L.C. asks from Edmond, OK

My son is turning 1 in September and I have no idea where to have his birthday party at. We have too many guests to have it at our house and I don't want to have it at one of those expensive birthday places. I thought about maybe having it at a park but I don't really know of any parks in my area. I live by memorial and may in OKC. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions that you could give me. Thanks!

What can I do next?

If you don't mind a small drive into North Edmond and want a great view J.L. Mitch Park on 1501 W. Covell is great. It will have something for everyone. Bike/walking trails, toddler play ground and bigger kids playground, skateboard/bike park (just follow the trail there)and fishing (we haven't tried that yet). There are covered pavillions with tables and grills. Some pavillions are close the bathrooms while the others have porta-potties nearby. As suggested, Hafer Park on 9th & Bryant in Edmond is great, too.

There is a park at May & Hefner (in The Village - I can't remember the name of the park??) that has a covered and locked area with a grill and picnic tables that you can reserve and use for FREE. Go to The Village City Hall/Police Department and just check the calendar and see if the date and time frame you want is available and they will reserve it for you. You go a few hours before your scheduled time and pick up the key then you have to return it by a certain time. I had a party there and it was great and FREE.

Hi L.,
You are close enough to Stars & Stripes park at Lake Hefner to have it there, and they have playground equipment, picnic tables, etc. there. It's really nice and also has (I THINK) grills there to use. Close enough to see the lake, but not right at the water's edge. There is another smaller park on Hefner on the north side of the road east of MacArthur. You can see it, just right off the road--Pat something or another park, can't remember the name of it. There is also a huge park east of Western and north of 44th in a residential area, but can't remember the name of it either--they have a basketball court and such there. Wish I could be of more help, but Stars & Stripes would probably be your best bet.

I'm not sure where all your relatives live but I know the Warr Acres Senior Center on 42nd & Ann Arbor rents their facility out. They have a small playground too. I know there is a nice park just south of 36th on Geraldine as well. I am not familiar with parks in the far north OKC as well as mid NW OKC. Lake Hefner could be a good area as well, there are several places around the lake you could have a party. The senior center has one samll room that rents for $7.50 and a big room that rents for $15.00 per hour if they have not raised the rates recently but even if they have they are very reasonable and it is indoors. There is a $75 deposit that is totally refunded as long as you leave the facility in the condition it was in. The caretaker meets you there for you to set up everything, but he leaves and comes back when you are finished. Hope this helps some. C. F.

Not sure of any large parks over in that area but Hafer Park in Edmond (just south of 2nd on Bryant) is where I love to have em for my girls. Its not too far away from you, and they have a great set of pavilions, pond, play areas etc. There's lots of trees so its stays relatively cool, even in summer. My daughter turns 1 in September as well although I'm not sure yet what we are going to do for her party. There is the Stars and Stripes Park at Lake Hefner. They have pavillions and playgrounds. There is also a park by the Dog Park that is on Grand Blvd. And there is a small park on Hefner Rd just west of Meridian. Hope this helps!
