2 Weeks Late and Concerned

My periods are usually pretty regular by this month I am 2 weeks late. I had my tubes tied 4 years ago and my husband had a vascetomy around the same time. So I should be accident proof. I haven't been under anymore stress than when my husband was deployed, actually less. I have been working out a lot more though. At least 5 days a week, 45 minutes of cardio and every other day I do weight training. Could my body just be trying to get use to my work out routine. I took a pregnancy test a few days ago and it came back negative. I am not sure what could be going on. I could use some advice. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I went to the doctor's office and they did a blood test and it came out negative. I am so relieved. We love and adore our kids but neither one of us have any interest any having anymore. I guess I need to wait this out. If I don't start by April 1 then I will make a doctor's appt. I am just dreading when I do start my period because I know it will be extremely heavy and painful. Thanks for all your help and comments.

Could easily be exercising. How old are you? Could you be going through early menopause? My mom's period became irregular for a few years before menopause came on in full.

Exercise can alter your cycle, as it did to mine. But, you may also want to double check with a doctor. It might be something else, like other posters mentioned. Never hurts to ask a professional!

Good Luck!

My period is very regular - we were actually trying to get pregnant so when I was 6 days late, I was sure I was. Well, I had changed my workout a bit while training for a half marathon, so I'm guessing that just threw things off. I got my period, the day of my half! LOL!! Now things are back to normal. So, yes, I've heard that this can happen. Two weeks is a bit long though, maybe give it one more at the most then call your Dr. if it still hasn't arrived.

Nothing is 100% foolproof. Have you taken a home pregnancy test? That is the first thing I would do, just to rule it out.

You could have Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome. I had it but I also has about half of the other symptoms on the list. Google and read about it. Your doctors will tell you that it is not the cause but my problem was so bad I had to have my tubes reversed and put back together. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Yes, working out and lowering body fat can delay periods. You didn't mention how old you are, but it could be related to pre-menopause. Some people get it very early in their 40's. I would discuss it with your Gynocologist to rule out any problems/illnesses etc.

Hi there! How old are you? Does early menopause run in your family? This was the first thing that popped in my head - only b/c my M. started going through it at age 39 and she thought it couldn't possibly be menopause b/c she was so young, and it was. So, just a thought. If somehow you do happen to be pregnant then I would definitely say that it was meant to be! I think the percentage chance for that would have to be like 0.03 or something :)

Not to scare you but no one is full proof if it's the Lord's will. I myself was in the same situation except I was divorced. I did not know I was pregnant until I was almost six months. I was having irregular cycles. I took over the counter test but it was blood test that prooved I was positive. If it's the Lord's will then we have to accept it.
It could also be stress. I am not married to a military man but just having 4 of my children in the military is stressful, let alone being the spouse. I always encourage my kids spouse to pray and have faith and ask for strength as well as comfort.
If you think you might be then just get seen by your OBGYN. It would not hurt, if anything it might eaze your mind.
Good luck. Take care.

I can pretty much guarantee you this is your increase in exercise. Your period will come to some degree at some point. Don't worry, your not pregnant. Am I a doctor, nope but I am just talking to you as I would my best friend. When you increase your exercise as much as you have you could even completely miss your period all together. The more you keep up the exercise the more regular your period will get, that could mean hardly one at all too...but who is really opposed to that? :) This very thing has happend to me as well as my sister and a number of my friends.
Now if you start experiencing any other symptoms of pregnancy or of just feeling something is wrong then of course go see your doctor to make sure everything is ok. Even the least expensive prego tests are sensitive enough to sense that hormone way before two weeks late so I think you are in the clear. :) Enjoy the days with not having to deal with a period ;)
AND Good for you for getting in the gym and taking care of YOU! Keep it up!!! I am just starting the same thing :) It feels good :)

The exact same thing happened to me back in 2001. My workouts were at an all time high. I was spending 3 hours in the gym working out 5 days a week. I menstruation seemed to had completely stopped. I lost a lot of weight and perhaps put my body in shock. I felt fine with the exeption that I felt cold all of the time, like a person who was has anemia or iron poor blood. When I slowed down my workouts my period came back. It had been 3 weeks late and I knew for sure that I was not pregnant all along. I think the combonation of mental and physical stress plays a key roll in our body's ability to work properly.

I don't need your age, so don't take this the wrong way, but could you be starting menopause?

hi N.!

I started working out intensely about 3 years ago and it changed my cycle, but for the better. A lot will depend on you being overweight, underweight or at normal weight. When did you start working out? If you have been doing this for a while then you should be normalized again, however if it's something new... say within the last month then give it some time.
One thing that I would like to point out is that it is STILL possible to get pregnant after having your tubes tied. It's typically at the 5 year mark so you will want to have your tubes tested by a doctor to make sure. Stranger than fiction things have happened as well with vasectomies so like one of the other moms said... nothing is fool proof unless you have it all yanked out (which as a holistic practitioner) I do NOT recommend you doing.
