Ask for an A1C blood test it will give her blood sugar level for the past 3 months much better than a reg. glucose test. My son had the same symptoms and had all the test no diabetes and it leveled out after a few months.
PREVIOUS QUESTION: I have a 2 year old daughter (28 months old to be exact) and she has a weight problem. She eats constantly. She acts like she never gets full but yet her belly will be at the point of busting. She drinks constantly and its the same deal. Acts like she wants more and more but has clearly drank tons. Everytime they weigh her at the doctor she has put on pounds. The issue is how she looks. Her arms are bones, her legs are bones, you can see her ribs and backbone and she is just small. Ive had some say she is going to be petite and that its normal but it just seems odd to me. She has a doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon to have blood work done because some have told me she may be a diabetic. It does run in my family and we took her to the ER saturday for a ear infection and they said her sugar was really high. Anyone else having this issue or know anyone who has?
Well we took her to the doctor. They did some blood work and turns out she is not a diabetic. She had a ear infection and the doctor thinks that is why she lost weight. She took down her height and weight and said she is going to talk to a pediatric doctor and if he thinks we need to have her tested further she will let us know. It has been 2 days since then and still no word from her. I plan on calling tomorrow though just to make sure we didnt miss the call.

o
diabetes was my very first thought. I think you're on the right track.
Get her glucose checked. If that isn't the culprit you might have something more exotic.
Check if she has a food allergy. My cousin looked as you described and it turned out he was allergic to gluten a friend of mine looked like that too and turns out she was allergic to corn (no more high fructose corn syrup for her!). Now a days though it could be corn, gluten or any number of things.
You might want to find a very good pediatric endocrinologist . . . (diabetes possibility).
I also agree with the possible food intolerance issue.
Good luck.
Well her size doesn't sound like the concern. My almost 3yr old daughter is super petite, and you can see her bones too (even though she eats more than her 6yr old bother!). What doesn't sound quite right is that she drinks and drinks and doesn't seem satisfied - definitely get her checked for diabetes.
Hi honey,
Something you might want to check into is having a fecal sample checked for parasites. The symptoms you mention fit the problem very well. If you are uncomfortable asking your pediatrician, you can always take a sample to a vet and tell them it's a puppy....yes, I know it's a little weird. But my baby had a similiar problem years ago, and that's what I did....I found out he actually had Giardia. Sounds strange, but it turned out he had gotten it from me, though I never knew I had it...and he was just getting sicker and sicker. He kept nursing and nursing, but losing weight.
Best wishes and blessings
Have the doctors run tests for Type 1 Diabetes. My daughter was diagnosed at 19 months and had exactly the same symptoms.
I am shocked that they didn't run the test in the ER! What is wrong with some doctors?
I hope she's okay. Keep us posted!
The 3 main symptoms of diabetes are 1) excessive thirst, 2) excessive hunger, 3) excessive peeing. I think sometimes people will also have breath and urine that smells sweet. A friend whose 7 year-old was diagnosed also told me that his personality changed and improved dramatically once he was treated for the diabetes. Best of luck at the Dr.!!!
