vag delivery.I was told that she was measuring smaller in weight than what it should be I never gained a pound with her I lost weight I really wasn't concerned she was born over 7 lbs. that is smaller than my others not a big deal she was heatlhy,& full term.I would just go with the referral if you don't want to0 that is your choiceMy Ob tried to get me to schedule a c-section or to try to turn her I refused I did go to spinningbabies.com & did use their suggestions after a week of doing them she turned herself did it help I think it did or coinencidence, you still have time for baby to turn on her own don't let the stress of baby being breech worry you yet

Yes, yes and yes! Both of mine were breech and stayed breech (neither one moved around much, just kicks in the bladder and what-not). :) My second had a different shaped head (due to being breech) but she has a beautifully shaped head now! I also completely agree that genetics is a huge factor. Our friend's child had to have an MRI because her head was abnormally large at birth and stayed that way. She is 6 now and still has a big head but she is 100% healthy. ....and I wouldn't ever take a look at her and think she has a big head (it's not obvious, he parents just tell us that). She looks great to me. Another friend's child has a long and skinny head/face. Supposedly she looks like her dad. Again, she's completely beautiful. I wouldn't worry about it unless some other risk factor has come up. I don't think your doctor is just telling you this so you won't worry. I really do believe that you shouldn't worry about this one.

I will just be one more saying my first baby did not turn until 38 wks ;) I had a vaginal delivery and all went fine. As far as the head measurement, ultrasound is so inexact as the baby gets larger so I think all is well. I had a friend who was told her baby had a dent in his head if you can believe that! He is five, in kindergarten and dent free ;) Congrats, hope she turns for you soon!

my baby was breech until the last couple weeks. I was told by many of my mommy friends that their babies turned during labor! However, if your baby is still breech at 37 weeks, consult a midwife who is skilled at turning babies if at all possible. Doctors can also do this, but I've just heard better outcomes from my friends who used midwifes. Good luck!
