Hi Mommies!
Our son's 1st Birthday is coming up in a few months and I want to make sure we're prepared. Even thought I'm an only child, I have a HUGE family - and we'll have them + my husband's family + quite a few friends all in attendance for the party.

My question is... does anyone have any FUN suggestions on party favors? I want the party theme to be monkeys... We're probably going to have a stand-up monkey so everyone can stand behind it to have their picture taken - and it will be like their head on a monkey body... but I wanted to do some sort of fun party favor for at least the kids.

Any ideas? Are there any places we could check out that would have monkey-themed party supplies (the less expensive the better, lol!)

Thank you all so much :)

What can I do next?

party city, oriental trading and birthday express all have monkey themed stuff. it's very popular. I actually had a monkey/justin beiber theme for my daughter. I had taffy's made that were monkeys that said my daughter is bananas for beiber.

I wanted my son's first birthday to be monkey as well (because that's what we call him) but it ended up being a zoo theme. I don't have any cute favor ideas, but if you want to make super easy and very cute monkey cake go to www.marthastweart.com and type "monkey cake" in the search area.
Happy birthday to your little monkey!

Why do favors at all, especially if it's something inexpensive? I seem to be in the minority in this view, but I'm not a fan of all the cheap toys that seem to come home from every party these days. The stuff either goes straight to the trash or ends up in the bottom of the toy box until it goes in the trash. We were at one party where the kids got nice (but too expensive) favors that they still play with, and I do like the idea of doing a craft that they bring home. However, I'm not sure what lesson all of this teaches our kids - that they should expect a handout wherever they go, that giving a gift should be reciprocated, that trinkets make life more fun? I don't mean this to sound like a lecture, just an alternate viewpoint from what seems to be the popular thinking... feel free to tell me to keep my old-fashioned trap shut ;)

How about making chocolate covered bananas. They would be easy and inexpensive to do. You could bag each one in a clear favor bag and tie off with a yellow ribbon. Have a great Birthday!

I think a monkey party is so cute. This is the theme that my sister is hoping to do for my nephew when he turns one. I’ve already been doing some research for his party, so here’s some of what I’ve found.

Once you find a particular style of paper products that you like do a search and shop around to make sure you get these at the best price. (Don’t forget to check shipping. Often a website looks like something’s cheaper or the same price as another site, but the shipping may be more.) Another way to save some money is just to get the monkey dessert plates and a plain coordinating color for the dinner plates (or vice versa) since you can usually shop around for a better price on solid colored plates.

I like the look of the “Mod Monkey” supplies and the colors.

Here’s what came up on Oriental Trading Company doing a “monkey” search:
(I just browsed real quick, but didn’t see much that I was crazy about)

This next website has thousands of great ideas for birthday parties. Unfortunately, there are no pictures, just descriptions of parties. If you have the time and patience to browse, you can usually find a couple of great ideas from clever ways to word invitations, to décor, food, and games. That’ll probably be where you’ll find your idea for favors. (I haven’t read through any of them personally yet). If you’re short on time try just reading the ones that say “Winner”, “Runner Up” or “Special/Honorable Mention”. They didn’t have a page just for monkeys, but I’ve included the pages for monkey-related themes (Curious George, Jungle, and Zoo).

I’m sure that there’s a lot more out there, but this is what I’ve found so far that I’ve liked. Good thing my nephew’s only 3 months old and we have plenty of time to plan!

Hope this was helpful…come back and let us know what you did!

What about that game "barrel of monkeys"...I have seen them sold at Target, the "Barrels" come in either red or blue...that would be cute and it is a fun game for the kids and parents to play with?

Check out orientaltrading.com they have tons of party decorations and favors very cheap. Also you mentioned the pictures. You can possibly give those as favors for the kids too if you found an inexpensive frame and were able to either print the photos that day or use an instant camera. Sounds like a great and very fun party theme!!

Check Orientaltrading.com They have tons of party supplies and monkey-themed decorations! I ordered a lot of cute stuff from them when I had my daughter's ladybug-themed 1st b-day party. Also if you sign up for their email list they send you coupons and free shipping offers. Hope this helps!
