18 Month Old Not Climbing Much

My 18 month old daughter does not climb but she loves scribbling.
If she finds crayon ask for the paper and keep on scribbling.
She is also social, active and very much imitating. And also repeats almost everything. My only concern is not climbs much I have to tell her to do that. She asks my help all the time to do it. One more thing she has bow legs
Is it because of that? Can anyone please answer my concern.

Hi R..........if you would like I would love to come to your home/park/sitter and take a look (free) at your daughter and see if there is a problem. Some children just need professional encouragement b/c mom well is just mom.
Please let me know.

It's probably all within the normal realm but I agree that if she has bow legs, you should have her evaluated. Start with her pediatrician if you haven't already. My daughter climbed on stuff, but wasn't really a "climber". She was more interested in talking and playing than climbing and running. I think that if she's interested in drawing and such just encourage it but make sure you get to the park too and practice those gross motor skills too!

She would benefit from seeing an occupational or pediatric physical therapist. With her bow legs, there are activities and excersizes and even braces that can help her. Have you spoken to her pediatrician about it? Every child develops at their own pace, but an evaluation is always worth it if you have worries of a development delay ,especially since she has the physical set back.

ECI offers free evaluations and therapy, go here for details:

My daughter had bow legs and didn't climb much. I think it was unrelated. Her legs have since straightened out. Slight curving in the legs is normal - ask her pediatrician. Don't freak out yet!

my son wasnt much of a climber. i hear moms on here talking about "so-and-so climbed out of his crib, we can't get him to stop!" or "my 18 month old climbs all over the furniture and i have 2 other kids so i can't keep an eye on him, help!" and i have no idea what they're talking about lol.

assuming your pediatrician is aware of the bow legs and you're on top of that, i don't see a need to worry. some kids aren't as adventurous...mine never was. also, kids learn things at different ages. my son was an early walker (9 months) and some things he just didn't have time for during that period. then once he got walking down, he started doing other things more. you mention she loves scribbling, is social, etc...i am sure that she is fine. don't "tell" her to climb. kids do what they are comfortable with. just like if you are at a playground, don't put her on things, if she's not climbing on them, it's because she's not ready. she will do it when she is coordinated enough to do it safely. until then it's actually more dangerous to push her if she's not ready.
